That was mentioned many times last summer - right up until the last day of the window, so in all honesty man - most fans have run out of patience when it comes to us signing world-class CM's & we're sick of hearing how much cash we're bringing in every year & feck all spent in CM. Also, the Pogba situation is still a very sore point.

Its complete frustration at the clubs handling of key areas of the 1st team. No like for like replacements for Rio & Vida. No CM apart from Carrick - who's been overused, same as Evra, who looks like he's goin too. Us fans have every right to be annoyed about whats been goin on for years man. Its not a knee-jerker.

Passing up on Kroos is beyond belief if true. Its sickening. No one gives a shit how much wages he wants. Rooney's on £300k per wk ffs. He's no-where near a player of Messi or Ronaldo's calibre to be earning that dough, so LvG's opinion that he only wants players that want to play for the club - not for money, is braindead & Fergie-esque mentality - which is redundant in modern football.

The club said we're gonna try to get alot of our business sorted before the WC. The WC starts in 20 days & we supposedly had a number of top targets already sorted - just needing the new manager to sign off on. Now we hear he has his own list & its no where near as quality as the one United had (seems to be him goin Dutch again) - if thats not reason to be downbeat i dont know what is. We have previous of wastin opportunities to sign quality & much needed top-class players & not just last summer either!

As regards to Kroos. Scholesy was just waxing lyrical yesterday about how wicked a signing that would be - mutual respect i gathered from that. Now we hear LvG said no to that deal!

Of course we should trust the new manager, but if he passed up on Kroos - then he better have an ace up his sleeve, aswell as all the other players he seems to be passing up on.

Lets not forget that Moyes passed up on Thiago, Strootman & Garay last summer after we'd done all the groundwork, we just needed him to sign off on them. Look how our season panned out.

We cant make the same mistakes this summer & what time is LvG gonna have to construct a Prem winning team like he said he wants next season either?

From what i've heard - LvG gives a list of players in each position to the board with no back-up options. If United cant get them its back to the drawing board, which holds everything up even longer.

How many players get signed during the WC & will the Dutch allow LvG to double-job - i feckin doubt?! I'd be rippin if i was Dutch & he was allowed to double-job thats for sure!

LvG officially takes over in mid-July when his Dutch contract ends. We then go on tour to the States on 23rd July. Not a great situation for United to be in & thats why this pre-WC period was crucial for us to get many deals sorted - especially world-class deals like Kroos..

Patience, in any other circumstance apart from WC year & a new manager coming in mid-July, is what you would see from every United fan, but this summer is critical for us get world-class players in & our new manager (at 62 years old lets not forget) - how can he do 2 jobs at the same time, when the Dutch FA have said he has to do his Dutch job 1st & foremost!

Are you ok mate? You paint a bleak future. I think this will be the best transfer window for us since Hargreaves Nani Tevez.....

The Mata deal was reported to be sorted by a 3rd party & a Fergie to Mourinho intervention to start with..

Last summers window was a wake up call, but yet we didnt address our CM problems in the January window either. Cabaye was available & we passed up on him & signed Mata instead - a luxury player we didnt need, but we surely love to death as a footballer & as a person of course.

There was bound to have been plenty of available top-class CM players in Jan if we were focussed on 4th spot, but we instead thought Mata was the key. Cabaye would have been ideal for us in my opinion & would have cost the same as Young ffs!

Cabaye Strootman and or Matic would have improved us massively and were all available

I hope not. The players from our best transfer window turned out to be duds, injured or cnuts.

It was a very exciting and we went on to have our most exciting/successful period ever at united. It was great looking at the bench that year with so many options compared to what we have now it is embarrassing!

I like the Caf sometimes.

When we sign a player it's nothing to do with Woodward. When we miss out on a target, it's obviously to do with Woodward.

Yeah i'm fine mate - thanks for asking :)

I hate to be bleak as you say, but our situation isnt ideal man. LvG wasnt our 1st choice thats for sure & its most likely for the reasons i mentioned - WC & him not starting the job proper til mid-July.

When we've got dosh to spunk - spunk it on top-class players & pay them the going-rate of wages for their ilk - not potential top-class players or Dutch 30-somethings that have fecked us round either!

I like the look of a couple of players that have come up under the radar - especially that Ukraine winger. He'd be wicked at United. I'm open to alternatives of course, but we need a monopoly of established world-class players coming in this window. We have the money - so spend it & get rid of the deadwood.

I'd tear my hair out if we line up on the 1st day of the season with Young on a wing, "Clevz" in CM, Buttner at LB & Fellaini playing in the hole :smirk:

We need to be ready to go on paper when the season starts!

This thread and i should have realised it on the first page never mind 119 pages in just cements what i have always known- journo's know nothing when it comes to utd and transfers. So wide of the mark so often its become a joke.

and yet the most blame the club and not the journos.

That would have been a game changer big time...

Cant blame Moyes goin for Fabregas & Herrera tho. Those two would have made a difference, but we wasted too much time on them & it didnt help that Ed was on the tour with us doin his promotional thing - when thats not his brief anymore.. Cabaye & Strootman would have been wicked. I hate to even think about what could have been, then again Moyes had no idea what he was doin, but i doubt any of those 2 could have been as bad as Cleverley.

I'm just sick to death (like most fans) of the same old excuses for us not gettin players in. We've no CM's apart from Carrick & Fletch & those 2 are off form or dealing with illness recovery, so we need a complete overhaul - atleast 3 CM's in & use the U-21 & youth team players to bed in throughout the season. I'd love to see Ben Pearson gettin a run of games as a sub & then a starter. There's too many to mentioned of course, but he's a wonderful CM & i'm liking him to a Scholesy type player too.. Check him out if you have seen him play on mutv. Youtube will probably have vids on him to be honest..

It was at that time. Just goes to show that the spending money and buying top talents doesn't guarantee to a great squad or team in the long run. That transfer window is somewhat responsible for the current state of our midfield and wings.

First time in years we spend money to match Chelsea's spending and end up with Nani, Tevez, Anderson, Hargreaves, Kuszczak and Possebon. Then we go on to replace Tevez with another dud in Berbatov. :(

They're all pissing in the wind. Then one journo makes a claim, citing "club insiders" and they all run with it so that they appear to be in on the info.

Yup 'oooh we missed out on this player or that player what utd playing at'

When in essence we were never in for 99% of the people the press link us with.

Did Kroos not just come out & say he was never coming to United, as soon as it was bein reported that LvG pulled the plug?

Did Thiago not join Bayern the day after we said we were never interested or some shit like that?

Some players we had to be in for & those two mentioned, we were in for from what i've read & from what my Tarot cards & Ouiija read on Monday night too!

The thing is that we all agreed that to achieve the level of recruitment that the club was aiming for then we'd need to make some signings before the WC. That's basically gone out of the window now.

We're not going to be able to play catch up in the time left after the WC.

Basically no one knows anything!! Which is good. We'll see who we get Woodward can not afford another window like last summer... He has his targets and he will get the majority of them. If Kroos is a priority with his current contract situation I'm sure we will complete a deal.

I can't remember us ever making signings before the World Cup so what's the worry?

When we sign a player it's nothing to do with Woodward. When we miss out on a target, it's obviously to do with Woodward.

He has to have a good window this time. He is making a rod for his own back. He should go about his business quietly. The number of good sources citing the same players on our hit list indicates that Woodward or a close aide have been talking to the press a lot.

In my opinion there was definitely something in the Kroos deal. It is likely that Kroos was using us a a negotiating tool for his desired contract and perhaps there is a slight chance that he did want the move. We had Moyes sat with his agent and Kroos was asked the question in interviews himself, he always allowed the story to rumble on.

I think what he said yesterday is reactive. If he has to stay at Bayern for another year at least then he needs to save face in front of the fans, add to that United claiming that he is now unwanted. I think that both parties were looking at saving face for what looks like a botched plan on both sides.

Reputable journalists report what they are told by knowledgeable sources. That does not mean that the information is cast iron. A transfer can change direction several times in a day when several parties are trying to capture a highly valuable commodity like a footballer. The deal makers for each club are always going to be bullish and 'confident' about making a deal. People at that level of salesmanship and brokering have to be.

Erm LVG has already given Woodward his list of players he wants and doesn't want. There is no "double jobbing" mate.

Its funny how players always release these statements AFTER the saga is over.

Reading the meltdown over the last few pages you'd think Fabregas and Kroos were the only two midfielder's in the world.

To be fair, they are the two best slightly realistic options out there.

I see Clasie being mentioned a lot. Is there anything to suggest we are in for him or is it simply because he's Dutch?

It's fecking May. The season is only finished a week.

Chill out!

Did Thiago not say we never formally made an offer? Not denying we were in for Kroos. We obviously were- but journos were saying it was almost done when it never was.

His Dad said that alright, but an "agreement in principle" can be made well before the transfer window opens & it seems its reared its ugly head with Kroos also.. Same thing happened with Garay & Strootman too - Moyes didnt folow through & make the offer to buy any of those three.

To be honest man, you never know whats went on with these things, but its always up to you to make your own judgements. I heard about those deals that were vetoed by Moyes by many sources - moreso after Moyes was sacked. There was nothing to gain by that info coming out then, apart from the seeming fact that the press didnt want to get him sacked by saying anything while he was doing the impossible job..

It's early doors. I don't think we immediately need 2 or 3 of the worlds top midfielders, nor should we even start thinking that it's going to happen.

CM has been such a shambles I'd take a couple of fit midfielders that can actually run. Set your standards low in life and you'll never be disappointed!

They supposedly shared lists & drew up a compromise - moreso in LvG's favour. Shaw wasnt on LvG's list as far as i know & he may well drop that deal dead in the water also. Van Gaal also said that he wont have any problem doing both jobs during the World Cup - thats impossible & annoying if you're Dutch!

To be fair, they are the two best slightly realistic options out there.

I see Clasie being mentioned a lot. Is there anything to suggest we are in for him or is it simply because he's Dutch?

It's cause he's Dutch. He's been more strongly linked with Swansea. Make of that what you will.

Mate nobody really has any idea who was on Van Gaals mythical list. Unless you're confident Jamie Jackson has any idea what is going on at the club, in which case Shaw was at number 1.

It annoys me that we're linked with all these players in the Dutch national team, when most of them i'd never heard of - nevermind seen them play. I'd never heard of Buttner until we were on the verge of signing him & he isnt even an adequate LB back-up.

The Dutch league may have a few gems that can be unearthed of course, but we need established players this summer & give the youth within the ranks a chance - not talkin a punt of an average foreign lad with potential - we have United potential already!

I already said that i did an Ouiija board & Tarot cards the other night & Shaw was not mentioned as part of LvG's list.. He'd more chance of being on Schindlers list goin from what the other-side pointed out!
