The James signing is very similar to last season's pursuit of Bale. It's all about Madrid, Monoco don't have to sell at all and probably never had a mind to sell him at any price. But the sheer virtue of them doing business with Madrid has raised their status in world football "look at us, we're playing hard ball with Madrid over a young superstar"

It's so similar to the "barca got neymar, we need to outdo them" of last season except now it's suarez and James. I wouldn't be surprised if next summer we see them chase down Januzaj and Barca go in for whatever young talent is smashing it at the moment. If we look now at the young "up and comers" we can probably see who'll they'll go for.

In my books I think it will be Januzaj and Ryan Gauld

Too soon for them to go for Januzaj. I can see Madrid going for Hazard next season.

Does anyone know if Mercado Ingles is reliable? He has said some interesting things on Vidal.

They can't get anymore unless they sacrifice one of Ronaldo, Bale or James (if they get him). Already Di Maria and Isco look to be sidelined

The situation in Ukraine has probably given them a good excuse to try and force a move elsewhere.

Yeah a great excuse.

You know, all the political unrest, innocent people being killed and what not. Typical bloody soft footballer opportunists.

James Rodriguez boarding a plane to Madrid supposedly

Think he's just a man boy in the Rooney mould. That's what's helped him breakthrough so easily at such a young age.

QUOTE="Kill 'em all, post: 16096763, member: 68809"]I think he's always been a bit stocky and this increased as he got older and for a defender that's not a bad thing unless you overdo it.

At least it's not fat! :)[/QUOTE]

Barcelona signing Suarez is going to be great for them in an extra way now, with Madrid getting rid of much better players for James Rodriguez just so that on the surface they appear to be as strong and influential in the market.

The ego of Perez and Real Madrid knows no bounds.

A big exaggeration there.

I hope he's right.

I remember around the time he was appointed, Ronald De Boer said van Gaal will know within a week of seeing people training who will fit in with his plans and who won't.

If the story is true that he wants to operate with around 22 senior players, the clearout will be pretty big between now and the end of August. It is certainly needed.

Real Madrid are a collection of the most marketable footballers, they've been that way for years. It's all about image for them.

To be fair, he only had a day of work with them before jetting off to the US. Give him a week and he'll know who to get rid of.

Why is there an automatic assumption that CEOs and directors of football clubs don't know about football?

It stems from the fact he is not a normal fan and our owners are american. What we forget is that they are businessmen and every businessman knows his business inside out. Assuming that they know nothing about the club is a bit stupid.
