Yeah, I actually think that's Carrick's best role. And he'll still be among our top 3 central midfielders next season if we buy 2 top class midfielders now and/or summer..

Can Fellaini play a high pressing game? He's seemed quite immobile so far. And Carrick surely will be here next season, at least as a quality squad player, though I think he'll play quite a lot.

Well he can play a high game, not sure about a pressing one.

The clear out will be gradual I'm sure. Anderson went this window. We might see Cleverley go in the summer. A year from then, Carrick might move out. I expect us to sign a maximum of 2 midfielders in the summer.

Anderson will return to the club as things stand, Carrick won't be leaving in a year either, the only remote possibility was Clev in the summer, which I still as unlikely as he's HG.

Could this be one of the first times a club has missed out on the same player on deadline day in two consecutive windows?

I don't think there's any substance to it, it's quiet, deals done early so they are re-hashing... RM need a LB before they'll let go.

This is one of those rules I don't really understand. If they sanction two transfer windows, one of which allows a player to play a competitive game prior to the summer window shutting, surely it isn't right to stop a player from moving in the second window?

I'll clarify. Skybet have odds of Koke to United shortening, whilst being have it shortening that he stays. Caution.

Has "bookies slashed the odds of X joining" ever been accurate as far as modern Premier League transfers are concerned?

I've never understood why people post them, if the odds are slashed down to evens, or so far off you'd be a millionaire if it happened, it has no relevance to a transfer taking place, it's to do with bookies covering themselves, for example, how many times I cross a road doesn't affect the colour of the shirt I was wearing, despite wearing it while walking on the road.. it's nothing to do with it.

Eh?

apparently atletico inquired about a potential replacement for koke, Valencia 's banega

Well yeah, they did it with Mata. It's obviously not an indicator of likelihood given that bookies are sneaky bastards and would happily manipulate such a market.

They hated Banega when he was there before. He showed up to training drunk and they tried to get rid of him while he was there on loan.

And all the while he was a great impact player for them off the bench. They didn't try and sign him for a mediocre fee after the loan though which was a huge mistake. They could have sold him for double it by now

As for the connection with Koke, Koke plays left and right midfield for Atletico. Valencia just now started trying Banega on the right of midfield but its never been his position and very unlikely that he'd be bought to play there regularly as Koke's replacement. He's more of a central-only version of Koke's ability to create chances, but with Koke having the versatility to do it from wide instead.

Maybe they'd sign Banega and get a wide player as well, that way trying to replace both elements of what Koke gives them.

I wonder what Ogden means by 'Still trying' but probably we're gonna have to wait for tomorrow's morning for some solid news.

£38m for a central defender from Portugal is madness, and I say that as somebody who hates the discussion of 'value'.

We've been linked with Mangala for a while, haven't we? If Vidic and Ferdinand are leaving maybe we should be competing for this guy. £38m though...

Still, we've been linked with Garay too and he's probably an inferior talent, no? If we do need a CB and this guy is a seriously top talent maybe it'd be worth it?

Nastasic is younger, looks to be more elegant and more proven. Pellegrini shouldn't block his path.

Well, someone like Ferdinand cost £30m 12 years ago. If Mangala was a similar talent maybe £34m isn't that insane considering how much prices have inflated since then? Marquinhos cost around €31m, Thiago Silva around €42, Ferdinand's fee would be around €45m today. Value depends on the player, really.
