If we are not even in the running for any players, the manager would've come out and said that business are done. We definitely are looking to strengthen, it may not satisfy your fantasy or might fall through but we can only wait and watch. The conviction that we are done with a couple of weeks still to go is a bit strange.

You've never been a top team in terms of transfers.

That's not true though, is it?

Until the Sugar Daddy era we were easily the most attractive option in the country for players, and arguably one of the most attractive in Europe, barring the obvious pulling power of Real and Barca.

United hasn't really struggled attracting the British/English players out there, but the foreigners outside of the Premier League, they've missed out for one reason or another.

Especially given LVG's late start to life as United manager. Still being in the World Cup until the penultimate day and then having an extra day in the US to play the final of that friendly cup didn't help matters. I do think we will do business late on in the window but also agree that it might not be the muppet signings we all hope for.

This continued self proclamation of being the biggest club in the world is irritating. Sure, as a commercial business but as a football team we are far from it. Gone are the days where players want play for a club with history - it's money and lifestyle these guys prioritise.

It's simple - Woodward needs to keep his mouth shut about what we can apparently spend because all he's doing is making himself out to be either a liar or incompetent. It's time we faced facts and realised we do not shop in the same market as Barca, Madrid, city, Chelsea. We are in the 2nd tier - and I'm ok with that. I just wish the hypocrisy from the club would stop.

I wouldn't class either City or Chelsea as top tier either tbh, players will stick pick us over them providing we're willing to compete

That's the point. Outside of England, there are stronger teams with more pulling power. Even in England, you compete against Chelsea (and City behind it and Pool somewhere as well)

Big difference between us and other top clubs. We talk a big game but don't prove it. The likes of Bayern, Madrid ect....don't have to say anything because they just do it.

So when United purchased Veron was that an exception to the never? Top class player & a top level fee!
I'd say United have missed out on a few world class players due to location, not fees nor wages or effort.

Can't agree that we can compete with Chelsea. The top foreign players would prefer to live in London unless they were a diehard United fan.

I agree. We need to sack dreary, wet and grey Manchester and move to London. London United. Everyone would jump at the chance to join "us".

That's not what I'm saying but it's a reason why we've missed out on the top foreign players in recent years, had Chelsea not have been bought from Abramovich we would have signed more top foreigners.

I know you weren't saying that. But I was kinda agreeing with you ;) (and am awaiting the outrage)

Maybe we have to sell before we can buy, it wouldn't surprised me. People forget sometimes including myself who we're owned by. We are never going to "break transfer records" with them parasites in charge

Agree, it's too late now, well done Woody.

I said this a month ago and got shot down, but if we buy players now, our title chances could be over by the time players are in and bedded into the team.
 Pull yourself together you lot. Christ.

This is nonsense. Even without any signings we could easily go the first 8 games unbeaten. If we do get a player or 2 in by the end of the window, there's plenty of time for them to bed in to the team.

Indeed.
I wouldn't expect any new signings to play the first 2 or 3 games anyway, since they would need to train for the system/philosophy.
