Schweinsteiger would be a brilliant signing. He could sit in front of the back four and break up play. He also has a pass on him. Pair him with a box-to-box midfielder like Vidal or Strootman and we're good to go.

He can also play on the left if I'm not mistaken, he spent a fair bit of time out there earlier in his career. He'd be one piece of the puzzle but we need reinforcements there and badly.

@JanAageFjortoft: Just been in contact with Borussia Dortmund.
They tell me: Mats Hummels is NOT leaving this summer.

:(
If Fjortoft had it his way they'd build a wall around Germany and wouldn't let anybody leave.

Or maybe it's because all the players we've been linked with are very good ones which their respective clubs would be reluctant to sell.

The club is hardly going to be telling some Twitter obsessed ex Swindon no-mark their transfer dealings.

He probably won't go but Dortmund aren't going to say he's available.

Indeed.

He posts everything he hears on Twitter it seems. I suspect he's not high on the list of people to tell sensitive transfer info to.

He probably said the same thing about goetze.

So the only transfer stories you believe are ones that everyone confirms on the record is happening? So you never believe any then and are presumably constantly surprised when almost every deal happens?
No. Can you not see the difference between the average story in a tabloid and that of one in a broadsheet? The likes of Ducker and Ogden tend to explain the exact story behind their information whereas the average Twitter user/tabloid tends to make a statement based on nothing at all or something which they can't back up.

It shouldn't be unusual for someone to be less trustworthy of sources that are unreliable and print 10 stories a week.

I really hope this isn't true. You would have to question LVG's eye for a player if he decides he doesn't want Kroos.

True. Club should take polls on internet forums to decide whom should we buy and whom we should play rather than pay millions for someone to be manager and decide.

He had Kroos once and shunted him all over the place. No chance Kroos wanted to play for him again.

What rubbish. So when Sir Alex moves around a young Welbeck, its to aid his development but when Van Gaal puts a young Kroos out wide in some matches, Kroos is now supposed to never want to play for him again?

We can question alot about big Louis's managerial style......His eye for a player is certainly not one of them!!

Kroos is a no-brainer though. It's just a bit worrying if he passes up on the chance to sign him. I'm also not too keen on all the links to these young Dutch players. Only Strootman seems to be worth having a look at but we have been linked with 4 or 5 from the Dutch squad at this stage.

Jog on.

Hopefully we won't sign one of the best central midfielders in the world and play him at left wing.

Honestly thought we were going to sign a decent midfielder before the World Cup. I've got a feeling that we will mostly be buying (relatively) unknown, young players that van Gaal can mould into the team he wants.

If that is the case then we might as well save the money and promote our own young players.

Why would the club be feeding information to only Fjortoft! If he fancies himself as a bit of an ITK then that's fine, but he should in no uncertain terms be creating the illusion that some of the top European clubs are briefing him on every piece of transfer business! :wenger:

It's only a no-brainer if that's the type of player we're looking for. If Van Gaal wants Mata to play as the attacking point of a trio and prefers two solid all rounders behind him then Kroos might not be the type of player he wants for that system.

I mean seriously there's absolutely zero young Dutch player that I'd want United to sign. Now I'm no expert but I've seen a lot of Eredivisie football in the past couple of years. And none of them players have been impressive on a semi-consistent basis even if we factor in the lower quality of their league. I'd put Depay/ Wijnaldum at the head of the queue purely on the basis of potential but IMO they won't be a great improvement on what we currently have. Some of the others - Clasie, Blind, De Vrij/ BMI seem okay in isolated cases but if one watches them over an extended league season, I'd daresay Clasie will not be a great improvement on Cleverley. Blind would be okay but as a rotational/ squad player. And De Vrij/ BMI will be Vlaar/ Heitinga level players 3-4 seasons down the line. I mean if we look at their national team midfielders they have Leroy Fer who plays for Norwich and De Guzman who plays for Swansea. That's really indicative of their current dearth in quality TBF.

Again I won't be disingenuous and claim to be a great evaluator of talent but their current young generation really doesn't strike me as United calibre players. I'm sure someone more familiar with Dutch football like @Henrik Larsson or @Kevin will be able to shed some light on this matter.

Depay looks well talented

A mixture of both would be good (if we went that way)
van Gaal won't have much time to examine our youth teams closely enough to make an informed decision on them. I'd imagine he will be relying on second hand information which is never a good thing.
We will sign players, but I don't think it will be the players we are all expecting.

Or maybe Kroos will only be allowed to leave under freedom of contract.
United no longer looking at buying, as told it simply won't happen, so passed over to look at more attainable players.
Where did the we're no longer interested come from, no club statement nor quotes as far as I've seen. Yet fans take it all as gospel.

He will have an entire pre-season with them.

I don't buy the Cavani story at all. If Ed was so hard up for a marquee signing, he probably would've jumped at the chance to redeem himself with Fabregas.

Regarding Kroos, I think we offered a mind blowing amount that he was willing to take, but then LvG nixed the deal because he either didn't want him or didn't think he was worth what we offered.

We have to work within some sort of budget. If we give Kroos 250 000 and have to pay a transfer fee on top, it would take up a lot of our budget, likely leaving LvG with not enough to get what he feels he needs.

As I said, he won't have much time, an entire pre season or not.

An entire pre-season should be enough for a manager like Van Gaal to decide whether any of our young players are ready for first team action.

He just had Daniel Taylor on the show who obviously has better connections than Tancredi or indycunt, so that's a silly thing to say

And surely if Daniel Taylor had anything news/tweet worthy to say about United, then he would be telling us himself?

I agree, however is an entire pre season enough time to look at the young players, decide that they aren't good enough and get replacements in?
The last thing we want is another summer like last, we need the new players to have a pre season with the team.

Malachians stuck his neck out on the Moyes sacking a while before everyone else to be fair to him. May have been lucky I suppose, but he's not some anonymous twitter account ala indykaila.

Yeah that was really taking a gamble saying Moyes would be sacked. How does some lad in California know whats going on with Woodward and Van Gaal?

I doubt he'd get fergie on his show if he was just some random bullshitter, he definitely has contacts.
