Not everyone is a clued up as you clearly are on transfer stories and a lot of people are willing to believe whatever they read no matter the source and then get angry when it doesn't all pan out the way they thought it would. SportsWitness do a good job of collecting information from various stories, tracing it back to it origins and giving and educated evaluation of the reliability and credibility of the source. In a social media run world consisting of 99% bullsh*t, they are quite refreshing imo.

You just stated 99% of stories are bs. So why do you need a website to tell you that if you have such a solid conviction?

Fair point..

So what's taking so long to sign Luke Shaw then? These other targets LVG apparently wants?

Because Southampton have already stated they don't want to sell any more players for the time being. We've lodged a bid, offered exceptional, ground - breaking terms, now we wait. Or do you have a problem with that?

We've bid what is all things considered an over generous sum for Shaw, and potentially offering him a crazy wage too. Southampton have said they don't want to conduct any major business before a new manager comes in. Shaw is at his first World Cup, and about to make the biggest decision of his career to date. What do you want Woody to do? Throw more money at the club/Shaw?!

You see Liverpool been any more successful than us with their Lallana bids?

The fact that transfers often take months to sort out? There are plenty of third parties involved, stage payments and add-ons to agree, agent fees, wages, currency issues... its not like FM.

Personally I think that ripping up our original targets which we had done a huge amount of groundwork on to go for Van Gaal's list is a really really bad mistake and exactly what happened last season simply because we're chasing our tail when all the clubs with settled management teams or directors of football are in a very comfortable position.

Agreed that Southampton losing their manager has put a spanner in the works but we've been linked to this kid for some time as we have known LVG will be manager.. Saints say they don't need to sell blah blah blah but money talks and from the sounds of it talks once again broke down on Friday.

P.S i did not claim to be clued up. I like you do not believe 99% of what i read regarding transfers. We would have the best squad of players in the world if the media were to be believed.

Jesus christ, we discussed it yesterday regarding Luke Shaw.

We did yeah, I'm talking in general. Other clubs seem to get linked with a player and inside the week they've agreed terms, signed player etc. We seem to drag talks for weeks and weeks regarding any deal.

Aside from Ricky Lambert, tell me which other deal has been finalised?

Money does talk, hence they will sell him when they think the time is right, not when people on RedCafe deem it appropriate. There is nothing whatsoever the club can do to force Southampton to sell at this point. I keep saying it, but if or when our negotiating team do make an arse of the window then we can question their motives. Doing so right now is just stupidity.

Please do enlighten us about these completed deals done by the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Spurs etc.

In this Country? Not many but around Europe teams are doing business already. I am well aware we still have 3 months or so until the window shuts but this summer Ed said we'd have signings before the World Cup which clearly isn't going to happen. It's all empty promises like last summer so far.

I also said that people are idiots and are willing to believe anything they read. SportsWitness are like a gentle nudge in the right direction for the unguided muppet masses :). Obviously experienced veterans of the transfer merry go round like ourselves are not in dire need of their services but that shouldn't take away from what they do.

I see a lot of "rumours" regarding other clubs but no big deals being done. Any of these that appear to go through quickly tend to be deals which have probably been in the offing for 6 months, or are players you've hardly heard of.

The top players will have numerous advisors etc and it all takes time - especially when a) you've appointed a manager less than a fortnight ago, and b) its a World Cup year.

The reality is that transfers materielise usually over weeks and months, unless there is pressure to get it done because of deadlines.

A colleague I was working alongside was actually involved in a player transfer once - a third division player to a club in Scotland. The legal complexities even of that were substantial. Imagine what its like dealing with a multi-millionaire and image rights and whatever else?

What, are you one of those idiots that believe as soon as a story hits the newspaper that's when initial contacts between the clubs were made?

We were talking to Mata last October, there was nothing mentioned until the back end of January. This is all very common.

I understand all that. The fact it's world cup year coupled with no champions league football gives us a disadvantage when it comes to any negotiations.

Only Dortmund have conducted their business quickly.

Real Madrid, barcelona(apart from signing Ter Stegen), Juventus, Munich haven't yet made any signings. Also, I'm sure this is not the first time you're having this argument with someone on the Caf and yet you come out with this bullshit in nearly every other thread. Nip it in the bud.

Let me tell you why its so frustrating, if Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Madrid, Barca, Juve, Bayern were interested in a player and it was reported in the press we wouldnt question for one second whether they could pull it off, when it comes to us we have literally the smallest confidence in our CEO of landing anyone who isnt offered to us.

It seems when we are linked with someone the immediate reaction from fans is "who else could be interested" because we all know that whatever club that may be has more chance of landing them and we have no evidence to suggest anything other than we get outbid, take to long to dither or fuss over a couple of million and end up losing out. See Thiago, Ozil, Harrera, Hazard, Matic all who have convenient "we werent interested" excuses stapled to the back of them.

I was so confident of Shaw, and I had heard that he was definitely coming, but recently it seems we are YET AGAIN dithering over small contract issues. We briefed the press we would have our business done early to dismiss the previous windows, to move on and learn from mistakes. At the moment we have no confidence, not a smidge to suggest we are addressing the main issues in the squad like CB, midfield and that to me is shocking.

Nope, I don't believe a deal is done in a day. Far from it. I'm just saying it's a massive summer for the club, we need a new spine of the team almost. Factor in it's a world cup year and we have no European football plus the fact our manager has other things to focus on right now, the summer is going to be a long, difficult one as it is.

So what? You're suggesting we're getting left behind by other clubs, which simply isn't true. You dont know what the club are doing behind the scenes.

By all accounts we had the ground work done for Carvalho and Kroos, but LVG has decided that he doesn't want them. What else is Woodward suppose to do? He worked on acquiring Moyes' targets for months and suddenly the new manager has handed him a new list.

Unless you're involved you dont know that the club are "dithering" over contract issues.

Southampton have said they wont be selling anymore players until the appoint a new manager. The player is also at the World Cup. Are they not more likely explanations?

I don't know that's right but we are already behind the other clubs.. a slow summer with all these factors going against us we are in danger of falling even further behind.

Have you thought that maybe the reason is because you spend too much time reading about who Utd might be signing and don't pay attention to other clubs? How long have Chelsea been linked to Diego Costa? Haven't seen him holding a Chelsea shirt aloft yet. Lallana to Liverpool? Haven't heard what his squad number is yet. City and Mangala? When's the press conference?

I really don't care what the other clubs do.. I'm more concerned that we have an average squad which is in need of some top class reinforcements and yet top quality players don't seem to be on the new managers radar (to which I'm not overly bothered, I am excited to see what direction LVG is going to go).

I bet you think your girlfriend is ugly

Every time i see the thread bumped to the top of the homepage I get excited, only to find page after page of long posts..

I have to agree with you and its beginning to piss me off. The issue would be nothing if we hadnt already breifed everyone that we were hoping to get our business done before the World Cup which A. Means weve failed as the cup is next week. OR B. Woodward has shown us YET AGAIN an alarming amount of naivety in suggesting he would be able to get deals done whilst players arent interested in anything other than the national competition.

I suppose that's fair in a sense. The thing is the average muppet who still believes the press probably does not have the brain capacity to read through sporting's disection of a story. They want to believe the garbage in the headlines they read thus making them beyond help.

But you're comparing us to other clubs. If you're going to do that you need to realise it happens everywhere.

It might. But we're three weeks into the summer. I prefer to wait until the end of the summer before judging.

This conversation has become so deep

Good lord. Imagine Chelsea being given £100 million for two players.
Talk about being thrown a bone (even if Hazard is class).
