UCL Round of 16 - First Legs - Feb 18 - 26

Real don't even have to break sweat. Just too much quality for Schalke to live with.

I'd have liked to see you lot up against a side like this, tbh.

Another cracker from Benzema. I said Ronaldo would settle down once he scored.

schalke being tactically dominated from minute one anyways. the workrate of di maria and marcelo/modric has been terrific and crucial.

Ronaldo made a couple of decent runs and could have been put through before the goal. He ended up just drifting over there anyway and grabs an assist.

Schalke are a bad side, we dominated them in 2011, in their backyard and would have won about 10-0 if it wasn't for Neuer, then our b team beat them 4-1.

Did anyone else see the desire from Ronaldo to make that assist? He ran from inside his own half at full pace and from one side of the pitch to the other. Just brilliant.

Real will be able to rest players in the 2nd leg and concentrate on league matches.

Poor Ron must be feeling gutted he didn't join the Moyes devolution.

well i think he was originially making the run for the through ball, but the 1-2 play he made after posting the ball was brilliant and intelligent.

German league is beyond a joke really.

We will very likely get two teams into the Quarter Finals. Lets see how much the EPL manages to send ;)?
This Real side simply playing a fantastic match. Could become the most dangerous opponent for Bayern in the tournament, if they keep that level in the next round(s). Schalke with a shocking display, though.

I'm actually really glad we may not make the quarter finals now. We may as well bend over and let these teams have their way with us if we did get through; they're all on another planet to us right now. Save us the humiliation of going out to Olympiakos instead.

We actually played against them and we were going to knock them out until that cnut from Turkey stopped us.

The interesting thing will be seeing you lot against the likes of Madrid.

This time last year we were holding up pretty well against roughly the same Madrid side minus Bale...

I was talking about his desire to affect his teams attacking play. Not his precise intentions for how the attack would pan out. All in it is as good an assist as you will see.

Should have crossed it just now. Don't know what he was thinking. Keeps playing the difficult ball ffs!

to the renaissance of English football dominance thread!

It's really amazing look at this Real side always 4-5 players off the ball moving around, offering passing options making runs from deep and all that at a lightning quick pace. At this point we are so far away from the top teams in Europe it's not even funny anymore.

Stepovers, flicks, one twos, shots on goal. It will never catch on.

Schalke and Leverkusen have been woeful in the games I'v seen, not really a great reflection on the quality of the German league outside of the top two.

Drogba should still be at Chelsea. He will honestly still be as good as ever when he's about 40.

The 4321 has liberated Modric and (more surprisingly perhaps) Di Maria. Ancelotti's done a good job with them.

Surely you mean Ronnie - "Cross, cross, cross. RvP can easily outjump that 6'6" centre back and his pals."

0-5 Bale.
Oh, my.

5-0. poor schalke fans. their singing didn't hesitate for a note while bale scored.

I think i;d rather we didnt go through and won the league, theres no way we are getting past Real this year. Bayern and Barca maybe but this Real team look unstoppable.
