United in this Summer transfer window

:(

I guess that clears the way for Baines then. Not a bad option, but I'll miss Paddy.

Well it all officially kicks off today.Let's see what it brings.

Garay, Fellaini, Baines and that Inter defender Rao-something. We would be very strong.

I still don't see the need for Garay. We are well stocked in central defence.

Consistent injuries in that area over the previous two seasons, Vidic and Rio cannot play every game, Jones and Smalling still lacking experience and particularly in Smalling's case....consistent form. I expect Rio and Vidic will depart the club in the next 2-3 years and getting Garay in now allows time to adjust to the Premier League and become accustomed to his teammates.

Makes sense when you actually think about it. We don't ever want to be in another situation whereby we have to keep playing our best midfielder in central defence.

So the solution to them lacking experience is to bring in someone to take away games from them instead of playing them? So that by the time Rio and Vidic are gone we wouldn't need Garay and could instead be blooding a youngster or bring in an experienced head on the cheap for cover.

Why would Garay take games away from them? If they are good enough and bang in form they will be played simple as....and they will get chances. Garay is not Thiago Silva, he's not going to be a shoe-in. The fact is bar Evans the rest of our central defensive options over the past two seasons have succumbed to various injuries (some long-term) and loss of form. This has resulted in our best midfielder needing to step in and cover when he should be pulling the strings in our engine room.

By the time Rio and Vidic depart Garay would hopefully be a cultured member of the squad and putting pressure on Evans, Smalling and Jones to play their best week-in week-out. Evans has risen to that challenge when Jones and Smalling arrived, they must now do the same. Competition should breed excellence and bring out the best in our younger players.

Garay will too much competition and a useless signing unless one of the current CB's is leaving. There is no way we could provide enough games for the six of them. It will definitely hamper the growth of the young CB's. The ideal situation is that the young ones play in combination of either Ferdinand or Vidic to gain experience and learn.

I hope this is all fluff like the Gaitan signing.

we do NOT need a centre back.

We have 5 competing for 2 positions, and have youth teamers if things get ridiciulous.

Sign Thiago, Kondogbia and get Nani on a new contract. It may not be spectacular but I'd consider that decent summer business for us.

Friday will be the day.Probably announce Baines,or just say he's happy with the current squad.

It seems appropriate for this thread to slip down or maybe be changed to "United NOT in this summer transfer window"

Yes it might still be early, yes Moyes may only just be getting his feet under the desk, but I expect more from United. One youth right back is hardly progress. And all we really have that sounds firm is a £12m bid for Baines. The right sort of offer, but again hardly a priority or statement of intent.

The Thiago thread feels like it's doing the usual muppet summer routine of being heavily linked only to then feel like it is slipping away to obscurity. It's almost like we are not interested at all, but the papers are milking anything to get a sale. I suppose the up side is we were linked to RVP and got him last year, and what an amazing short term solution, but he is 30 next month.

Why can't we just invest and get Bale, a long term solution and at £50m would still be good value!

I find if you don't read the Thiago threads or twitter every few seconds it can help. People appear to be battering the refresh button expecting news when in reality Thiago is probably having lunch on the beach or getting the paper for his nan or something. Relax

I think we'll make 3 signings in total, including Varela and Baines, and the other will not be Thiago.

Varela, baines, garay. Sound bit of business.

Aside from the usual problem of still not sorting out our midfield! Remember last year we got so desperate in midfield we got Scholes back who was great for half a season and it may be coincidental that is also the period RVP scored the most goals!

Oh and actually what is sound about that:

Garay, a solid option, but we already have Ferdinand, Vidic, Jones, Smalling, Evans, thus hardly a priority.

Baines, again a solid option, but we already have Evra, Fabio and Buttner

Varela, a promising youngster at RB, but we already have a young and fantastic Rafael with Smalling, Jones, Fabio and Valencia all capable of adequately covering. Still makes sense as a natural back-up, but hardly pressing.

So all in all not that sound!!

I think Rooney will stay. We'll get rid of Anderson, Nani and Evra. And not in a racist way.
