If we really are after Cuardado AND Vidal, this will be one expensive summer.

I'm a wee bit skeptical whether we're actually in for both :(

Not sure how I feel about Cuadrado to be honest, if he's just displacing Rafael as the RWB. Think we have more pressing needs. A LWB would make more sense for me.

We just bought a 30mil left back.

I hope to god that we're not in for Cuadrado, such an average player and I can't see why on earth people think he's going to make a good wingback. If you want to pay that much, get in a specialist wingback. Even as a winger he's not worth that fee. A few good World Cup games doesn't change that.

Typical from some one who hasn't seen a single Fiorentina game last season.

Yeah, but he's also just 19 years old and the only one we really have. I'm not really buying Young as a LWB until I see it. At RWB we have Rafael, Valencia and Young. That, to me, seems like a better selection than Shaw, Young and James.

Expensive yes but warranted. I'd say that Cuardado would be a bonus but not as necessary as Vidal so I'm also skeptical.
This club does not spend huge especially not in a single window but then the team is not brilliant and when you lose a lot of experience in one go it does require a rebuild of some extent.
Also being us we tend to pay over the odds given how huge we are financially and how desperate we now are to get back to the top. Moyes was terrible but so was half the squad, most ex pros even Scholes seem to think we needed to buy four or five players to compete again. At the moment two in only and one of them has replaced our two left backs from last year so I'd say even without CL games this year our current squad with no further additions may struggle again.

Good news if we can get ourselves another CB. Benatia preferably.
Too late for that imo. Roma are really on the up and don't think they will mess around with the team this late. Only a huge offer will make them consider.

Erm enlighten us then? How many times did you watch him for fiorentina? Let me guess you're an avid follower of la viola right? And a few crappy YouTube comps obviously aren't behind what you're saying right?

I didn't call him world class. Did I? Cuadrado is ok, can play wingback and is very skillful. He doesn't pass enough and self centered in his game which is something I would worry about and a probable reason for not wanting him. But, I wouldn't call him bang average considering his performance in Serie A last season which is widely respected.

So who now then? Hummels is a no go, I don't believe we'll spend the sort of money being spoke about for that Roma lad who I've never watched so I can't comment on.

Despite Michael Keane and Tyler Blackett having decent tours, I wouldn't be comfortable if we ended August with just them two as back up to the 3 sick notes we already have as first choice.

Wow now that's an inconsiderate swap proposal. Feck Wenger, we'll be better off with Benatia, and if not Benatia I wouldn't mind seeing Blackett being given a chance.
Wouldn't say it's that outrageous if they rate Vermaelen at 15 million. That's about how I'd value Smalling as well. We bought him for 12 million, he's now 24, almost 25, closer to his ceiling and not quite the player we'd hoped he'd be by now. Still satisfied we turned them down, though.

Roma would sell Benatia for 30 million pounds or around, imo.

But we wanted Vermaelent to play LCB presumably. Benatia will be a center or right of the 3 signing as i said above.

I never said you said he was world class but if you're gonna be a little smart arse about it, care to tell me a match where he's played wing back for fiorentina? You have seen him play for fiorentina right?

Otherwise it would just mean that you were talking out of your arse in your original response to me.

If we have no one else to come in then this is slightly more worrying. We need another defender. I'd take Vermaelen over no one.

Lets hope we can convince Roma or find someone else, quickly!

I'm with you there, most people moaned about Vermaelens sick record when we have three who seem to have been injured a lot in last couple of seasons. Keane has probably had the most experience out on loan but Blackett looked the better player to me. However the tour is one thing, week in week out in the premiership completely different and I'd say its too early for both to step up should one of the other three be injured long term.
Well I guess we must trust LvG but with three and a half weeks to deadline the closer we get the more worried I will be especially if we do not plug the midfield.

He played as WB in Udinese, thus the use of the word 'can'.

I am so glad we are out of the race for Vermaelen. If we sign a CB, it better be of the quality and age group of Hummels & Benatia or we give youth a chance.

So he hasn't played there for fiorentina then has he? Your original response to me asking why people thought he could play wingback was saying that I obviously hadn't seen him for fiorentina, that implies what exactly?

Btw nice googling, next time actually watch the player before making a comment like "spoken like someone who obviously hasn't seen him play for fiorentina last season".

Juve and Manchester are playing poker. Both parties want the best possible deal of course. Just a matter of time before Vidal poses in red.

One injury to Jones, Evans or Smalling and our back ups are Blackett and Keane, doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
