Would be delighted if they sold him.
I wouldn't be delighted. But it obviously wouldn't be bad because he's a match winner, and has the potential to score 30 goals a season in a few years if he works hard (in my opinion anyway). But I think he was always going to be off somewhere at some point soon.

And just as Chelsea were looking as if they'd be struggling to match our bids should we go for the same player, they'd suddenly be in a position where they have £100 million just like that, and a huge wage reduction.

I'd worry they'd spend it really well and get that balance that they still lack. I don't even think Hazard, as good as he is, is quite Mourinho's type either.

Has he ever predicted anything that actually came true ? I remember him saying Thiaga Alcantara was as good as ours

He was as good as ours. Have you missed the numerous briefings that Moyes turned it down (and is now actually trying to blame Giggs for saying 'he wasn't a Man Utd player')?

Every respectable journalist covering United said we were getting Thiago, and they didn't just invent the stories.

In fairness, he says 'if you ask me where I think he will end up, I would say Chelsea.' which is hardly a nailed on certainty and just expressing an opinion (which is his job). It would seem we aren't on the Cesc train this year...

I am pretty sure there is no solid truth of what you just said, not from Moyes,Giggs,Woody,Thiago or his agent etc

I really enjoy that all those briefings seem to have stopped under Van Gaal so far. Since the rejection of Kroos and the same old Shaw stories we haven't heard anything new so far.

Hopefully everyone is far too busy working, to be briefing the press.

Ok.

His father let it slip

Forget about it. His Dad is lying too, clearly. He's just like Andy Mitten, Mark Ogden and everyone else. Lying...

...for no obvious reason...

...yeah.

Woodward's job is on the line this time. They know they have very little time to work on the transfers this time.

It just seems that we're now having a more silent approach to things. Between the days before the sacking and Van Gaals appointment, they were briefed nearly every day, now it's pretty much quite on all fronts.

Don't get too upset mate, didn't realize you were such a Graham Hunter Enthusiast, Apologies

I also think the sudden quiet is partly down to the journalists themselves.

IMHO there was an undertone to Andy Mitten's piece on Kroos:

For example, in the piece, Mitten writes:

'Ed Woodward regularly briefs what’s going on. Or his version of what’s going on. Which can be very different to what is actually going on when several parties have a vested interest in a potential deal'

'United don’t put out any information unless a deal has been done. They’d look very stupid saying what the Mail said about Kroos, only for Kroos not to join United. So the media talk on United’s behalf, but that’s also a risky strategy as the media are not United’s public relations department. Nor do they like to look stupid by printing something which turns out to be nonsense'

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but putting 2+2 together it feels like Mitten is saying: Woodward is giving us his version of events but that is often very different to the reality. The press are writing stuff briefed by Woodward but are being made to look stupid as a result, and they don't like it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Manchester press pack have decided to stop doing United transfer stories until they have iron clad information that a deal is actually going to take place.

The less Woodward says the better, in my opinion. Like said above, now we've experienced both sides of the coin under different regimes, I do prefer the quieter approach to business, and would prefer it to remain that way going forward. I hate Woodward's posturing to the media. As long as he gets some business done between now and September then everything will be fine, we don't need to brief absolutely everything.

I don't know, I have a hard time believing the press would take some moral stance on how true their transfer stories are. Why start now? Any load of crap, no matter how farfetched, attracts clicks and ad revenue which is what they are ultimately after. Maybe some of the more established journalists might change course but at the end of the day, they need United more than United need them.

I think it's the same for every club tbh, the utter tripe that comes out of the media, honestly.

For example, Michael Dawson was on with Alan Brazil this morning and he was asked about being linked with another club, he said he knew nothing about it.

The media don't know shit about transfers.

There's only so many times you can cry wolf before people stop believing it.

Also, don't forget the journalists themselves are human beings. They don't like people questioning their journalistic integrity, if you look at some of the recent twitter exchanges you can tell they're p'd off about being called liars. Especially as they ran with information that, I assume, came from the man who should know what's going on at United. None of them can actually say X told me this, because they'd never get another United story again and as the Manchester sports correspondent that would be a career ender. However, you can tell they're not 100 per cent happy with the way their stories have gone down.

I don't think that Woody all of a sudden had become more sensible in the market, but Van Gaal told him to shut up and just land the targets without a big fuss.

You're right about the rest though. The briefings made by Woodward are mostly excuses or simply lies. I mean who really believes that Herrera wasn't a target and they had no idea what was going on? Or who they categorically denied that the Glazers meet Van Gaal ... Yeah right.

We are not even linked with anyone anymore. There are more people rejecting us than wanting to be linked with us.
It's like we are the ugly girl throwing ourselves at every guy in the party but no one wants to take us to their home or even a shady street.
Woodward is just a joke. All the top 4 contenders are getting better we are being hitch slapped by every player there is. I am so sad :' (

For those that a criticising Graham Hunter, if you listen to the audio he doesn't say that Fabregas 'will' join Chelsea, but that is where he thinks he will end up.

Except it's nothing like that, it's all idiot speculation in the first place...

Exactly, and it wan't just him with the Thiago stuff. Just about every paper covering it in England and Spain had him joining us at one point.

We are very quiet the last few weeks. Not sure whether that is a good thing or not. I was hoping to see some done deals before the World Cup in order to take off some of the pressure but it seems that is not going to be the case. Woody will have a lot to after the world cup, not sure he's up for the job.

Don't lose hope, it's too early. Remember how we signed mata - within days we wraped it up. Before the signing all journos were briefed that we are not intrested.

I dont get what his issue is with that system? We tried it once and it worked.

How can it be that a world class bullshitter like your good self has failed to develop even a hint of a facetiousness detector? I don't think I've ever seen a poster so consistently failing to grasp playful flippancy and borderline mean-spirited sarcasm alike.

Yea it absolutely sucks seeing our rivals signing players and us doing nothing.

How I wish we got Ricky Lambert before Liverpool.

I do agree on the change in tone, you're seeing more of them put out information and repeat over and over that it's just what they heard. Or references to how things are done now.

It's frustrating but I hope there's a rationale behind it from United/Woodward's standpoint. Hopefully lessons were learned over the last year. Woodward, like Moyes, made mistakes in focusing on the wrong things (e.g. becoming a media darling, overpromising) and that ended up costing us. Still, it will all come down to what our squad looks like Sept 1. The fans won't care if the club dicks around the media so long as we do eventually get quality players in.

It's just totally different to what the Dutch are used to,
Would suit our squad if he tried to play a diamond too. Its basically the same as the 352 he was playing if the most defensive of the diamond four drops deep between the centre backs anyway.

The media don't know shit about transfers.

A journalist is only as good as his sources. Sometimes they get good info from the club, player or agent. Sometimes they are being misled by someone with an interest.

And sometimes they just invent some crap to sell papers.

I'm sure Holland are currently playing 5-3-2. A few Dutch players have spoken about being excited about playing in the system in the World Cup. A very deep midfielder, or a sweeper in the backline could very easily make that system appear to look like a 4-4-2 diamond. In both systems, the width is going to come from full backs, and one of the midfielders should be playing a very disciplined role, so the differences between the two could be negligible in theory.

It's still a weird point though. Ancelotti also used to be a big advocate of the 4-4-2 diamond. Brendan Rodgers used it a few times in the seaosn just gone too.. Not sure what's so mad about it.
