Better value signing than Blind and much better value than Vermaelen.

Would assume he'll play mostly at LCB, and act as cover for Shaw on the wings.

Now all we need is Benatia to sit between Smalling and Rojo

If Buttner were Argentinian, do you think he'd get anywhere near their squad, let alone be their starting left back?

I don't know really. I only watched him a couple of times in the WC and he looked okay at LB. Certainly better going forward like those modern LBs do I thought

You are an avid watcher of the Portugese league? How do you rate Rojo as a LB and CB?

Yes mate. I´m portuguese and a Sporting season ticket owner. I expressed my opinion of him in the Rojo thread. I don´t want to off topic in the twitter thread mate.

Short version? Yay, Nay or Okay?

I dunno, any player that does a rabona clearance in their own box in the world cup is a bit suspect to me.
Faith in LVG I guess.

:lol: Man this can't go wrong in anyway haha

Let's be honest, he's not going to play much as a left wing back for us in a 3-5-2. Realistically it would be as a centre back in the current system or possibly left back if we were to switch to 4-3-3 in the future.

Think so?

Definitely. Having seen a fair bit of Blind for Ajax and for Holland he's nowhere near worth the £15-20m Ajax will probably ask for him. He's poor at centreback and too slow to be an effective wing back. Midfield he'd do a job but not a great one, I don't even think he'd be ahead of Fletcher there tbh.

Obviously he'd be good to have as a back up for several positions, but I wouldn't want to spend that much on someone who would only ever be a back up.

Fixed.

Just kidding. I thought the same thing when I saw the game & instantly decided that he must be a complete and utter liability.
Now that we may be signing him I have decided to try and look at it as a positive (not easy).

Yay as CB (for Sporting) and i have to be realistic Nay as LB for us. But he has been good as LB for Argentina though

Good enough for me! :)

Some people are moaning (on twitter) that this might mean we don't sign Blind, I could still see him coming to give us more options at the left and an extra body in midfield.

One concern is his complete one footedness. If he's pressed and forced onto his right i possession it could be calamitous.

@Sly How would you rate him.in terms of being comfortable on the ball and distribution? He looked decent from that POVat the world cup I thought given that LB wasn't his natural role.

Haven't seen much of Rojo but from what most have said he doesn't sound good enough for a top club and most were quite surprised he was in the Argentina squad.

I'd rather just promote Blackett then sign someone who wouldn't be a serious upgrade.

Not his main attribute but he can hold his own. You will win a big threat in offensive set piece though (Vidic style)

Well, I for one welcome a transfer move for Rojo. On the strength that we need bodies to cover the holes in the squad. If he's average he can always be replaced when Hummels becomes available!

"Closing in", "agreeing a deal with....", "verbal agreement".

You'd think half of these sources were a fly on the wall with their by-the-second coverage of a private alleged meeting.
I'm not convinced until it says we're preparing a bid

Not really seen enough of him to comment. But I would take almost anyone over the injure prone Vermaelan

I'm pretty we're just "monitoring" the situation, we love doing that as much preparing our bids.

Arturo Vidal shown here waiting for United to complete their preparation and monitoring stage to bring him to Old Trafford

I have no idea what is going on with the Cuadrado transfer. I can only imagine the Chuckle brothers are handling the deal.

To me, to you, to me, to you.
