UEFA Champions League 18/19 Matchday 5 fixtures (27th - 28th November 2018)

Can't see Liverpool winning 1-0. They've let in 7 in 5 in the CL, and the only clean sheet they've kept this season has been the home game against Red Star. They're going to need 3 or 4 to get through I think, which is a massive ask.

Liverpool beat Napoli 1-0 and they get through. But that is providing PSG win.

Here's another random head scratcher

If Liverpool beat Napoli 1-0 and PSG draw in Belgrade they will all be on 9 points.

PSG will have beaten Liverpool on away goals h2h, Napoli beaten PSG away goals h2h, yet Napoli and Liverpool will dead even. If you're taking h2h's before GD, surely Liverpool would go out in this scenario?

:lol: This group is mental

I can see them doing it tbh. Tottenham are pretty good in these big games and they've got Alli, Eriksen, Alderweireld and Vertonghen all back fit.

Yep, Spurs and Pochettino will believe they can do it, which is half the battle. So we just might go there and win … you never know.

A lot will depend on how much Barca want to put into the game.

I hope this happens

Yeah I think Liverpool will have to beat Napoli by 2 goals if PSG draw with Red Star, which would see Napoli go out on goal difference.

In your scenario, I think Napoli top the group with PSG second, and Liverpool third, because after they remove Liverpool from the equation, they go back to head to head for Napoli and PSG to separate them.

I think Liverpool would top the group as they'd have the most points in the mini league (W2 L2) whereas Napoli and PSG would have (W1 D2 L1) and it would go down to goals scored where PSG have scored 7 vs Napoli's 4 goals. So Napoli out as they would have the same GD as PSG in the mini league.

I believe Liverpool will win the group with 6 points against 5 for the other 2 when you deduct belgrade matches.

Maximum hope followed by maximum despair for Liverpool please. Whatever scenario will provide that.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the media darlings, Liverpool and Spurs, ended up in the Europa League and we have qualified with our dreary brand of football?

Especially when we were 'certain' to be in the Europa whilst they would 'piss' their groups

Yeah I think you're right actually.

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied in the order given to determine their rankings:
a. higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question;
b. superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question;
c. higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question;
d. higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question; e.

if, after having applied criteria a) to d), teams still have an equal ranking,
criteria a) to d) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams in question to determine their final rankings.

If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria f) to l) apply;
f. superior goal difference in all group matches;
g. higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
h. higher number of away goals scored in all group matches;
i. higher number of wins in all group matches;
j. higher number of away wins in all group matches;
k. lower disciplinary points total based only on yellow and red cards received in all group matches (red card = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion for two yellow cards in one match = 3 points);

l. higher club coefficient (see Annex D)

There's a good chance. Liverpool conceding seems like a given since their defence has been suspect for a while. Spurs have to match Inter's result at at the San Siro which will most likely be a win since Inter are strong at home.

Well, for all the snappy snapshot happy speed football by the other English teams,
Mou has got us to qualify.
Truly we are the Crazy Gang + Pulis + Moyes + Mou.

F it, if we go far and even win it in this atrocious style it'll be worth it to see all the ABU's even more pissed

Not really, considering the easy group you were drawn in.

Just a pity the Liverpool and Spurs games are at the same time next round.

I think Liverpool will sneak through but Spurs won't beat Barca.

Spurs might get lucky as Barca already secured the 1st spot and has nothing to play for.

Inter & Napoli are better than Valencia, it's not like all CL groups are equal.

Napoli especially I think would have qualified ahead of United. Inter aren't great but we made a total pigs ear of the first couple of games.

Still plenty of scenarios that will see us through and I'm confident we can blow Napoli away when we know the stakes are high. Not too worried yet, although going out in the group stages would be quite unacceptable no matter how difficult the group was.

Did anyone think this other than some of the more negative Man Utd fans? I certainly never thought Man utd would be finishing below 2nd in your group and I don't remember many people I know thinking differently.

Yes. The SSN pundits thought we'd struggle as Valencia had spent big

Youll find plenty of videos online of popular football channels saying this.

Alright - easier than Liverpool's or Spurs' group.
Mate, quit with the “Utd are shit, Spurs are amazing” thing, will you?

We know we’re shit. And most of us enjoy watching Spurs. I don’t mind Tottenham.

But you make it damn hard for any of us to want Spurs to do well with your snide posts all the fecking time, with you running here straight after Spurs winning a game.

Give it a rest ffs. I’ve only been here 5 minutes and already realised it’s you in conflict v all of RedCafe. Why do it to yourself? I’d personally rather spend my time at a Spurs forum than a Utd one, winding up the locals. It’s weird.

Anyway, well done tonight, a good win for Spurs.

All I've said is that United are in an easier group than Liverpool or Spurs. What the feck is "snide" about that? It's hardly an outrageous view.

So it seems to me that you are the one looking for conflict … as was @breakout67 when he posted a direct lie about what I'd said when the groups were drawn.

Liverpool may squeeze through. Barca could send out the B team having already progressed. Depending on their fixture pile up around that time. A full strength Barca no chance, a B team Spurs in with a shot.
