I hope Wenger isn't the one who's holding up our deal for Shaw.

First Kenwyne Jones now Kiko.. I don't know, neither of them are good enough IMO. Why does Ole sign them? I understand he worked with him and he trusts Macheda but he should have gone for a better option to fill that striker role.

Good luck to Kiko and Cardiff. Hopefully they'll come straight back up.

Hate to say it but Ole is looking pretty clueless. Signing all our rejects isn't going to work.

Macheda was doing well at Championship level. If Ole gets the rest of the team right then the guy will put the ball in the net. It's doesn't seem like a bad signing at all, in my opinion.

Very talented. Probably wanting a wage increase but if he was available he'd be a better buy than Clasie.

Del Bosque hasn't managed at club level for 9 years and hasn't managed at this level in any of the big countries in 11. I'd doubt he was even on the list let alone top of it.

Hmm why wouldn't he be? The man has won pretty much everything going.

Macheda has a brilliant record in the championship, and he's still young. No real risk in the signing and he'll probably be a success there.

He isn't a club manager, he's not been involved in winning anything at club level in over a decade. He's only ever managed Real Madrid and did so at a time of the Galacticos. It's not to degraded his achievements over that two or three year period but at club level we are talking about a guy who is 64 this year and had three successful seasons in club management. When you combine that with the length of absence from the club game I'd be stunned, despite his previous achievements, if he was ever top of the list.

International football is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Arda Turan would be a class signing. Can't see him leaving the Spanish champions though.

Benatia did an interesting interview with Gazzetta. Sounds pissed off at not being given the wages he was promised.

He would be the perfect defender for us - strong, quick, good on the ball, a great leader and at 27 a very good age to balance experience with potentially 4 or 5 years at the top level. Linked strongly with Bayern and City, but has previously spoken of wanting a move to United a year or so back.

He managed Madrid just before the Galactico era. They won the Champions league in 2000, before Figo (the first galactico) had even been signed. Even though you say you are not degrading his achievements, you have.

2000 - Champions League
2001 - La Liga
2002 - Champions League
2003 - La Liga

Not many managers have anything close to that record and when you add in his International one...

His success at club level don't extend beyond a 3 year period at the turn of the century. You can take a snapshot of a few careers over a short period of time. Between 2002-2005, Benitez won two La Liga titles with Valencia and the Champions League with Liverpool, you could well argue the case that's every bit if not more impressive than Del Bosque's record in that 3 year period listed above.

Simeone was within extra time of winning the league and European double with Atletico. If you discount international success, which whilst impressive I'm not sure is directly relevant, you could take a snapshot of any number of managers over the last 15-20 years and make the case for them. Di Matteo won the CL in his first 42 games, for example. It may not compare to two wins and two league win but strictly speaking it's a quarter of the way there in far, far less than a quarter of the time.

He's an international manager and a great one at that but he's spent so long out of club management and to be honest didn't spend much time in it when he did having managed Madrid on a full time basis for just 3 and a half years before going onto international management. When you're recruiting someone to turn a club like United around I'm not sure if someone who only really has 3 years of top level club management, regardless of how good those achievements were, would be top of the list. Especially when over a decade removed from it.

I think a proven track record at club level over a sustained period of time would have been quite high on the criteria list for the new appointment, and certainly not someone who hadn't managed at the club level in one of the big leagues since Giggs was still in his 20s
