We'd need two/three CMs this summer if we let him go, can't see that happening.
We need 2 anyways, as none of the current ones are good enough to start. Cleverley and Carrick and then Fletcher would be enough for cover too as we won't have a need to rotate much either, with no european football.

We already need two. Fellaini isn't good enough. Van Gaal is going to want to play two touch football with a lot of emphasis on dominating the ball and attacking with speed. Fellaini can't play that way. Right now we have Anderson, Cleverley, Carrick, Fletcher and Fellaini. We are already overloaded in centre midfield, just not with world class talent. Even if we only buy one centre midfielder, without European football, there will still be too many centre midfielders in our squad. Sales are going to be necessary and, for me, Fellaini should be the first out of the door when it comes to trimming the squad.

You would rather keep Anderson over Fellaini? What has the former shown for him to be given more chances? Isn't 7 years enough time?

When fit Anderson is more mobile and has much better first touch and control than Fellaini, which suits the Van Gaal system better. Everyone defending Fellaini is ignoring the fact that his strengths don't suit the football we play at this club, and Van Gaal's style is like a hyper technical version of that. It would be like asking Andy Carroll to be a ball to feet striker and expect him to thrive. With all the good will in the world Fellaini simply isn't technical enough to play for Louis Van Gaal.

Anyone still supporting Ando to produce needs their head checked, Fellaini is a far more proven player, Ando's style may be more "United", but he's clearly below Fellaini who is a full fledged experienced international.

Fit and on form Anderson, which he should for like a month in the first half of Fergie's last season, is our best midfielder... The problem was he always got injured so he couldn't evevr pick up form or get a run of games. Fellaini's is just a bit crap.

Proven at what? Bringing the ball down from the air on his chest. Jan Koller was also a proven international player does that mean he would be well suited to the Van Gaal system? You're ignoring what Fellaini's strengths. None of them are well suited to the Dutch way of playing football.

Proven at International level, i answered that. Furthermore, I never stated he'd be relevant to LVG's previous systems, merely that due to the fact he is 10x the player, he clearly is above Ando on the rankings.

Yep, just two season ago he was our best midfielder ahead of Carrick till is injury against Reading.

Proven at international level, what does that mean? Andy Carroll scored at Euro 2012 does that mean he's one of the world's elite strikers?

Again you're ignoring that for Belgium Fellaini has Defour and Witsel sweeping up after him, and that Belgium have Fellaini playing in the advanced role where his lack of mobility and pace doesn't matter as much.

In terms of raw talent and ability there's no way Fellaini is as good as Anderson. Anderson can dribble the ball in ways Fellaini can only dream about. Fellaini is not a Man Utd player. Anderson might never have fulfilled his potential but at least he has that potential. It would be a miracle for Fellaini to suddenly develop the close control and passing range needed for a Man Utd midfielder.

People talking about "a fit on form Anderson" are kidding themselves, and allowing their dislike of Fellaini to blind their logic.

Fiorentina don't even want Anderson, he's blown his chance to prove literally everyone wrong.
I could be wrong but he hasn't been injured either, he's just been so bad both in training and in matches that Fiorentina barely wanted to use him. What more proof do you need? If he can't make it at Fiorentina he's definitely not good enough for United.

When he was fit and on form of course he was amazing. But he's not, and hasn't been for a long time now.

There's a few players who are given so much leeway based on past performances and hope, thats how we got ourselves in the mess we're in now.

Well, I'm guessing Strootman will be one of van Gaal's main targets for the midfield area regardless of his injury, he seems to rate him very highly. I'm disappointed we've stopped pursuing Kroos though, he was my dream signing for the summer, absolute quality. I wonder if we plan on going all out for Fabregas then, it was always going to be a case of one or the other with them so maybe he views Fabregas as the more realistic option.

Fabregas and Strootman would be the making of a truly great midfield. Maybe with Carrick sat behind them in a midfield three.

If Strootman signed, he would play and Carrick wouldn't.
Strootman is a box-to-box midfielder, right? I see no reason why he would displace Carrick then. Besides, van Gaal likes to play a three man midfield so it wouldn't be unlikely to see the three of them played there, assuming we signed them

That's been doing the rounds on twitter for a couple of days and he's about the 400th person to claim it as his own!

Strootman and Fabregas partnership? Hmm....feels like muppet déjà vu.

The Rafael Hernandez guy isn't just a known bullshitter like indykalia or wahtever, he's just a journalist and basically says his opinion on the rumoured transfers, and then occasionally says things he hears. It's not like he's tancredi palmeri or someone shit like that. Not sure why people hate seeing his tweets on here.

Yeah same here. I enjoy seeing his tweets, it's nice to get opinions from people across the seas and like you say, he doesn't spout bullshit for the fun, he just gives his views.

Probably because he was promising the arrival of thiago last summer and it didn't happen
