Fellaini was always one of our first choice targets, somewhat depressingly. Andy Mitten wrote an article soon after Moyes was given the job saying he wanted to bring 2 players with him from Everton, and that the current United staff (at the time) were concerned they weren't really United standard. It was also reported widely whilst we were on tour last summer that we were waiting to return to launch a double bid for Fellaini and Baines. This idea that because it went through late then it was a panic buy is wide of the mark.

That makes the transfer even worse  fecking Moyes..

I think he was one of our targets, fkng Moyes, but we waited for a big transfer before making him a signing later on. Whether it was Moyes' idea or Woodie's I don't know but it was daft as fck.

I agree that LvG will integrate more kids into the team but we shouldn't have been in a position on Saturday that Blackett and Lingard were starting and James was on the bench along with players we want to get rid of. I know we have injuries but we should be buying more first team starters not squad players, they are squad players for a reason.
I don't think Blackett is a problem, he seems entirely ready to me, if you are to integrate youngsters playing them is the only way to do it.

I feel this year is unique, I beleive LVG did want to assess the squad before making signings in a world cup year and with the change in formation, the exodus of established players and injuries left us in the position we were in on Saturday. We make a few signings and players are back from injury and the landscape wouldve looked entirely different.

Who do they have then? Thiago, Rode, Hojbjerg, Lahm? Is Guardiola planning on playing Alaba in midfield too?

Good news if true.
Although we are light as feck in CM. Surely we have somone in the line before making decisison like that?

Herrera, Cleverley and FLetcher for 2 spots until Carrick gets back? That's not inspiring. I think we have one if we really let him go.

Why does twitter exist? Im going living in a cave im sick of too much news. Gonna go all William Hurt in The Village and lock myself away.
It's for non important people, to help them feel important. Attention seeking at it's worst.

I've never seen clubs apparently unwilling to sell yap so much about their players.
'We don't want to sell!'
'Nobody asked you if you would...'
'Look, unless you make a decent offer, you can't have him!'
'Alright...'
'Right! I know this player would be exactly what you need but for the love of god leave him alone unless you plan on making a bid! Are you making a bid?'

With Shaw, We will make him into a star, yes, but he was already well on his may to becoming one, with or without us.
I am all for buying young players on the off chance we get another Januzaj etc, but the last real star we produced was Ronaldo (yes he had a good reputation at Sporting, but nobody expected him to be what he has become)

But look at clubs today. How many youth players play for Chelsea. Terry
How many youth players play for City. Hart
How many youth players play for Liverpool. Sterling, Flannagan, Gerrard
How many at Arsenal. Gibbs, Ramsey, Wilshre, Walcott, Chamberlain
How many at United. Rafael, Evans, Jones, Smallling, Fletcher, Cleverley, Welbeck, Januzaj

I am not saying it's a bad thing that we bring our own players through, far from it, but in todays world, clubs let the smaller clubs produce them, then buy them when they are ready. That is how they are competing. This is why a lot of the players have bought haven't been given a chance from us, because it's risky business

I agree, but the more successful teams in the recent decade have had a core bunch that have come through their youth system;

Barcelona : Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Puyol, Valdes and to a lesser extent, Pique and Fabregas.

Bayern: Muller, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Alaba, Kroos (okay, this is less than I thought).

In both cases, the core of the team were from the academy that would bleed for the club. Of course, they also brought quality players in other positions to turn them into a world class club. Just look at Real Madrid - so much money spent on stars and there hasn't really been much silverware to show for it. It worked previously, but I think that was only due to Zidane (even then they still had players from their academy in Raul, Casillas, Guti, Salgado, Helguera etc).

I'm not saying that we shouldn't go out to buy stars - but we should always look to develop players from our own academy and not just let other clubs develop them and buy them once they're established.

Thta is an oversimplification. At the end of it Utd paid way over the mark and it was a panic buy. Paying over the release fee for a fairly marginal player has no excuse.

It sounds like no one told Allegri that we agreed a fee, terms with the player and took up his medical records a month or two back. He's making himself look daft, if I'm honest.

Another stupid tweet.

Obviously he's being a smug prick to get a reaction but there is some truth to that these days I'd imagine, however not when said by an oldschool guy like Beckenbauer, he meant United.

Juventus don't shut up about Vidal. Clearly waiting for us to make an offer and we still haven't done it

Agreed, I worry that with Vidal and Di Maria that Woody is playing chicken in the hope of getting them cheaper at the 11th hour.

The Italian press are constantly asking about him. It's not as if Allegri etc are coming out and giving us updates out of the blue is it?

You would like to think so, but we have needed defenders for a month and nothing has been done - so I wouldn't hold my breath. If Felliani goes then we need two midfielders and we can't even sign one.

It really is weird. Haven't seen a club bleat on about a potential transfer of their own player this much. They're either dying to get a huge pay off from his transfer or this is their weird way of trying to put pressure on Vidal to lower his wage demands.

To be fair, Juventus are probably getting asked about Vidal every other day. They are probably simply responding to questions.

Yes just like how Moyes had to deal with Rooney to Chelsea last summer

I know this isn't definitive either way, but if he starts over their new shiny toy signing, you'd have to think he might stay there.

I think Madrid will either sell him or he will lower his demands. I don't see the latter happening so he could be on his way. What you must remember is Ancelloti rates him highly and will play him irrespective of the situation with his contract.

Pretty simple to say we've answered the question several times and don't need to keep going on about it. Any chance they get, they talk about Vidal. They are dying to sell him IMO.

Ancelotti would probably play Di Maria every week if it weren't for Perez.

Feel for the guy. One hell of a manager. Goes to Chelsea and wins, gets Torres shoved on him by an idiotic owner. Then the same thing happens at PSG and Real Madrid.

I do think Barca are a massive exception. They have an amazing youth set up and it is working wonders, and I have to applaud them for that.
Bayern, to an extent, I do agree, but I think it is also a lot easier for them to bring younger players through. They could slap an 18 year old in at right back and they'd still more than likely walk the league. Dortmund are the closest thing to them, and even they are a good distance away. Bayern have the luxary to pick out the best players from that league, every season. Their closest rivals are Dortmund. Last season they took their best player, this season they took their best player, and will probably end up taking their best player next season.

What they are doing now, is sorta similar to us 15 years ago.

I am all for having a core of young players who have graduated from the youth setup, and would love to see more of it happen, but as a club, if we really want to compete, its hard to play these younger players in a string of matches as you cannot really afford to drop any points.
What we haven't really done the past few years, is buy some of the better players available, and I do think it is catching up with us.

If all they wanted was 28 mil for benatia he would be a united player by now. These tweets are doing my head in. They probably want David luiz money
