We'd all love to see all the signings we need wrapped up by July 1st. But is it not reasonable to take into account that this was not possible thus Summer for rather obvious reasons? And is it not even more reasonable to stay calm when the first three games we have before the window shuts are very winnable with the team we currently have at our disposal?

You speak too much sense.

I have not faltered, I still believe big signings are en route. There are clear obvious holes in the squad.

I hope for your sake it happens, else you will become soooo skeptical in future. We have had glaring holes in the squad for a while...

After last season, nothing can ruffle my feathers man.
Nothing can be as bad as waking up after the deadline passed to find out fellaini was our only signing.

I knew then we weren't going to win shit. This year with LVG I think we'll be top four no matter what way you slice it.

The difference between us going for Caudrado and Barca is that Barca have already sold high profile players in Sanchez and Fabregas and have got Rakitic, Vermearlen and Saurez to name a few. Caudrado is a luxury for them and one they will end up getting whilst we scrape the barrel for whatever player we decide isnt too injured/expensive/old/young its a joke an utter joke.
...as big a joke as coming on here and announcing that we will be signing *insert WC players name* next week. For someone so ITK as you, to come back and call the club an utter joke....well, we must be fecked then!!

Fine keep the fans who have just forked out hundreds of pounds happy. Since his fmaous "watch this space" interview weve been patiently waiting and so far I have not been hanging onto those words to only see Blind and Rojo be linked concretely with us.
If anything I think Woodward is champing at the bit to make signings but LVG is taking his time (as is his prerogative).

Completely agree. Woodward knows he's got to prove his metal and that he'll get more stick that van Gaal if we don't sign anyone else, regardless of the reality.

We could not. Wenger was never going to sell him to us. Once it was clear he was for sale Barca were always favourites

In that case, why bother going for him to begin with?

Another annoyance with our transfer policy. Going after targets that are clearly never in a million years going to sign for us.

Part of the frustration in the inactivity is not knowing whether it's down to Woodward trying to do a Levy on it and in the process damaging our chances, or LVG not having decided what he wants to do yet, or most worryingly, that they think we don't need much more to compete. It looks to me very much like we gambled on getting at least one of Hummels and Vermaelen and now we're really on the back foot. When you think how many top sides would like a centre half we're coming to the stage where we'll end up really overpaying for one just so we don't go into the season as light as we are at present.

Spot on mate.

If we gambled that hummels was coming here then that is horrible planning, he never was going to come here.
Benatia is available who can do the job, but who knows if LVG rates him or he only wants a left footer.

That coming from Jan Hagen, who not too long ago was being poked fun of for perhaps over-rating nearly every Liga player linked with a move abroad.

This. And that this summer was sold to us as being the summer where the squad was rebuilt and invested in, and supposedly the reason for Moyes' sacking was that he couldn't be trusted with this where as van Gaal and Woody can. But we've seen no evidence of this, and the 2 signings we have had were actually set up by Moyes in the first place.

I'd be happy with just another center back at this stage, but I'm not even holding my breath for that now. Without it's going to be another worrying season.

We've got ourselves a poorly rated defender! Yipppeeee!

Seriously: Hopefully he turns out to be a good buy (if true of course), I will be backing Marcos Red to be a success.

We could've wrapped up Vermaelen long before Barça got a chance.
Rubbish. It's not like we could have kidnapped him without protest from Arsenal or without Barca getting wind of it.

And that's all your butt hurt about? Us delaying over a player we didn't really delay ever at all - and one who has been injured all Summer, meaning he's not ready to play no matter how early he was signed!

Give yourself a slap.

Much rather him than Vermaelaen any day of the week.
We dodged a real bullet there.

Me too! I'm only saying poorly rated due to what Che and Jan have said, I know nothing about him and didn't really pay him any attention during the WC (where he was good, some say).

Roughly the same price as Thomas too, and not injured.

Pretty sure it's €30m

I think prior to the WC they spoke about him on the Guardian podcast and they seemed to think it was a surprise that he was picked as he wasn't highly rated. He looked reasonably decent in the WC but I didn't think he looked anything special, though it does seem that he plays at CB regularly so he might not have been in his favoured position.
