Is this in anyway accurate?

So many things funny about this.

EDIT: Someone embed this, not sure how to embed tweets.

EDIT2: nevermind, I'm an idiot.

Muller signed his most recent contract in December '12. Sincerely doubt he's on 38k

Irrelevant. Muller still gets paid less. Young should not even be paid half what Muller' weekly wage is.
You're making assumptions with highly speculative figures in order to exaggerate your point. Hardly irrelevant.

Yes.

Why in the name of feck are we paying Ashley Young that much? :(

Yes.

That's all after tax though, isn't it? But you're right in what you're saying, anyway.

I seriously doubt those numbers.

The only way I'd believe we are paying him that much (if that figure is true), is that we was competing with another big club, like City, who was prepared to pay big wages.
If not, then it really wouldn't make sense.

No idea how much he was on at Villa, but I bet they gave him a fair bit also

I got my calculations wrong:

Reus on £63,000 a week
Muller on £47,000 a week
Ashley Young is £120,000

So he earns more than these two combined. It hurts...

Would be a reasonably flagrant breach of employment law. Are your wages published online?

Which section is it breaching exactly? Are you saying everyone's wages are kept a secret and not publicized at all? Balderdash.

Wages for footballers are not published online.

So Rooney isn't really earning between £250,000-£300,000?

Well if your boss walked into the office and told everyone how much your salary was then yes that absolutely would be a breach of implied terms in your employment contract. Not to mention the data protection act issues.

At boardroom level, all salaries will be disclosed (listed company requirement for shareholders to approve the remuneration package). But there is a reason for that. Salaries are often published when it is in the public interest to do so e.g. MPs and also in bands for other professions but certainly not with individual names. e.g. the bbc - they say how many staff members get £1m+ but don't actually reveal their names. NHS etc.

Pretty simple answer to your question really; if you are an employee and paid a salary then does everyone in your office/workplace know how much you make p.a.? Unless you told them, clearly the answer is no. Exactly the same for Rooney; the law doesn't change if you make £10k or £10m.

I guess the papers are reasonably close to the value, i don't know. Take most things they say with a proverbial pinch. But to say you can find them all out online is clearly not the case, at least not with any degree of reliability/accuracy.

I've no idea and neither do you. Fact is his wages aren't published online.

So you're just going to ignore what every paper has reported just because it's a bit stupid to say the least that we're paying him that much? Sure they aren't officially stated he's earning so much, but all the reports definitely are close, they aren't just pulled out of their asses.

feck. If he doesn't leave in the summer It will be insane

Ashley Young is a disgrace and it was one of the worst decisions made by SAF to sign him and to give him such high wages.

however anyone who thinks Iniesta is on 115 k needs their heads checked. Maybe 115 after tax! The tax system is also different in Spain and as far as I know the reported wages are mostly in net.

And as far as Neymar is concerned, his parents and God knows who else already got a huge amount, everyone knows Neymar earns much more than a simle weekly salary.

Anyway, we don't even need to leave United to compare Young to others. If you believe various reports only RvP, Mata and Rooney earn more than him in our squad, while Fellaini has similar wages to Young. They are our worst two players but among the best paid.

Like feck Iniesta and Neymar earns that much only. I'm not believing that for a second.

Di Maria also signed a new contract recently.

Still doesn't make Young's wages worthwhile or justified though.

Bit harsh...

Rooney is paid £240k a week by the club. That's on the internet somewhere. The quoted £300k includes image rights.

Wayne Rooney’s bumper new five-and-a-half year deal at Manchester United was portrayed as an act of desperation. United, in a season spiraling disastrously, were simply throwing money at the problem; and wasting it by paying over the odds.

But the detail of the ground-breaking deal shows it is a far smarter agreement; there is reward and relatively no risk for United while, if it works, it is expected to be rolled out by other clubs for their star players.

Rooney’s new contract does not place him on a higher basic salary such as the £300,000-a-week that has been claimed. Indeed there is understood to actually be a small drop in the £240,000-a-week he was being paid – but there is limitless scope for future earnings if he and his adviser Paul Stretford tap into United’s commercial department.

That revolutionary part of the deal has still to be formalized and exists, at present, as an understanding between the two parties rather than something that has been contractually agreed. That in itself demonstrates the goodwill that now exists which is some turnaround from last year.

In essence it means that United, by agreeing the contract, have bought the sole mandate to conduct commercial deals for Rooney. The 28-year-old cannot now go off and negotiate his own deals. If, for example, a Japanese car company want to do a separate negotiation with Rooney then they will have to deal with United.

But neither would United force him to do anything he did not want to do and Rooney has been clear that he does not want to be over-stretched.

A priority for both club and player is actually to keep his workload down. He will not be jetting off to the Far East to make TV adverts. He will stay close to home.

In theory United could, therefore, do very little; they could even make no deals on Rooney’s behalf and fulfil their obligations.

But there is an incentive and a commitment to be relatively active – because the club gets a cut of the profits also and when it goes to talk to sponsors it can offer them not just their brand but their star player also.

There would appear to be minimal risk and a great deal of reward for United and for Rooney under the agreement which other clubs are sure to follow. Both player and club can make a lot of money.

Here we go. I contemplated posting it in the main thread, but it's a smart agreement.

Perhaps because the article doesn't go into much detail, but I don't understand what Rooney's camp get out of it? Did we pay for Rooney's image rights? Usually players want sole authority over that, yet we have gained more?
Be interesting to find out what clauses our players have in their contracts regarding champs league and pay cuts if dont get in

I think you're quoting after tax for Rues and everyone else. I am a 100% sure that Neymar is getting a whole lot more than £120k and so is Iniesta.
Would love to see your sources.

He's a disgrace because Sir Alex paid 18mil for him and gave him wages over 100k/week? What's he supposed to do, refuse a high pay?

I never said he is a disgrace BECAUSE SAF signed him. But he is a disgrace, full stop. A useless, diving, brainless footballer. He is also a complete pussy. Milner for all his lack of talent at least makes himself useful in one way or other, doesn't make the same mistakes time and time again, gets stuck in at least and doesn't just run around like a headless chicken, but has some kind of tactical awareness. Also has at least some decent to good performances. Young doesn't even do that.

He's just not good enough for us, it doesnt make him a disgrace. Stop going overboard.

Fergies mouthpiece with his view. This aint gonna end well...

I feel for him, he gets a lot of abuse on twitter.

? What does he mean by "ungrateful MUFC fans". What were they saying to him?
