Well if Van Gaal didn't want them they wouldn't be signed. Pretty sure of that.

Doubt he had a comprehensive list of more than 2/3 signings anyway given his comments after taking over as i've said and the job he was doing at the time and with WC coming up.

That's what I said by approval of. They were long-time United targets. He had a list with A,B and C targets. Needless to say, none has arrived. Yet.

Even if we sign Rojo, it won't do much to help us aside from giving us another back-up.

Don't think he will be a backup, think he will start to the left of the 3 central defenders. Maybe not from the beginning, but in the long run during the season.

He would work with United scouting team along with his knowledge at that time to determine targets anyway as he and Giggs both have said they actually did.

For example Rojo would be someone United have scouted anyway rather than Van Gaal and he is meeting his specification of a left footed decent on the ball CB. Same would be the case with Shaw and Herrera.

Also, You are assuming that he wanted Shaw + Herrera + X amount of players at that time. I doubt he did, infact he probably vetoed a few deals which Moyes might have been working on. At most he might have wanted 1 more player but i doubt he wanted 5 players and wholesale changes at that point or he would have mantained the same during the WC or after taking over.

Zenit would've paid 25m€ for him in 2012 ... Such a shame that they couldn't agree on terms.

I don't mind us paying, but cash plus losing a player of Nani's quality is more cost than benefit.

Nani's quality has barely shown for United for... what, two years now? Three years? If you've got the talent but can't use it, is meaningless. If he goes, Van Gaal doesn't want him. And I can see why.

What an awful deal if true.. Why not just sell Nani? Rojo for 15m is a fair price. Nani on top of that plus United paying his wages is ridiculous.

We've been trying really hard to sell Nani for 2 years or so. The contract renewal was ridiculous.

I'm not assuming anything, I'm going on information published. It would appear you know more about the United set-up than I do. You also appear to be veering off-topic. I simply said the club haven't delivered on the players Van Gaal has asked for.

Nani's been at the club now for 7 years (I know right?) and in that time had 2 good seasons - his debut and that 10/11 season

Why on earth would we pay his wages while he plays elsewhere? We might as well just keep him. That makes zero sense, and if those are the only terms on which Sporting will deal with us, we should tell them to piss off.

If LVG plan to keep playing the 3-4-1-2 formation for the rest of the season there might not be a place for Nani in the squad. He has not the defensive attributes to play as a wing back and we are already packed upfront. Going to Sporting on loan for a season would be good chance for him to get some regular game time and find his form again.

So he can maybe play elsewhere, hopefully improve the perception regarding him and then sell him for more than we'd get now

We just absolutely suck at signing players and selling them. Absolutely suck since Woodward has stepped in (though when it comes to selling we've been pretty shit in general for a while). Woodward's attitude to transfers is be shit at negotiations, give up and then just give the club a blank cheque. If he goes out and signs Vidal, Di Maria, Blind and Rojo for the prices quoted then he's not doing great. His job is to get these players at a reasonable price for both parties, not just the opposition.

As for us selling, we just practically again tell the other team to name what they are willing to pay and accept without thinking.

Because we need Rojo more than we need Nani?

Just look at Nani last season and the season before and various other seasons too. We're better off letting him go and having a player we can make use of in return.

They've rejected an offer of 15m. We could move on to our 4/5th(?) choice i guess
or we could offer them more.
They probably wont get any of the extra money we offer or a tiny ammount
So offering them a player we dont want or need seems a pretty good idea actually.

Shaw and Herrera were players Van Gaal asked for. Rojo similarly would be too.

You are assuming that Van Gaal had some separate list of players completely as well. Except maybe obvious targets like Hummels, Robben or Schweinsteiger etc.. i doubt he had special requests outside of our scouting network and what we were anyway working on.

Haven't seen anything reported to the contrary as well. There's been reports of us wanting the whole dutch team due to his list but if we did we would have gotten almost all of them.

If he leaves the club, it will likely be for good. I doubt we're going to loan him out to a Portuguese side just so he can regain his form. If we can't go it with us, we should sell him (unless Woodward is trying to offload his wages to try and justify a big transfer).

I hate this kind of chat, it's so juvenile and basic. One season was good, one was bad. It completely ignores the natural fluctuation of form throughout a season. Nani has had a variety of good games for this club, throughout multiple seasons, and in all actuality, has proven to be a snip at a relativity paltry £14 million. The last two seasons have been a write off for a multitude of reasons, some of them his own doing.

I don't think we will pay all of Nani's wages. Probably half of them.

And waive of his loan fee.

He will still be our player and have 3 year left in his contract. So if he does well then we can get a decent fee for him better than what we can this summer.

I don't get the feeling Neville's a fan of the Glazers or Woodward. He's clever enough to take them on indirectly.

Scholes won't hold back, correct. He's already gone after Woodward a bit but I hope his next column is a verbal two-footed tackle.
Neville has always argued that the Glazers have been good for United and supported their ownership.

Who the feck cares?

No one wants to pay anything for Nani and we don't need him.

So we loan him out and pay his wages while he plays, or he dissapears of the planet again next season and we still pay his wages.
