United in this Summer transfer window

Aside from the usual problem of still not sorting out our midfield! Remember last year we got so desperate in midfield we got Scholes back who was great for half a season and it may be coincidental that is also the period RVP scored the most goals!

Oh and actually what is sound about that:

Garay, a solid option, but we already have Ferdinand, Vidic, Jones, Smalling, Evans, thus hardly a priority.

Baines, again a solid option, but we already have Evra, Fabio and Buttner

Varela, a promising youngster at RB, but we already have a young and fantastic Rafael with Smalling, Jones, Fabio and Valencia all capable of adequately covering. Still makes sense as a natural back-up, but hardly pressing.

So all in all not that sound!!
Lawlz.

His post seems pretty sensible to me. Garay would make no sense at all. The others are decent transfers - Baines would let us ease Fabio in more gently than we might otherwise have had to, and strengthen our resources in that position. Varela is a good 'one for the future' purchase. But neither transfer would solve the main shortfalls in our squad, namely back-up for Carrick and someone better to play alongside him.

Are you sure? I'd love us to sign three defenders to compliment our six other class defenders this transfer window.

Can someone pls send an email to the club telling them the transfer window is open already. White text.

Nah, no use. Moyes can't handle his Blackberry so it won't get read.

It's also the reason why the following e-mail hasn't been read by Moyes:

Hi David!

Thank you for your offer.
I would much like to play for your team. United is the best.

Can I meet you at the Burger King in Manchester Piccadilly to sign the contract tomorrow? I'll even bring my dad Mazinho.

Pleased to answer you
Thiago

xx

PS: Please sell Anderson and retire Fletcher.

Seven, and I'm confident Fabio will make it eight in a season or so. Don't get me wrong, strengthening strong positions is all well and good, but maybe strengthening the weak ones first makes more sense?

The way I see it, the only 'big-name' player we could be after is Thiago (which I believe we all agree is a value signing at 18mil) with a bunch of fringe players funding the purchase (Ashley and Chris).

Won't be surprised to see the Feyenoord duo De Vrij and Martins Indi ending up in the Premiership. Question is who will show up with the fattest cheque. Hope its us.

I don't see why we need to sell players in order to buy Thiago at that price.

Heard it from a friend of mine, in the yachting business, that the Glazers are looking into buying a private boat for the World Cup in Brazil next year.
Gotta feed the kids.

Will make it easier to kidnap transfer targets directly from the tournament I guess...

Given how secretive we always are about deals, I wouldn't be surprised if we make one of those signings that comes out of nowhere. Like Nani+Anderson, Owen, or Hernandez.

Looks like we could lose the possibility of signing either Strootman or Thiago in the coming days with the former heavily linked to Roma and the latter to Bayern. Where do you think we go from here, should this situation materialise? Back to Fellaini? :nervous:

Fellaini is actually a decent punt now Thiago has gone from us. I've never seen Strootman play so am not that bothered over him, I think Fellaini's a pretty good player and would improve our team, so wouldn't be too concerned if we bought him. My worry is I'm not sure he is technically good enough to play next to Carrick. If Vidal is available... then I'd be delighted to end up with him and Fellaini as our midfield purchases this summer.

Just doesn't work for me, sorry.

Moyes will only sign someone he reckons is an upgrade on what we have. As we have problems with our midfield I will hold my breathe for Leon Osman signing.

Our activity or lack of activity in this transfer market is extremely poor by the club. Other teams are strengthening around us, if we do not strengthen the midfield then we will be left behind IMHO.

Do we really want Thiago? We havent even made a bid, and every newspaper and media outlet now look stupid for saying he is OT bound.
Our only target so far has been Baines and it wouldnt surprise me if we'd put all our eggs in one basket and tried to get Ronnie back which has now failed.

We need a Gundogan, Modric, Bale- proven quality players who will help

Barry, varela, baines would make a good summer. Our kind of summer.

This is the problem when you have a manager, new to this level and a chief executive new to this level. Pity David Gill hadn't stayed on for a year while Moyes settled in. They need to make a big signing to help Moyes or the media are going to say he can't attract the big names.

We've pissed around with every deal we've made for as long as I can remeber.

I wonder if some of it is Moyes only replacing players that want to leave because he doesn't want to lose the dressing room by replacing a popular player, even if in doing so he would improve the team.

Like I said weak as piss negotiators we only get decent players when no one else is in for them. Or if Fergie does it on the sly (RVP)

The RVP saga went on for ages, he said he wanted to leave and we spent all summer dicking around pretending not to be interested and then Fergie goes on about how desperatly we wanted him.

I love the way you muppets act like you actually have the first clue as to what the club are actually doing.

Let's see if ANY efforts materialise in a decent player coming in. It's just a total pisser when there haven't been any important transfers yet, because with the relative league failures of City and Chelsea last season, and new managers incoming for these clubs, it was obvious that United would have to strengthen central midfield with at the very least one player - to sustain competitiveness.

It's a month from kick-off, and we haven't signed anyone (ignore Varela) and we haven't sold anyone.

It's a total fecking shambles.

 Yeah we should use some guns and knives to get players to sign up on the contract.

I predict no signings of real note.

Zaha.

The very irrational side of me when reading posts like that almost wants United not to sign anyone, just to see if fans like that will proceed to whine or season or go root for someone else.

If we sign a top class central midfielder, I don't care if there are no more signings.

In terms of selling, I am simply highlighting that receiving cash for Nani and Anderson (no longer important players for me) would contribute to buying an expensive player.

Save posts like that for after the window closes. As you rightly noted there's still a month to kick-off

This has been a pretty disastrous summer so far, and the only way it could get worse is if Rooney were to leave. I'm fully behind Moyes and all, but we really need to strengthen if we want to win the title and have any chance in the Champions league because we are way behind the top teams in europe with the midfield we have.

So far this summer we've lost Sir Alex, a lot of backroom staff, Scholes has retired, Rooney is unhappy, Nani is unhappy, most of our key players are into their 30's now and surely don't have too much time left while our key rivals in Chelsea and City have both strengthened by getting arguably better managers (certainly bigger names, better achievements) and both strengthening their squads, and in City's case, the first team. Lets hope we make full use of the time that's left before the season starts and Moyes doesn't settle for our squad.

Still stand by the fact we should have gone for Dembele when he was available, very good player.

Disappointment, heartbreak, rejection, dejection, depression. It's a disaster, the worst couple of months to ever happen anywhere in the world ever.

I reckon we just pack it all in and go watch the cricket. Ashescafe.net, for the win.
