The same Chelsea that struggled last summer transfer window and ended up signing Eto'o because they JUST got a new manager then? Oh yeah, let's compare a club that's got a manager who had a year to check for his targets to ours who just finished analysing the players at his disposal. Yep, makes sense.
Good thing I didn't say we should act more like Chelsea did in last years summer window. You would have had to needlessly reply to an opinion I don't even hold. Oh, wait.

Like who?

Well Di Maria doesn't want to play for Madrid any longer and I haven't heard Vidal linked with Barça or Real for two examples...

Hazard wasn't choosing between us and them two was he?

Özil was in a similar position to Di Maria last year and we didn't get him despite offering something reportedly...Thiago the same...Sneijder...

Can we just agree that we're shit at doing transfers compared to all of our rivals please? Would make things so much easier.

I really think LvG should have gone ahead with buying Carvalho, along with Shaw and Herrera. Things would have been so much more relaxed right now.
Still enough time to hopefully get the business we want to finish done. Shame we have to start the season with few additions but LVG joining late didn't help either.

Out of all the names you mentioned, I believe there was only actual confirmation that we wanted Hazard.

Van Gaal was confirmed on 19th May 2014 (and it was obvious from the beginning of May that it was him) - what makes you think what hasn't happened in 3 months is going to happen in 2 weeks?

I'm sure all of us want us to act like Chelsea did this window but how feasible was that with us yet again getting a new manager that's known for being thorough? We were always going to make late signings this window. I'm not sure why people expected anything else. That's why I said this window of ours is better compared to Chelsea's of last year when Mourinho just arrived back at Chelsea.

What van Gaal himself said. He said there will be no further transfers until he checks out the squad to see what he needs. It's been little over a week since we've been back on tour. We were always going to make signings late.

Oh and whilst van Gaal was confirmed in May he only joined after the WC which would have further delayed any plans.

We did sign Herrera and Shaw in that period which everyone is ignoring for some reason.

I imagine there were other deals in the works as well which Van Gaal vetoed or didn't go through. Then WC put a break to things and Van Gaal when he came wanted more time.

Ok, a couple of things:

1. Im not buying he didn't provide a couple of players to Woodward that he absolutely wanted. Assessing the squad was more to do with outgoings. I know what he said - but im not buying it.

2. See point 1. Just because he didn't arrive until post the world cup doesn't mean there was no dialogue on targets etc.

What will your opinion be if we do no further business?

I don't buy for a second he rejected Kroos too. I do think Kroos was a target and then Madrid came along.

Well
1. Van Gaal said he wants to assess the squad. That would determine what he needs and who's out. He said he doesn't just buy for the sake of buying. That's a fact. You can choose not to believe him. I believe him as he's a very straightforward kinda character.

2. I will make up my mind on our window at the end of it. For now based on what van Gaal said I'm confident we will make another signing or 2

We would probably act more like Chelsea have in this transfer window. Got deals done with top players in their respective positions with little fuss.

Fabregas yes, but I thought the Diego Costa and Felippe Luiz deals took ages? That said, they still got them before the season started.

Yep. Seems as though Lou Macari thought he was our number 1 target but he chose Madrid. Not much you can do in that scenario, maybe Moyes leaving put the transfer cold for long enough for Madrid to step in. Shame really.

We better just hope we don't pick up any further injuries on Saturday, then I will be seriously worried.

Van Gaal is particular about the players he wants for his system.

He has already said we have too many #10s time and again so having worked with Kroos before it is not that impossible that he thought Kroos was best there in that role and rejected him instead of buying him for another role.

I am not sure on that either way.

Seems to me like Van Gaal did want Vermaelen and Sanchez, during the world cup. Neither of them happened due to various reasons.

We definitely wanted Vermaelen but not sure about Sanchez. Vermaelen was a tough deal because Wenger wanted to sell abroad and made sure of that by asking for a player swap deal which made no sense to us.

Sanchez wanted champions league and preferred to live in London apparently. There were rumours he rejected us because of no champions league, but I'm not really sure about that.

Given what LVG has said regarding wide players I would be surprised if we were not in for him

By all accounts we weren't after Sanchez. Wouldn't have made sense in the 3412 anyway.

I'd be happy with that, we want Vidal, we want to offload Nani and Chicharito wants to leave - all parties happy
Likewise, i think its a deal that works even though the valuation favours juventus greatly. There's no point in talking fair valuations for nani and Hernandez when a) they've had limited playing time and b) we've made it quite clear we want rid of them. I think any loss in the valuation of the players is offset by having the wages off the books.

30m + Nani and Chicharito is fair, but no doubt the club will want to hang onto Hernandez.
