Didn't his agent say he was leaving this summer ?

Yep, him leaving is old news. Just the destination that's new. Though I was hoping we'd get him to stay.

Rio, Vida and Evra all leaving together. Doesnt look good imo. Lots of experience all at once.

If Vidic is to leave then he should be left on the bench for the remainder of the season to cover injuries. We need to get Smalling and Jones some sustained play time there. Smalling particularly.

Depends on how our defence is performing.

Id say it depends more on injuries, if he is leaving then we have to look to the future and give them as much experience and
Familiarity as possible, get Evans playing alongside Jones or Smalling for the remainder of the season.
This season has been a write off, if we can and Vidic is leaving then we have to prepare for that the best we can.

If Vidic is going to Inter on a free then it says that the rest of the elite footballing world think that he is finished as well.

Good move for him. Past his best for us, and he might well get a better longer contract in Italy. We need to move on from Vidic and Rio, and sign a new defender or 2.

The season isnt a write off yet. We can still get the 4th spot so even if he's leaving, he should play if he's among the top 2 CBs.

Even if we have a chance of top 4, Vidić has barely played two or three games in a row, we need our future CBs to have familiarity and to build on what is going to be a rusty partnership.
Most of our success down the years has been with a solid back 4, especially in the CB position, we need to get that back ASAP, and by the looks of it Vidic isn't going to be here to be a part of it.

I agree with all of that. But the 4th spot and what comes with it is too important to drop him totally even if he does better than the rest.

Not at all. Bigger turnarounds have happened in the past. We need to massively improve but it isnt a lost cause.

With the football we play I can't see us doing a turnaround. Half a season of hoping that anything performance wise would improve and beeing dissapointed every time has taught me that I'm not going to hold much hopes for this season.

I understand that and I see where you're coming from but I just cant give up with only 7 points in it with 14 games to go. I know it hasnt really been the United of old this season but we still can.

Tell me a bigger turnaround? Seriously we've been seeing this shit for months now without anykind of improvement. Even with Rooney, Mata and RvP we lost to Stoke and it wasn't even that undeserved. Even if we now manage to somehow beat the smaller teams, we still got Arsenal, Liverpool, City and Everton to play. After the Stoke game you can kiss the top4 goodbye. Let's enjoy the Olympiakos game and hopefully who we'll face after that because it could be for a few seasons that we won't participate in it.

Thing is, we'll beat Fulham on Sunday but Arsenal will beat us the following week.

I think we have a couple more home defeats to come (scousers being one of them because they ARE better than us)
We have away trips to Everton, Newcastle & Southampton - all of which will be difficult. We also play West Ham in their world cup final

I just can't see Moyes turning this around - he's woeful and the football (if you can call it that) he has us playing is the worst it's been for 30 odd years.

A 7 point lead lost or a deficit turned around hasnt happened before? Cast your mind back to couple of seasons back.

I've already accepted its tough because of how we've been playing but a lost cause it isnt.

8 points to one team in 8 games with one direct game between team playing at a high level is possible.

4-7 points to 3 teams in 15 games at the pace we're averaging points and the games we have left is far more difficult. All it took that season was for us to draw and one defeat and they had it in their own hands. If we were just unlucky and showed some improvement I'd be more optimistic, but after that Stoke game and let's be honest the Cardiff game wasn't anything special either, I've given up on the top4.

Don't know what to think of this move. Vidic clearly isn't player he was and will fall further down the pecking order, but assuming Rio and Evra leave, he would be our only senior player left. We just don't have any other defender at the back who possesses the natural leadership and organisational qualities he has had over the years.

It would be a massive blow to the team and a loss that should be replaced with an experienced and quality centre back who possesses the same raw abilities Vidic did. Even if that signing did hinder one of Jones, Smalling or Evans progress and continuity at the back. We aren't in a position where we should be adding squad players otherwise we will regress even further, an injection of immediate quality into the first team is needed.

Losing to Stoke was hardly deserved. They scored a deflection and an unstoppable goal that fell luckily to Adam anyway. The conditions were terrible, and yes I know it's the same for both teams but the luck fell to them.

As far as I'm concerned, the season starts from the day Mata signed. So by that ridiculous theory we won our first game and lost the second in terrible conditions and misfortune against us. 8 points is very doable, but we have to hope all luck goes in our favour now in terms of opposition results.

Really and truly 4th is a big ask, but it's not out of this realm.

That's the key. If we continue playing like this, we'l need to be incredibly lucky and even then, I think we'l fall short.

We need to play better, not great free flowing football but better. And then we need some luck. Its still possible. Everton and Spurs are no great shakes.

We were terrbile against Stoke and deserved to lose. no matter how you want to dress it up, they wanted it more and deserved to win. Stoke fecking City

It was a very even game where they got lucky and got the 3 points. They hardly deserved it. We played shit, no doubt about it but Stoke were the same.

That's obviously your opinion and David Moyes' - everyone else seems to view it differently. I seem to recall Stoke missing a couple of really good chances at 2-1 up.
with the players at our disposal, we shouldn't be finding ourselves in that situation against Stoke. It's just not good enough and the blame lies with negative bollocks Moyes.

We both played shit, but they deserved the win, simply because they took their chances.
At the end of the day we were playing Stoke, we should be winning those type of games. If it was a one off then fair enough, but it's not.

Moyes thought we played well so we dont really share the same opinion. I agree with the rest of it as I've already stated. My argument was against the belief that Stoke deserved to win. They didnt, they got lucky.

Take their chances? 1 deflected goal and a stunner is what they had. I'm not denying we were shit neither am I denying that we should be playing better and winning such games. Am just saying they didnt deserve to win either. Just them getting lucky.

Yeah, I'm of the same view and, for what it's worth, I'd give him another season if he's willing, but I think he's been looking shakier than he ever has this season. Injuries seem to have had their toll on him and the current situation of him being either available for one game a week, or being injured on and off throughout the season, isn't exactly ideal. In a perfect world Evans, Jones and Smalling would be ready to step up and seamlessly replace him. As good as Evans has been, I don't think he's anywhere near Vidic's level at his best and the other two still have plenty to learn. If we started next season without Vidic, Evra and Rio it would be hard not to have some concerns, given the amount of experience and know how we'd be getting rid of.

Well, you ideally always should have four centre back options, so as much faith as I have in Smalling and Jones - Evans not so much - we should be delving into the market if Rio and Vidic aren't here next season.

I would personally hold onto Vidic and use the rest of this season as a springboard for two of Jones, Smalling and Evnas to develop a partnership. This season is close to a write off anyway, so it would be pointless persisting with Jones in midfield when that in all likelihood won't be his long-term position.

I believe we need a centre back in the foreseeable future. That along with two central midfielders, a left back and a rotation fullback are the keys areas we should be addressing first, but a centre back can wait a year I think. If Vidic leaves, then that puts a whole different complexion on matters however.

No, what they had was 1 goal more than us.
Yes it was a wicked deflection, but if you don't shoot you don't score, as for the second it was a superb goal that is worthy to win any game.

But they weren't lucky, far from it. They had more shots on target than us and IMO wanted it more.

I know they had a goal more, jesus. Have I ever argued argued that we played well or deserved to win or something? If you dont shoot you dont score is hardly a ringing endorsement of how they deserved to win. And we had more shots both on and off target but both teams played poorly so I wont even use that to justify how we deserved to win because we didnt.

Don't knwo how to embed tweets. Anyway, Duncan Castles has tweeted saying he'll have some unexpected United news later. Make of that what you will.

I'm curious. This better not be a lie from him.

My prediction is that it's Rene-back-to-United rumour related.

It's been long established that Castles knows nothing.
He seems like such a WUM who posts something uninteresting behind a Sulia link every now and again, pretending its big news.

He often writes for Goal which tells you as much as you need to know about the guy and his reliability.
