Couldn't Athletico help him out and slap a ridiculous fee on him. 80m+

For him to sign a contract, the clubs must've already had a transfer worked out. You can tap a player up, like everyone is doing now, but signing a contract without the permission of the club is still a no go. If Costa already signed a contract, Atletico already agreed to a fee.

Oh

oh right I was under the impression players can sign contracts but clubs can't exchange funds.

Sure, he could. That doesn't mean that's what I prefer, though. (And Schweinsteiger will be 30 when the season starts, by the way).

Do his balls drop a centimeter lower the time the clock strikes 12 on his birthday?

No he has a release clause and if that articles to be believed, he's already signed the contract to join Chelsea. That's the point.
Ahh I see, could he not sign a new contract at Atletico with a higher/no release clause?

The formal right way is to have a transfer fee worked out with the club and then you're allowed to talk to a player. These days it's mostly, everything is agreed with the player and you try to convince the club to sell player X to you. But to sign a contract, without the current club having a deal agreed would be dumb.

Chelsea can't trigger that clause. He would need to force himself out of the contract like Javi Martinez did. So Atletico and Chelsea must've agreed on the fee.

Could get messy for Chelsea signing a player that essentially doesn't want to be there from the off, better to cancel the deal and go for someone else perhaps Falcao or Benzima.

Even with the release clause, he could have simply turned down Chelsea's contract. The release clause does not mean whoever pays it, gets him. I dont believe the bollocks about him wanting to get our either. Or if they are, he will as there's no way Chelsea will sign a player for 30mil and surely high wages if he doesnt want to come.

Yeah I think if this report is real then Chelsea will pull out unless Mou can convince him otherwise.

Remember Cavani is in the PSG bargain bin for the discounted price of 60m. He'd be perfect for Mous style.

I would love it if this deal was cancelled, can't imagine that they will find themselves the world class striker they crave for that price.

Mandzukic would really suit Chelsea's style of play IMO. Bayern want to get rid. Win win for both parties concerned. Chelsea gets a good striker at a decent rate and can proceed to refurbish other areas of their squad with FFP in mind. And Bayern get rid of a player not harmonious with Pep's philosophy.

Would be nice to see our rivals transfers fall apart for a change...

FFS HOW DO CHELSEA SORT THEIR TRANSFERS SO QUICKLY WHILST WE feck AROUND!

SACK WOODWARD!

At the state we're in, you would expect us to make 2 major signings before the WC, does not seem like that is going to happen.:nervous:

Who cares when we make the signings as long as we get them? Our new manager won't start until mid-July anyway.

I personally think it is important to get 1 or 2 in before the world cup for a few reasons.

1. Relieve some pressure on bringing all the players in a short time after the world cup
2. Give other potential signings an indication of what we are trying to do
3. A signal of intent to everybody

The World Cup starts in just over 2 weeks, and nothing seems remotely imminent. It'll be late July now. Also, number 3 must be the worst reason to sign a player imaginable.

They could go back in for Rooney if the Costa thing falls apart. The former might need to have a good World Cup for LvG to consider keeping him.

THe only place I've ever read van Gaal is thinking of getting rid of Rooney is wishful thinking comments on here.

Yeah. Rooney's reputation is fine outside of England.
It's probably closer to the other end of the scale: He'll need to do something drastic to change the opinion Van Gaal will come here with - that he's a top player.

 wenger blocked the deal, what a load of bollocks.

What did he do, make a barricade of water bottles?

If that was true Fab would give them the middle finger

Sorry fab, we don't want you, but we don't want you to go anywhere else either.
