At a club like ours with the number of games we play, he only has to be among the 2 best strikers to play maybe 40 games a season. Top 3 strikers to play 30 odd games and both assuming Moyes sees sense and moves to a 1 striker system without this Rooney at AM nonsense. So, there is still a great chance Welbeck can get plenty of games as striker here but with RVP and Rooney staying, its tough if we change our formation.

As I said, I can totally understand if he wants to move to further his career which is why am saying we should look to loan him out then rather than sell.

I disagree. Look at how many games he's played this season - about 37 I think, a good number of them not as a forward.

Rooney or RVP will play when fit. The signing of Mata means Rooney can ply his trade upfront without having to be a number 10. Januzaj will also get more games - either out wide (where Welbeck often ends up) or in the hole - again allowing Rooney to push forward. All that is before we add to the squad in the summer - possibly even a striker, but probably a wide player at least.

I don't see where he'll get 40 games. He'd be reliant on injuries - which I don't think any player would want to do.

If he does want to move on - then it is because he thinks he'll get a chance up front every week - not as a rotation player, or out wide, or because a player is injured.

If he moved permanently that club has invested substantial sums and is likely to rate him highly, as think he's going to be there long term.

I don't think things are going to change for him here, so why send him on loan? His contract will be running down and the club could lose out on a substantial fee.

This is like Sturridge all over again...

Not really. Other than that both are English.

Sturridge wasn't up against two genuinely world class forwards for a place. He'd be a regular for Chelsea now because he's much better than what they have. Welbeck isn't in that position.

A top club needs 3 strikers, I think he can be the 3rd. The reason I think a loan move makes sense if he wants to leave is because of the RVP injury situation. If it persists, Welbeck suddenly becomes 2nd choice end of next season which he'd be absolutely fine with imo.

Welbeck would be 1st choice if he started to convert the chances and half chances, unfortunately 2nd choice is what he's more suited to

Sturridge wasn't given a fair crack of the whip and believed he should be starting. I'd wager Welbeck thinks the same. Both are fantastic strikers, i have no doubt that if Welbeck was given a long run in our side as a CF (not a fecking winger) he'd be a success. So yes, same situation does apply, both will leave for first team starts and both will prove they're fantastic strikers. I imagine a number of clubs would be in for him if he did want to go. I could see him flourishing at Spurs.

I know this is hard to judge, but if anyone is going to discuss Welbeck the player - then can they take it to his thread?

It seems the discussion has gone away from the tweet now.

If Welbeck goes then I will be furious. He is a great player to have and I think should be starting games up top now. He is quick, skilful and has a good finish in him. Once he has a proper run of games he will cut out the rabbit in front of headlights thing he does from time to time as he'll be more confident.

Although Welbeck is overrated beyond any rational reason on here, I still do rate him and think he's a very good squad player. I doubt these stories are true but if he did want to leave, it would be a shame.

Racist.

And Blind. :D

 Even with how shit Moyes has been, selling everyone's number one son would probably turn all fans against Moyes.

It will be when he leaves and is played consistently as a striker and scores ~20 goals a season which I strongly believe he has the potential to.

I don't see why anyone thinks this wouldn't happen. That little spell he actually got to play as a striker he scored a bundle of goals.

They do though. It seems people only want to focus on the lack of goals he scores from the wing. It's odd. He's a striker who scores goals when he plays as a striker I just don't think some will see this until he's doing it for another team week in week out. I'll be gutted if we let him go.

I think we'll keep him.

The media work massively off predicting stories, to get a head over other sources, so that they can claim they were "first".

They know we'll be having a lot of changes after such a miserable season, so are just working through what seem valid scenarios.

How they think Smalling to Arsenal makes sense on any level I don't know. Welbeck leaving doesn't make sense either.

I saw that too. Ludicrous. And for £13m??

Welbeck is an OT crowd favourite, if Moyes even thinks to get rid off him or if Welbeck wants to leave because of Moyes, I hope the crowd boos Moyes until he is finally out of United!

If he wants to leave its probably because he wants to play more, which would be unlikely under any manager.

I believe that Welbeck and or his people have briefed the press on this. Being reported by newspapers I find more reliable than The Sun / Mirror such as The Guardian / BBC.

So is that now three of our four strikers who are not happy with current conditions?

Who'd have thought at the start of the season that Rooney by the end of the season would be the only striker certain to stay? He'll probably be spoiling for a move again within the next 18 months too. I love Danny, I hope that he stays but if he's briefing the press then the situation looks bad.

It's actually crazy, right? I remember when we were all thinking that there would be a continuity of the bad blood between Moyes and Rooney back in 2002-03.

I'd love to say that it's probably bollocks about Welbeck, but I'm not sure. One thing that worries me is that he seems to look up to Rio quite a bit and I expect that Rio will fill his head with all sorts of garbage as he seems to be undermining Moyes at the moment.

I expect that Arsenal will be all over it like a tramp on a bag of chips if it's true. He'd start every week there.

I'd be really disappointed in him if this is true. I understand Hernandez wanting to leave, he wants more games and to start somewhere, or rvp wanting champions league football. Welbeck though? He gets loads of games, has a big future here, has had a good season, and is home grown. Why the hell would he want to leave.

He's the only one I wouldn't care about leaving too.

He gets a lot of stick from United fans for being like "bambi" so it's understandable if he wants a change of scenery... I reckon Cleverley would be in a similar situation if he had interest from decent clubs.

I think our Danny is getting the ball rolling with a him or me style ultimatum.

When important first team player's start looking to move elsewhere the board will have to start looking at the manager.

We can't let talented, committed lads like Danny move on. I know people love the old "United way" sarcastic response but probably my favourite thing about being a United fan is seeing us bring through these young players.

:nervous: That's pretty worrying. Saying that Danny's played in some really big matches this season and also as alot have said already I don't think any of the big clubs anywhere would take him.

It's all a bit strange can only guess it's about money.

He's not a "David Moyes Player" and therefore has to be moved on.

Daniel Taylor is very reliable, he won't say something like that unless it's true. Moyes needs to go before he breaks up this squad.
