He has screwed up cause we missed on Vermaelen? I dont think so, quite the contrary, I'm glad we wont buy him.
And how do you know he was on LVG's list?

At this stage you'd have to assume that the players we're going after are targets of LVG, otherwise I'm not sure what the crap is going on.

So the muppets are happy that United lose out on a player to Barca? It's funny that they have so little respect for Van Gaal. If he wanted the player then you'd have to trust in him. But no, they want sexier much much more expensive signings. If Van Gaal turned to Ron Vlaar now they'd get into a right state!

I can only speak for myself, but I'd prefer Vlaar. Vermaelen has always been garbage and he's an absolute sick note.

Barca were reportedly in first, our interest delayed it being finalised. That's one transfer I wouldn't blame Woody for messing up on.

The links with Vermaelen and us go back to May and Vermaelen was only option B for Barcelona, in case they don't get Marquinhios. Just look into the whole Vermaelen story and you'll find reliable papers saying we've agreed terms with him for months and that Arsenal stalling tactic seem to have worked.

Why I know he was on the list? Because Ducker and other reliable journalists said it. Would also be fitting with the time LVG was appointed and for how long personal terms have been agreed.

Who's saying we lost out on Vermaelen?

Vermaelen is bit of a risk anyway. The reason LvG wants him because he's left footed, PL proven ( is he?), and can play as sweeper which is very crucial in 3 CBs system. Not that I don't trust van Gaal but he might thinking the same, the like of Hummel, Thiago Silva, Cheilini are next to unattainable and Vermaelen is all you could wish for, doesn't mean he's right man.

Well reliable journos said lots of things. But if it's true we can't blame woordward if Arsenal didnt want to sell him to us.
In any case he's injury prone so it's probably a good thing we avoided him.

Barca are truly dubious when it comes to buying defenders the past few years. Off the top of my head I remember the crock Gabriel Milito, Caceres, Chygryinsky, Mathieu and now Vermaelan potentially. Wonder what goes on in their scouting department.

Pep 'I need a good centre back'
President 'Nah you can have Sanchez'

Martino 'I need a good centre back'
President 'Nah you can have Neymar'

Enrique 'I need a good centre back'
President 'Hmm fine you can have Suarez and we could only find Mathieu and Vermaelan'

:wenger:

Yes I did, and the reports quite clearly state from MD and Cat Radio that we pulled the plug on the deal.

Your splitting hairs Adnan. Pulled the plug for a reason or being beaten to the player, is still losing out.

Edit: Especially when one of the reasons we pulled out was because Arsenal didn't want to sell to another EPL team.

Yeah, I bet Arsenal loved selling RvP to us. Woodward so far has talked the talk but not backed it up with any actions. I think he would've been a good player for a decent fee. Of course I'd rather have Benatia, but I don't believe that Woodward can pull that one off.

LvG said he wants new defenders and the 2 we've been linked with since LvG arrival have been De Vrij and Vermaelen, one already joined Lazio, the other on the verge of joining Barcelona.

The opinion in Barcelona is we pulled out due to another target being made available.
Make sense, Di Marzio tweeted that Benatia is available and we might be interested. I guess maybe that's the reason we "pulled the plug"

Wasn't it about 35 mil euros which equates to 27 million pounds which is a steal for a supposed quality defender in this inflated transfer market. Is he a good ball playing defender though? Haven't watched much of him

Very good on the ball and quick

Sorry can't help you with that, I have no idea how good he is etc

Benatia would be a dream but I can't see us bringing him in. Even City baulked at the prices Roma were touting so I'll be extremely surprised if he a) comes to us and b) comes for anything less than £35m.

Chatting absolute shit. Wenger doesn't want to sell Vermaelen to a team in the PL, especially not United. They were holding out for another club to bid for him.

Yeah, but they gladly sold RvP to us, haven't they? Suprised how many guys seem to defend Woodward and his work. Do you guys believe that Woodward would've been able to close the RvP deal?

De Vrij said there was never any interest in him from United, wether you want to believe that or not is another story. As TV, he hasnt signed for anyone yet? Even so its not Woodwards fault. Arsenal didnt have a host of potential buyers for Van Persie, and more importantly, Van Persie really wanted to come to United. Unless you forget, it was Fergy himself who negotiated the deal for RVP with Wenger. Do you remember that?

Maybe not but the RvP deal only went through after Fergie phoned Wenger.

Seems like TV wants to come here quite badly too. Fergie just helped with the negotiations as Wenger didn't want to sell, but it was a good sum for a player nearly 29 having a history of long term injuries. I think even with Fergies help, Woodward wouldn't be bold enough to sanction such a transfer. Di Marzio reported that United and Dortmund were both interested, but simply too late, as he already agreed to join Lazio.

Most reliable source on Barcelona transfers is rac1, not catradio. They are not infallible in any way but they are usually ahead of everybody else, including MD, Sport, SER, Cope, etc. They've said nothing on Vermalen deal being done or even close, just talked about interest in the player.
