I agree with the sentiments that Bastian is one of the worlds very best midfielders, wed be absolutely nuts, like beyond ignoring Fabregas, Thiago nuts to not go in for him if he was available.
He has the ability to completely control a game single handedly, combine that with Strootman who will essentially be a ball winner with the ability to distribute and bomb forward and yes, yes we would have one of the best midfields in the country if not europe (starting midfielders) all for about 40m (30 for Strootman, 10 for Bastian) we would literally have a midfield that would dominate most teams in the prem. Wed only really be tested in that department by the high work rate of Chelsea, the intensity of Liverpool and the class of City (provided they keep Yaya).

As for Saurez, he can feck off, NO WAY do we want him.

Not only do we not want Suarez but I wouldn't want him if I'm honest.

I can't forgive Moyes for turning down Thiago and having no interest in Fabregas is bizarre.

We central-midfield-obsessed muppets just can't get a break with our managers - LvG reportedly isn't interested in Fabregas (!!), the Thiago chase was apparently ended by Moyes (!!!), and Sir Alex seemed to forget central-midfield existed for the last six years of his reign (!!!!).

Still we did get Fellaini, so that's something for the central-midfield at least.

Evidently LVG doesnt feel he fits into his plans. Van Gaal likes a system it seems - rather than individual players.

As for Thiago I'm not that fussed. He's more of an attacking midfielder it seems and I think Mata is as good an option, if not better given his experience in the PL.

Wow so they sell Lambert for peanuts and then come out with this?

Lambert is 32. His value was pretty low and will probably continue to go down from now on. Shaw, and maybe even Lallana's values are likely to hold so I think that's why they haven't sold them yet. It will probably require the player requesting to leave or the new manager letting them leave for either of them to go.

The MEN is all guesswork. That report is just a mish-mash of the stuff we have read in the broadsheets over the past couple of weeks. Shite contacts.

I have a feeling that once the first deal is done, the rest will follow pretty quickly!

Hopefully it doesnt take us too long!

We can forget about Shaw for the time being. England are in Miami and going on to Brazil. I doubt the deal will now be completed before the world cup is finished.

According to this journalist, Koeman is odds-on for the Southampton job. Hopefully he might be interested in his fellow Dutchman, Buttner, if we conclude the Shaw deal.

As others have said, I'd be surprised if Shaw signs for anyone now before the end of England's participation in the World Cup.

oh man, we'll have to wait til after the final and trophy parade then :(

So why did they sell Lambert?

From the Sky clockwatch:

More now on Southampton's reaction to Rickie Lambert's move to Liverpool. The striker has been wished well for the future and Saints have explained that they could not 'stand in the way of having him fulfil his boyhood dream of playing at home'. But Southampton would now prefer not to sell any more players before appointing a new manager.

So if Shaw's boyhood dream was to play for Chelsea then he's definitely going to be a United player after the WC. My logic is unquestionable.

Agree it would seem unlikely he would sign until after the WC. The players are a bit busy at the moment.

Saints can sell without a manager, but they can't really go out and buy a replacement. They don't want a gaping hole in their squad without a new manager being able to identify replacements.

Problem is, if Southampton have a bad season, then Shaw's value might actually go down. God help them if they get relegated. His current value might be the most they can get for him.

Good point. By all accounts the lad wants the move and we've seemingly offered a massive sum of money to make this happen. The new manager will likely want funds to spend so it could make sense for everyone.

The fact is southampton have Chambers ready to take his position anyway, or even Clyne can play LB. I have no doubts they will cash in if Shaw really wants to move on.

Apparently Varane has stated he will confirm his future after WC, after recent Chlesea speculation, I'm sure it's a nothing story, but scary thought.

Surely we'll go after him as well if he's available. Would be perfect for us.

Maybe it's 25m + Büttner and the new manager must decide if he wants Büttner

I reckon £22m + Buttner would be a fair deal for both sides. Buttner is at their level IMO and I don't think £25m + a £5m rated player would be quite fair for us although getting Buttner off the wage would obviously help a bit, with that said though we will need a backup left back next summer.

I love how brazen these players are these days.

If he's under contract, his employers must read those kind of statements with curiosity.

Probably thinking: 'like feck you will'

I don't really agree, he hasn't said anything wrong, perhaps they (RM) haven't offered him a renewal yet, so he was quite honest in saying I don't know, I'll decide after WC, can't see why he'd want to leave after just winning the CL and being one of the major CB's in that team, which makes me think Ancelotti is a fan of his..

Yea, I meant if he is under contract that keeps him there whether he wants to leave or not.

If he is free to talk to other clubs or activate some kind of buy out, then fair enough.
