I remember around the time he was appointed, Ronald De Boer said van Gaal will know within a week of seeing people training who will fit in with his plans and who won't.

If the story is true that he wants to operate with around 22 senior players, the clearout will be pretty big between now and the end of August. It is certainly needed.
I really don't think the clear out we all want is going to happen. We've only managed to sell Buttner so far. Even the bebe transfer which was 'close' for weeks hasn't gone through. As of right now we have a squad of 38 players. I do t see us managing to get rid of that many players. Woodward said in the earnings call that he expects our wage bill to rise again next year, now if he really thought we would go from 38 to around 25, I can't see why he'd forecast that rise.

We've stocked pilled players in the name of squad depth for far too long, to the detriment of our team, just look at the size of squads the likes of Madrid work with and then look at ours.

You've forgot Vidic and Ferdinand leaving. After Evra and Bebe's transfers go through that's 5 less, including Buttner. Nani will most likely depart at some point and then the likes of Hernandez, Anderson, Young (hopefully) will likely leave too.

I'd be pretty pissed off if Arsenal sign Carvahlo for less then his buy-out clause and we don't sign Vidal.

Im the same, i cant believe how many midfielders we have not tried to sign when they would clearly improve on what we have. We seem to pass up very good players because they are not good enough for us and we want the top players that we have been struggling to get of late.

No I haven't. We have a current squad of 39 players not including vidic, rio, giggs, macheda and buttner who have already left. Check on Wikipedia or our official site, it's a hugely bloated squad. Which has been nothing but detrimental to us in so many ways.

Fair point, players do usually come out by this point and say "I am fully committed to ... leaving never crossed my mind, I am at a big club I want to stay here and win trophies ... showed an interest but even so I wanted to stay at ..."

I don't think this Alex Shaw is any different to that Alistair Ferguson who was clowning around on Twitter last summer.

I'm pretty sure I have seen that photo before - think it is just him getting on a plane in the past. I may be wrong though.

I'm not sure if that image is an old one or not - reverse image searching on Google doesn't really help, however, you may have seen George Thorne signing for Derby over the last couple of days wearing the same T-shirt:

I think I can tell the difference between George Thorne and James Rodriguez . I think I saw the photo last night, so maybe it was actually him going to Madrid. The photo is pretty unhelpful in terms of showing where he is and what he is doing.

Nedved (Juventus director): "Certainly, if there was a high bid [for Vidal], we would have to think about it." [via Gazzetta dell Sport]

El Mercurio have said we've bid about four times now.

Okay here's a translation:

Chilean paper El Mercurio have produced a fresh Arturo Vidal article on Sunday linking the Juve man to Man United, again.

Labelling Vidal as the “obsession” of the Red Devils, the word of the Chilean street is that Manchester United are ready to offer a massive offer to get the player to Old Trafford.

Vidal himself is set to be presented with the same $18m-a-year salary as Robin van Persie, while United will offer Juventus $67m for the midfielder.

El Mercurio do however insert one caveat into their article, saying United’s offer are contingent on Vidal’s knee proving 100% fit. Put another way, there is a sense in the South American press that all is not right with Vidal, after the player needed to miss some of the World Cup with an injury.

Away from the details of the article, perhaps the most damning indictment that suggests El Mercurio don’t quite belie Vidal is moving to United is the fact that this story was printed on page 12 of their Sunday edition.

Just saying it may be the T that sparked something in your memory that's all!

Is that a recent quote?

To be honest I think that the quote has massively been taken out of context:

"Anyone who thinks Antonio Conte resigned due to the transfer strategy is wrong. Our plan is clear: we want to keep all our best players, including Vidal and Pogba.

"We don't want to sell anyone, especially not Vidal. Of course, if a particularly high offer arrived then we'd have to think about it, but we don't want to sell our champions.

"We want to be competitive in the Champions League and the only sales will be players who are not part of our plans."

It is recent though, as he mentions Conte's resignation.

Fm legend alert!

The new Riquelme? Interesting times at Roma.

Nedved just said they weren't selling any of their top players the other day, I definitely feel Juve will sell if we don't try to short change them.
