Yep, he's even going to re-do Nelson's.

Right lads (and ladies). If we sign Cuadrado and Di Maria, and Vermicelli, and Vidal. How do we line up next season? Does the 3-4-1-2 get quickly scrapped for the 4-3-3? If so, how do we shape up/who plays where?

I can see us safely getting either Cuadrado or Di maria but not both.

Cuadrado, Vermaelen and Schweinsteiger would be a incredible window. along with hererra and shaw we would instantly have the quality to be back into the top 4 and challenge for the title again. Whilst it is somewhat of a band aid fix to sign Vermaelen and Schweinsteiger, the latter would be a phenomenal coup.

Bastian is just a sweet dream. An absolute leader on and off the pitch, capable of playing as a defensive midfielder and is genuinely world class - especially in the big games. No way would Bayern let him go. Could maybe have happened if he/Germany had an average WC and Kroos signed a new contract, but it just wasn't the case.

Maybe I'm being greedy but I dont see two stop gap signings in key positions (where we have been significantly depleted) as being an incredible window; if anything it suggests we failed with our main targets.

Was thinking the same after going over the question again.

Was going to post a few thoughts, but it'll probably be a bit too long and could go somewhat off-topic for this thread.

If money truly was no object, get both and the wings will be sorted for a very long time...both are very versatile players can can play a variety of positions.
Having said that, even after all Woodie's interview, I would not hold my breath waiting for that to happen :)

If they try to sell us vermicelli, I'd look under the sauce.

Is that his nickname now?

It's not the money so much, it's where we'd play them I was having an issue with. Can't see us signing both anyway. Unless we do stick to 3-4-1-2 play Cuadrado as the RWB and put Di Maria alongside Herrera through the middle, but then would mean no Vidal.

Trying to fit all four of them names into the team in a 4-3-3 is a lot easier:

De Gea
Cuadrado(Rafael/Valencia) - Jones(Smalling/Keane) - Evans(Vermaelen/Blackett) - Shaw(James)
Herrera(Carrick) --------- Vidal(Fletcher/Cleverley)
Mata(Kagawa)
Rooney(Zaha/Lingard) - RVP(Welbeck/Wilson) - Di Maria(Januzaj/Lawrence)
Looks like a hell of a team on paper, not sure how well that would work though.

Would Van Gaal like to switch to 4-3-3 so quickly after putting so much effort and practice into the 3-4-1-2 system? Too many questions! :)

If he's reliable then -

Guess, Woodward has gone on holiday after completing these deals. :p

Ha, sorry I should have phrased that differently. He's 'reliable' in what he posts on the sanc as i dont believe he wum's there...although i may just not get his sense of humour.

anything he posts on twitter is a definate wind up, especially when he says 'you heard it here first'. It just happens the holiday tweet was word for word what he posted on RI therefore i felt would be 'reliable' in that it isnt a wind up.

but maybe it is, feck knows who cares

Blind, Vermaelen, Vidal + Cuadrado/di Maria? What a summer that would be.

Why did Wenger publicly make such statement?" I would rather sell him abroad" " you'll find out soon" So it's either:
- he wants more bidder
- deal done. Vermaelen is coming to United( which is likely IMO ) . The whole" I don't strengthen rival club" is overrated anyway, he's sold half dozen of his players to City.

Not forgetting Ander and Shaw!

If we end up with Shaw, Herrera, Vermaelen and Vidal along with Kagawa staying I'd be delighted. Anyone else would be a bonus. How happy we will be about this summer will depend on getting that one top level player in, hopefully Vidal. I've maintained all along that I'll think we'll get him and I'm normally one of the more sceptical muppets.

Only thing i'd change is that Rooney probably would play left, Di Maria right. Kinda like Robben/Ribery does it, winger able to cut in while FBs stretch the field wide and run past the winger to attempt crosses and stretch the defense.

And as i wrote in another post here: I think LvG will work towards playing 4-3-3, but it'd most likely be too many changes to cope with in one summer, why i think he'll play the 3-5-2 to utilize what we currently have, while he brings in players that he knows will fit his style of play moving forward.

In regards to @RedBistro's team, it's extremely unbalanced. Cuadrado at right back (??) with only 2 midfielders, neither of which is a holding player and Rooney playing out wide? Doesn't do it for me.

Thing is, we're just not going to sign Di Maria so there's not much point shoe-horning him into potential lineups.

I think Rojo would be a good signing for us as competition for Shaw. Am I right in saying he's capable of playing centre-back also?
I believe it's the other way round, naturally a CB with the capability of playing LB.

The last few big exclusives from Duncan Wright include Lampard extending his contract at Chelsea, Ashley Cole to Liverpool and Pochettino's move to Spurs being in jeopardy.

You don't any of that, you could just say that Dailystar is full of shit and everyone would agree.

Other way round, he's played centre back all season. Not really sold on him though and think he looked more impressive at left back with Argentina. He's not a top level footballer, think he'll be at Southampton come September anyway.

Good point. It's up to player now.

 I remember when this guy (or someone else at Sporting) was saying how we'd have to meet his £37m release clause to get him when we were linked with him.

Pretty sure neither Jan, nor anyone from Sporting claimed we'd matched his release clause, it was a story posted by Zero Zero (who're usually rather reliable, since they rarely run made up rumours), later to be shot down by Sporting during a press conference.
