Anyone else get the inkling we'd rather have Di Maria than Vidal.

All journos saying the exact same thing. We've been briefing.

I think Di Maria will be announced tomorrow.
Based on anything or just a feeling?

I'd love him here. I remember disliking him when he first joined Madrid. Just seemed like a flashy winger with no real substance, but his transformation has been fantastic. He now has a great work ethic, he's creative and he goes on some quality mazy runs. Hope it happens but I'm not expecting anything.

Really? Di Maria over arguably the best midfielder in the world who just so happens to be a player who plays in an area of the pitch that we actually need to add to?

guess you didn't see the Fellaini cameo tonight?? :D

Yes really, I rate Di Maria that high.

Yes he also tweeted about Vidal tonight saying it's a done deal for €45m plus Hernandez and another unnamed player.

Obviously he'll have plans, but I just can't see what system we'll play if we buy Di Maria. If we stick to the current 3-5-2 then the obvious positions to play him are behind the strikers, where Mata plays, in midfield, probably with Herrera, or LWB, where he'd keep our £30m LB out of the team. Out front players looks more or less set in stone so I don't see much else. So if we were thinking of changing system to, say, 433, he could play him as one of the three midfielders, which again means it's likely to be him, Herrera and Mata, or one of the wide attackers which means you either have to move RvP or Rooney.

Nice problems to have, obviously, I just don't know what it is we're planning if that is the case.

Me thinking Di Maria will be announced tomorrow is a hunch, nothing more. It just makes sense. Madrid in the country, Maria too, no other clubs in for him.

It will read like this.

Manchester United have agrees to the transfer of Angel Di Maria on a 5 year deal subject to a medical.

Fair enough.

Not saying I'd complain if we signed di Maria but given a choice between the two it'd be Vidal all day long. What we've been crying out for and for me is the best midfielder in the world. Fits any system we go with too. Mata, Januzaj, Rooney, Van Persie, Kagawa, Welbeck etc etc. It's not like we're crying out for urgent additions in the attacking department (signing di Maria would be fantastic no doubt), whereas in the center of the midfield it's quite clear a world class signing would be massive.

Pretty sure we've established that if we signed the likes of Di Maria we wouldn't necessarily be playing 3-5-2 like we are now.

LvG is just utilising the existing bunch of players to their best ability. If Di Maria comes he will play in the same position he does for Madird, not as a wing back IMO.

I think we'd see him as the no. 10 or one of the strikers in the 3-5-2, but with the 4-3-3 an eventual implementation we could see him on the wing, as that's the position our manager acknowledged him in as a great player.

Though you have to wonder, if LVG planned on signing a winger like Di Maria and playing 4-3-3, would he have really got the players used to playing 3-5-2?

I'd love to see us sign both but I don't think we have the pace in our attack. Di Maria would give us an attacking dimension that we currently don't have.

Where does Di Maria play in the current system that has been used through out preseason? I just don't see him as a wing back. So are we going to shift to 4 across the back, with Di Maria as one of the wide men. As van Gaal, said that the current system is partly due to the unbalanced squad.

Could we possibly use him as a center mid like Argentina did at the world cup, as part of a midfield 3?

I think Di Maria would be a good signing, but not at the expense of failing to strengthen at central midfield and center back.

Maybe he wasn't expecting Di Maria to become available.

I believe that the team is using both systems in training and he explains that the players needed more time with the 3-4-3 since they already are accustomed with the 4-3-3.

Lads Di Maria isn't happening, would ye stop? Just because his club were down the road for a match doesn't change a thing. He doesn't fit at all in the system LVG has planned.

Didn't see the game tonight so missed the post match interview, did LVG say anything after match on the squad or players coming in?
