Welbeck fear factor .

Guardiola name checked Welbeck before the first game. He terrorized Madrid last season at the Bernabeu; and he obviously rattled Martinez and Boateng in the first leg. Not such a ridiculous claim.

Danny is probably the first name on the team sheet (for me) for this game. Always turns up for the big matches, unlike lil Wayne. His pace, close control and footwork is as good as anybody bar the Ronaldos and Messis of this world.

He can go up another couple of levels too, if he is given a regular position. On Wednesday we'll play a counter attacking game and his speed and hold up play will be essential to that. If Bayern can stifle Welbz, then that will probably nullify our threat.

And FFS, nice to see Moyes talking our players up for a change. Especially a young lad like Danny, who the fans are too quick to criticize.

Does he? Where was he for Chelsea and City this season, whilst Rooney was hiding? Bar Madrid and Bayern, which other games did he make the oppo shit their pants? I'm curious to know

Please don't make me back up my post with actual facts. It was my opinion, that should be good enough for you.

Well if I think that your opinion is incredibly off the mark then yeah I would like it, but if you are so assured of your position then who am I to question?

Welbeck turns up for big games unlike Rooney? I must have imagined all those big game goals Rooney has scored for us.

Apparently, we've been watching this Colombian right back called Santiago Arias again this weekend.

Never heard.

The player name is actually Santiago Arias. 22yr old Colombian Right back playing for PSV.

Watched a-few videos of him and I don't think he looks overly impressive. Seems to read the game well enough and get some good tackles in. Can't honestly say he looks too much better than Varela; from the limited available videos, anyway.

Another right back who's unproven. Unless he's an obvious diamond in the rough (which we probably would have heard about by now) what makes him a better bet than Varela next season?

22 games for PSV and 3 caps for Columbia...

I've no idea how much this guy would cost, but bringing in a cheapish back-up RB (or better yet - someone who can cover both full-back positions) might not be a bad idea. Rafael is injury-prone, Vermijl is off, Varela should be loaned out for the sake of his own development, Janko's not ready. The alternative is having Jones, Smalling and Valencia covering Rafael, which I suppose is viable though far from ideal.

What do you guys and jojojos reckon? Would it be worth investing.. say...5 million in a RB this summer?

Just give Varela a shot. He's got a lot of potential, and has always struck me as an actual defender, rather than a crappy winger taught to defend.

I wouldn't be against this move . From a squad perspective we are losing Vidic and Rio but it makes sense to replace them with one CB and a back up RB thus allowing Smalling and Jones to focus fully on growing as Centre Backs . If he is versatile (haven't watched him with interest) then great plus Rafael can play LB in emergency situations .

I'd be happy with giving Varela a shot as Rafael's back-up next season, but this Arias guy would probably be less than £8m or so, and at only 22 could be a good option. Heard good things of him (well I managed PSV on FM a few months ago and this guy was the bomb).

I don't see why not, when we imagine that most RB back-ups should only get 10-15 appearances, should help his progression nicely..

Here's what Diego actually said

"Like when Liverpool made him an offer. Of course, I told him he should join Manchester United.

Palmeri is an idiot.

Would never tire of punching that Palmeri's face.
Looks like it's already been punched in several times.

Arias was sold for 600k euros from Sporting to PSV. He came to us highly rated from Colombia but failed to impress and spent almost two seasons on the B team with sporadic cup appearences for Sporting. He is an attack minded full back with good technical ability and reasonable defensive capability. He was also a decent crosser. This is my conclusion from watching him in a less competitive enviroment of the B team in our Second league. The problem with Arias was that he was highly inconsistent. I remember watching him and saying "wow this guy deserves a chance instead of our starting full back Cedric" but when given a chance he would fail to impress and look completely out of depth.
I haven´t watched him at all at PSV so i can´t discard a possible evolution by the player. If he is being a standout player maybe he actually fulfilled his potencial. Sometimes players don´t impose themselves at certain clubs not because they don´t have quality but because they can´t adapt. This happened with Carvalho at Cercle Brugges and may have happened with Arias at Sporting.

Apparently we're scouting a 22 year old Italian goalkeeper, Francesco Bardi according to Fabrizio Romano. His agent confirmed that both us and Manchester City are interested.

Bardi, Perin, Leali and Scuffet are all italian Goalkeepers that are touted to make it at the highest level.

That just made me sound like Tancredi Palmeri didn't it?

I assume we're looking for a replacement for Lindegaard. A back-up to DDG.

Rightly or wrongly, I find it hard to give a shit about any links to a goalkeeper. Well done Dave.

Ditto. We should stick with what we've got until Buffon's regen shows up.
