United aiming to sell Harry Maguire next summer according to Jamie Jackson

He won’t be going anywhere, he is better than Lindelof - the issue comes when they play together as they both are slow - put Harry in another defensive combination and he will play better. The WC shows that he is a decent player but currently not as good as Licha and Varane. He will get plenty of chances this season. Having a better stronger CDM in front will also help him.

The next big issue for him will be when he loses the captaincy next season.

But who out of Lindelof and Maguire is more likely to accept a squad role?

Unfortunately, with Varane, Harry will still get plenty of games as Varane needs to be managed on the fitness side - as we have already seen he can only stay fit for so long and then picks up an injury so that’s why I think there will be lots of opportunities for HM.

I don't see Maguire staying at his age based on the hope Varane will get injured. He'll want to be first choice.

Lindelof I'd guess would be more likely to accept a squad role.

We need a top top replacement for him knowingly varane's injury record.

Hopeful we get the takeovers completely by then.

I've always thought Shaw would make a good to great CB with his physicality, pace and ball-playing ability.

Love to see him picked before Maguire although it remains to be seen if this is just because of the illness

Shaw is decent on the left side of a back 3. He'll get exposed eventually, playing in a back 2.

Why though? If Martinez can play CB, so can Shaw. He's never obviously played the role full-time but his attributes are there and I think EtH can mold him into one and I am usually against the idea of square pegs in round holes.

Could Woodward not sign him as a trainee PA, answering the phone making tea etc? After all, he was Ed’s record acquisition.

It certainly feels like more of a 'when' than 'if' now with Maguire. Ten Hag seems to view him exclusively as a right sided option now and behind Varane and Lindelof in the pecking order for that position too. I wonder if we'd be able to get even £30m for him in the summer, surely a team like Villa would take a chance on a deal like that.

OMG, so he is saying that there is a chance???

Seriously though, I don’t have anything against Maguire, never had. Always kind of likes his personality and especially background. But he is just the opposite of what we need from a CB in ETHs system. Think he should have been sold in the summer.

I feel far more confident with Lindelof starting instead of Maguire. It's rare that seeing a player coming on for a matter of minutes makes me feel nervous. That's how rubbish he's been.

Funny that captains of 2 camps we had in the dressing room is gone/will be gone by summer.
ETH deserves some credit.

Lindelof is equally bad, if not worse. Maguire is more in focus because he's the captain.

It’s a massive shame for him cause he and his family a massive Man Utd fans.
He’s simply not the right fit for a top club looking to play on the front foot. Better to sell for whatever we can get.

Regardless of what the harsh United fanbase says if we sell him for as little as 40m we've had our pants down again. Should easily be getting between 50-60m for him. Put him in the Spurs or Newcastle defence and he's instantly improved them (he's better than Dier or Schar)

Selling for 40 million in summer if lucky especially if he barely plays any meaningful games for rest of the season or sell him this Jan for 30 - 40 million with a half decent world.cup still fresh in the memory of other managers minds and allows us to fund a striker to potentially not only secure top 4 but push for a late a title challenge

Surely Varane needs a rest? Lindelof or Maguire next to Martinez, if he is returning, makes sense. Wonder who ten Hag prefers.

40m should break us even accounting-wise if his asset value depreciation is straight line (he'd have been here for half his 'main' contract).

That would be OK by me.

Selling for £35-40M to a Serie A club is the most likely outcome I would guess. Maguire will snub a team outside of top 6 in EPL but would accept an offer from a club with some pedigree in a weaker league.

Strongly disagree. We only signed him because he was English. Schar is a better player, both now and back when we signed Maguire.

I think we'd be lucky to recoup half of what we paid. I think we're looking at 25-30m.

ETH is just going to let those ‘amazing‘ World Cup performances sit for potential bidders, and tease with 10 minute United cameos to keep that value up :smirk:

I'd be fine having Maguire as third or fourth choice CB, but he probably wouldn't like that. From being the most expensive CB and captain of the team, to a bench player in a single season. In the right setup, he is still useful as he has shown for England.

A move would be best for both parties.

Yeah it would be probably better for both parties if he left at this point. My only regret is the fact Lindelof keeps weasling his way into the squad through 3 managers

In what way is he better than Schar? Dier I agree but Schar is clearly better right now

He’s worth a lot more than £20m. Only obstacle is his wages.
To who is he worth more than 20m? How many PL teams are going to take him in their starting 11? He's slow, has a strong lapse of judgment, bad concentration and is generally not a very good physical defender despite his size

Next summer there will only be 26m on the books.

Won’t be any negotiation skills involved with selling Maguire. We will put him up for sale, interested clubs will make their bids, the one willing to bid the most at the end of it will get him.

Problem is most teams are looking for ball playing CBs. And especially ball playing left footed CBs. In addition, you can only sell a player to a club he wants to go to. Some teams will show interest in Maguire. To get any more than 15-20m for him, we need to have two attractive teams interested in buying Maguire.
