SportsWitness is just TribalFootball with added scepticism. They don't produce stories, then take them from other news outlets.

Not really, they don't try or claim to be a source, they just basically go through rumours and 'debunk' them and see how they've started. Nowt like the bollocks TribalFootball and the rest of them shite 'sources' post.

Why don't the Caf create a stupid account like tacamendi/rafaelhernandez/indykaca like all those 12 year old kids that claim to be secret agents? Then everybody suscribe to that account, and then we could create stupid stories like the one that they created now, the suarez to United one...

Ok i'm leaving.

I for one believe that Woody is sat in his office, laughing his balls off at all these wild goose chases the papers are on, and has all but agreed a sh!Tload of top notch deals that will go through after the world cup.

Who's with me.....

anyone?
I'm with you. I know you were probably half joking, but take the cavani link, first fed straight to Daniel Taylor, has to have been complete and utter bullshit. I genuinely think Woodward is being evasive with our true targets and possibly leading them up the garden path a bit re the others.

I'm also of the opinion that Woodward is leading the press a merry dance

If he isn't playing a clever game, it's one of the worst games ever.
Although as the former money making man, it must pain him to hear the fees being demanded for one player!

He did a 2-3 part interview with Andy Mitten in UWS soon after he replaced Gill and came off with some rather cocky comments about never having bought a player but he's closed loads of deals (commercial) how difficult can it be (or something along those lines - I might have a look for the exact quote after work if I remember).

He's not exactly looked adept at the role so far. Him and Moyes were a disaster as a combination last summer. Publicly chasing everyone and ending up with no-one, except Fellaini of course who we dithered over so much that we ended up paying over his release clause for. That doesn't reflect well. Fast forward to January and the Mata deal. Gill and Ferguson's presence, shaking Roman's hand on the pitch after our game at SB just before the deal was concluded leads me to believe they were there to make it happen. The small-time article afterwards along the lines of "this is how Woodward pulled off the Mata deal" was a cringeworthy attempt to take credit.

I think we need to give him a chance this summer though. He hasn't painted himself in a very good light so far regarding transfers but this summer people are acting as if he's already failed when in reality he still has plenty of time to pull off 3-4 very good signings so I'll reserve judgement until the end of the window.

Part of me thought he wanted to make a big name signing like Cavani, regardless of whether it's what we need or not, to show he is capable of pulling off such deals but I seriously think (hope) he's just been throwing out a few red herrings whilst he quietly gets on with the real business we are doing without the press being all over it.

I probably don't have any actual basis to trust that he will get it right, but for some reason I do. I struggle to believe that the club would have appointed someone inept to one of the most important positions at the football club. I think we just need to be patient. It'll be a long summer with the WC (not using it as an excuse but it's a similar situation for most top clubs) people need to wait a while before losing their shit and going into mass panic.

He's not. Keane apparently will be the Assistant. Villa got rid of their previous Assistant recently.

The final nail in the coffin for Scottish Football - turned down Celtic to hand out training bibs at Aston Villa.

It'd be mad.

Oh look Keane's turned Celtic down out of loyalty to his country, and then to see him leave for a club side, would be incredible!

He can keep his job with Ireland if he takes the Villa job apparently.

In defense of Rafael Hernandez, he usually only talks about Barcelona, just like Andy talks about United mainly. Last summer, Andy said we agreed a deal with Herrera and will pay his clause, then it didn't happen, so Andy is fake? No, he's not. He's just a journalist who happens to have real sources close to the action, and he trusts their info to be able to go public with it. It's very funny how journalists are being criticized here/and on twitter for giving info yet you see millions of people hounding them for info. People should remember that they don't actually conduct transfers, they just hear things and report what they hear, it's not that difficult to understand. However, if someone claims to have every news, for every club/or goes by an agent name or BS like that [e.g Indykaila] then it's probably fake. Real journalists usually have an area where they specialize, like Andy of United, Ballague on Barca/La Liga etc. Expecting them to get everything right, every single time is unrealistic. In conducting transfer business, things can change very fast.

Exactly. I remember Graham Hunter saying that when journos speak about transfer speculation, it's on the basis of "as things stand".

This.

I do it when I start a sentence, otherwise it comes out with a small f.

Talking of the media and bullshitters, what credibility does Sport Witness have? I always see that quoted too.

SportsWitness is just TribalFootball with added scepticism. They don't produce stories, then take them from other news outlets.

As explained before, SportsWitness don't report their own stories. They simply round up some of the more signficant rumours. They also put some sense to those rumours and mostly criticize the stories for being most probably BS. Added to that they translate (German, Spanish etc) the stories with less sensational versions than say a tabloid would.

I've no issue with SportsWitness.

Also worth noting that the information they are given while being from a credible source or direct from the horses mouth might actually be false with the intention of creating a beneficial narrative in the press.

The journalist could never turn down any information that comes directly from a club but could end up looking like they are making stuff up when it turns out to be false.

Obviously there are so many interest groups involved as well; the player, his agent, the club who owns him and the club who wants to buy him (at the very least). The player could be 100% commited to joining United and put out a story through one journo saying the move is on. The club who owns him could put out a story to a different journo saying the deal is never gonna happen (maybe to try get more money, to keep the fans onside or because they genuinely have no intention of selling a prized asset). So you have this scenario where two journos are accurately reporting two incompatible stories from genuine sources but one is going to end up looking like they pulled the story from their ass.

I think some people are too quick to dismiss a journalist over a story that didn't pan out as planned.

Here's an example of what they do.

This is what the article really says. http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/manchester-united-s-43m-bid-explained

Sporting Witness are the most pointless entity on the internet. If anyone on that site is paid for what they do then the world is just wrong and unjust. They basically state the bleeding obvious and anyone with 5 minutes on their hands can do what they do regarding horse manure press rumours regarding football.

If Footy Humour sees fit to retweet them it's good enough for me.

If we assume that Chelsea have landed him, right, that would make it less than 24 hours since they were linked and he agreed to join them. IF that is true and Chelsea do end up with him, then Woodward surely needs to answer some serious questions.

The only way you can do the same thing they do is if you speak Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, etc. The fact they report foreign papers stories is what makes them useful and different from everything else on twitter. Plus giving a bit of insight into how trustworthy each source is and where their information may come from is also handy.

So I guess you speak multiple non-English languages then?

No i dont. But i only need to see the words Man United , a figure of over 45 million euros, and a target we cannot realistically attain to get the jist of an article being horse dung. The majority of that tends to be on the front pages or websites of most of these foreign media outlets like as,marca, el mundodewemakestoriesup.

Ay, that's how it works. Clown.

Tbf their is google translation these days.

They do a good job but they try to find a link b/w stories when there's no link.

Not everyone is a clued up as you clearly are on transfer stories and a lot of people are willing to believe whatever they read no matter the source and then get angry when it doesn't all pan out the way they thought it would. SportsWitness do a good job of collecting information from various stories, tracing it back to it origins and giving and educated evaluation of the reliability and credibility of the source. In a social media run world consisting of 99% bullsh*t, they are quite refreshing imo.

I don't get that at all.

Woody's job is to sign the targets that LVG gives him. If LVG doesn't want him, then we don't bid. Woody doesn't set the transfer targets.

Fair point..

So what's taking so long to sign Luke Shaw then? These other targets LVG apparently wants?
