UEFA Champions League 18/19 Matchday 5 fixtures (27th - 28th November 2018)

It ended up being slightly more tense than needed but the result is well deserved. :drool:
Bring on Red Star next.

I can see them doing it tbh. Tottenham are pretty good in these big games and they've got Alli, Eriksen, Alderweireld and Vertonghen all back fit.
If it was in London they'd have a good chance, but away to Barca? Not for me. They'll battle well, might even get a draw, but I really can't see them beating Barca.

1-0 and their head to head is equal with Napoli as they lost 1-0 in Naples. Both of their GD would be 2, but Liverpool would have scored more goals
Yep.

That Red Star goal tonight to pull one back is actually a big goal.

Andf then you see Ancelotti took Insigne and Callejon off for Zielinski and Rog and you wonder whether Ancelotti knew the rules himself...

That games had probably the most dives per minute of any I've ever seen... neymar of course was the worst culprit but my God both front 3 hit the ground everytime someone as much as got breath on them (Firminio aside). Also said Firminio is having a poor season so far.

Think we all know, that Liverpool and PSG will go trough.

I'm at the stage of trying to work out how this Liverpool side are in 2nd place in the league.

They're nothing like the team they were last year going forward.

It's a bit like watching United from last year.

Napoli increibly stupid to stop playing in the second half, now a 1-0 Liverpool win is enough

No any Spurs win in Barcelona puts them through regardless of how many Inter beat PSG by because Tottenham have won the head to head with Inter on away goals.

  1. Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
  2. Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
  3. Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
  4. Away goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
Inter won 2-1, Spurs won 1-0, Inter scored more in head to head matches therefore they would qualify before the away goal rule kicks in.

Thats my understanding of it, I could be wrong. But yeah it doesnt matter how many goals each team will score.

Edit: I'm definitely wrong.

Pretty shocking refereeing in that PSG-Liverpool game tonight. At first he wasn't going to give a certain pen for Liverpool, bailed out by the assistant referee. Then he didn't give a pen on Neymar. And should have most definitely sent Veratti off where he deserved a 2nd yellow on at least two occasions. Standards..

He should have sent off Milner for sure.

Yes. So with 1:0 Liverpool goes out.

No they don't. 1-0 puts both on +2, with Liverpool having better goals for.

Liverpool need to win 1-0. If Napoli score Liverpool need to win by 2.

You’re definitely wrong. Inter and Spurs both scored 2.

The aggregrate score is 2-2, you must have struggled with maths as a kid :D

Wonderful result, screw Liverpool. A lot of development, but nothing to show for it, now on odds to go out of the Champions League, already out of the League Cup.

Verratti should have had a red card, won’t deny it. Mané dives for the penalty, which kind of cancels out the clear penalty he would have gotten if he played on. And this kind of game really shows Mané really isn’t all that, he thrives in this system, but very mediocre footballer compared to Neymar and co. Liverpool three losses away from home, only one goal (dodgy penalty).... good times.

Jürgen Klopp absolutely losing it with Norwegian pundit Fjørtoft, really embarrassing guy. Crying about Neymar, but not really having any point. Yes Neymar is a bitch (and a world class footballer), you don’t get a red card for reacting to fouls.

I think we're actually going out of CL this year. Pretty sad, but Klopp has to finally realize that the only advantage of Hendo-Milner-Gini MF is their workrate. And playing them in possession football with defense based on purely cutting lines does not work. Either everyone runs like crazy or we struggle badly. Keita has to be introduced like yesterday, him and Fabinho is the future of our MF if he wants to play what he tries to play this season.

Liverpool beat Napoli 1-0 and they get through. But that is providing PSG win.

Here's another random head scratcher

If Liverpool beat Napoli 1-0 and PSG draw in Belgrade they will all be on 9 points.

PSG will have beaten Liverpool on away goals h2h, Napoli beaten PSG away goals h2h, yet Napoli and Liverpool will dead even. If you're taking h2h's before GD, surely Liverpool would go out in this scenario?
