I know he's on a big contract and all, but surely he wants first team football to cement his place for the WC in his home country?

I'm dubious as to why we're being so definitive publicly. Surely we'd at least want to show we were open if a club or an agent were to make a proposal or indicate that someone would be up for sale.

The sudden shift from "we'll try but it's not likely" to telling us that it's a virtual certainty we won't, seems odd

Could be a way of bargaining. If another club is holding out for a fee but want to sell a player then acting like you're about to walk away is a way of bringing them down. I think we're definitely done though.

I bet at some point this afternoon the training ground will look like an episode of Airwolf. Choppers flying in at all angles, people climbing up and down rope ladders and laughing maniacally because they (wrongly) believe that no one will ever catch them.

Deals don't happen in the space of an hour for the players we need.

We've got the wheels in motion for the players we have specified for the summer, nobody we want is available now. It's that simple.

People will be offering us hundreds of players today. Us saying we're done makes no difference, as if Kroos' agent, for example, suddenly gets the go ahead from Bayern he's not going to stop himself from calling because we said we're probably done. I don't think we're doing anything other than being honest. The players we want aren't available. Unless that changes we won't be getting anyone. Pretty straightforward, really.

I can feel a transfer in the air, like all Phil Collins and shit! I think that Moyes has something up his sleeve.

I'm happy we're not settling for midfield stopgaps who would be relatively easy to acquire but not of the top standard we need going forward.

Absolutely. No more deadwood and squad players. Shaft the deadwood out in the summer and get top players straight into the 11. Another average midfielder on a 4 year contract is the last thing we need.

Apparently there are ways of structuring such a partnership so it doesn't conflict with UEFA legislation. Unfortunately it seems City are being run by some pretty smart people.

That would be awesome for Boavista, to be fair. I think they really deserve a boost. They were unfairly relegated to the third tier by a League decision that was recently overturned by a superior court. Next season the Portuguese League will have to increase from 16 to 18 teams just to accommodate them. But they're not a top level team any more, in fact I doubt they have enough resources to avoid being relegated in the first season.

They are now suing the league for a huge compensation to all the damage the club has suffered, but looking at our judiciary system, this will take years to materialize. They were getting regular CL football at some point, have an excellent stadium, and lost everything.

Portuguese league is poor, and I'd welcome a strong Boavista again. We can't afford too many "Leeds" scenarios around here.

feck me, Gandalf is looking haggard.

Captain Picard looks exactly the same as always.

sir ian, sir ian, sir ian, WIZARD! YOU SHALL NOT PASS!! sir ian, sir ian.

You know it is a shit deadline day when the CAFtards in the twitter thread are debating who looks the oldest between Ian Mckellan and Patrik Stewart after someone posted a picture of them in American football shirts. Wrong sport - wrong conversation!

The initial post was a tweet. :p And they clearly said 'Football', whilst holding out a real football. :p:p

ITK's.

A Spanish account named Llourinho (which would be like Mourinho crying) made up a rumour about Chicharito being loaned to Valencia. He's a troll, quite a good one actually. He doesn't intend to "know", but to make the papers believe stories. All papers there are picking it up. Just giving you the heads up.

The tweet was about Valencia loaning Chicharito. It was deleted immediately, so I deleted the post in the hope that no one saw it. Silly me.
