We used to have Robert Zieler but he never played in the first team, that's the only German player I can think of.

 Read my post again... I don't think a half decent young keeper we had who made limited first team appearances as " a really good German player" ... I know we've had a few youngsters, there was another before RRZ but never got a look in, can't remember his name

I understood your post mate, it was my way of saying we haven't signed anyone good.

Was a retweet from Honigstein. It basically translates as their president referenced Ballack's demands back when he moved to Chelsea on a free when talking about Kroos.

That has to be a concern for them, had they cashed in on Ballack at the stage of his contract Kroos is at now they'd have made, what, £30m?

I hope you are right. It would be the bargain of the decade imo. A top class German midfielder from Bayern Munich signed for less money than Southamptons 18 year old left back.

At the end of the day no club has to accept a bid so him agreeing a move to us doesn't force anything. In fact without agreement with the clubs he shouldn't technically even be talking to us. However if he has his heart set on moving here and is completely unwilling to go elsewhere then we are obviously in a much better bargaining position. Do we know for sure this is the case?

Genuine question I'm posting from work so I'm not able to follow everything that's being reported.
Well the latest reported today is that the Bayern president has refused to improve on the offer put on the table for Kroos, who actually refused that offer already.

The first stumbling block has been hurdled, they wont pay him what he wants, that in essence means he wont want to stay as players such as Gotze and Muller are on almost double what he is. Essentially its saying to Kroos you have another year here if you really want the pay rise.

What is left is whether Bayern sell now and get a 25m profit on a player which can go towards strengthening depth and saving face on losing another player on a free. Considering the business of football all signs point to them selling for the money.

No other clubs are linked with him, I dont think any other clubs deemed it possible, considering we are essentially the only club in absolute desperate need of a CM it immediately put us in pole. Then we went ahead and signed LVG Kroos previous mentor at Bayern, that gave him his first tastes of first team action and a legend in Germany. Yesterday we had several reports coming through some from unreliable ITK some from the most reliable journalists. Today the final say in my eyes was Scholes picking his name and suggesting he would be the most important signing.

To me at least this is done, we have our man, like I said before, I am looking at his partners in the middle, wingers and a CB now.

MUPPET SEASON IS IN FULL SWING.

For Kroos, it makes more sense to stay at Bayern for another season and then move on a free.

I am curious about one thing.. All these papers reporting bids on Kroos or deals agreed on Fabregas etc etc… If these things are BS, as they usually are, why do clubs take so long (if at all) to come out and rubbish the reports? Is it that they consider themselves above such sources?

I often wonder why players and clubs don't sue.

To be fair Fergie tried to lure Ballack from Bayern on a free transfer in 2006. But he chose Chelsea. Almost. :(

Season ticket renewal time. Clubs want to be linked with the best players at this time. Hence why every year there is a story Wenger has £100m to spend.

A club doesn't have to confirm or deny anything. It's often clubs that are the leak. If you're negotiating with club A over a player you're quite happy if the media report you're about to bid £40m for a player in the same position from club B

Much of what we read in transfer gossip comes from somewhere. Sometimes its legit and reliable, a lot of the time it's clubs wanting to gain the upper hand in another negotiation, agents angling for improved terms for their players, etc. So you wouldn't get denials from a club when often it's in their interest to have everyone believe they've as many options open and are pursuing as many avenues as possible. Nobody wants the person they're negotiating with to know that they've everything riding on this one deal.

I remember a journalistic tweet back in January that said something to the effect of 'Kroos to United isn't about money, it is about his sincere desire to play for that club'. Later that month Felix Kroos was quoted as saying that Manchester United are his dream club. That might explain why we are the only club linked.

He was never utterly convincing at Chelsea though was he? I hope Kroos does better at United than Ballack did for Chelsea.

He was decent in his second and third season. But Ballack had the problem of playing alongside Lampard.

Ah yes, the conundrum of who would go forward. I'm not in anyway saying Ballack was a bad player, far from it. He's almost in the Veron category in this league though.

Yes he was kind of average apart from one good season under Ancelotti TBF. Much of it wasn't his fault and he never really gelled with Lampard just like Gerrard didn't for England. Anyway that's a topic for another discussion. :) Our Kroos is a full 6 years younger than Ballack was at 30, so he should have an easier time adapting. :D

He was alot better than Veron in the EPL, infact he had a couple of decent seasons without setting the world alight.

'Even if Neil Lennon had this squad of players'

Oh dear. For Moyes' sake I hope he doesn't. It'd be like going from staring in the latest Hollywood blockbuster to agreeing to Celebrity Big Brother. If he has any sense he'll stay in England or go abroad (as in not-Scotland abroad)

He was decent, but he didn't blow the league away like I expected him to. But considering he was on a free there wouldn't be much criticism of him unlike Veron.

The irony is that if he does go there he will have Champions League football.

I can't believe that Lennon would leave Celtic to go to Norwich. Maybe this shows an even bigger gulf in budgets between the 2 leagues now that the English teams finish with a min of £60m TV money.

I'm rather glad we've missed out on this bloke, don't particularly rate him and on that sort of money.. a typical Man City signing.

120k isn't a lot especially when he is free. Would have taken him rather than playing Smalling and Jones right back.

Do they really need him though? I can't see him or Zabaleta (best RB in the league) accepting a bench role

I don't rate Sagna to be honest, but I guess for City he will be backup to Zabaleta so its not an issue. So Sagna is ok with being a bench player then? I guess money talks ey.
