Pep was Barca's B team manager before he got promoted, so he had a good experience of management & making the decisions etc. Giggsy has had only 4 games in management & time will tell if being LvG's assistant will be adequate enough to be our manager after LvG's contract runs out.

If Van Gaal is successful during his time here, he should be offered an extension. It would be crazy not to & just hand the keys to Giggsy..

Time will tell though..
Giggs will still be an L plate manager by the time van Gaal leaves united whenever that comes. Frank De Boer and Pep are the obvious choices to succeed Van Gaal if he is successful.

Never know how well Ole will have done up to that point either..

Anyway, if things go very well with Van Gaal - i hope he stays beyond his contract. He's looks made for United already, so it bodes very well..

My two choices to succeed a potentially successful van Gaal are born out continuity in philosophy. I can see Giggs gravitating to what he knew under Fergie - 4-4-2, crosses, wing play etc.

I'm not a fan of Giggs becoming our next manager but it does seem likely so Van Gaal will need to show there's more to football then the way Sir Alex played and broaden his mind.

But Guardiola would be the perfect choice to replace Van Gaal or even De Boer.

Why? Rooney is way better than Cavani! I smell BS
Edit: massive BS

Rob Shepard is one of the biggest gobshites in football journalism, that daft cnut doesn't know his arse from his elbow. Anything he writes is best ignored.

Debatable.

Even so, the move still makes little sense.
Not really.
One - a leading striker of Manchester United and one of our top 3 players, the other - used to be a good striker who isn't regaining his form in a much worse league.
Even when Ibra was injured he didn't perform well.

It is debatable, he's still a good player (Cavaini) yes he's lost a bit of form, that's mainly down to being played out of position, and not being happy at his club. When Rooneys played on the wing or moved to midfield his form drops and attitude changes.
Getting the best out if him wouldn't be to hard. Still wouldn't like to see it happen though.

For every criticism there is of Cavani and his lack of legitimacy as an elite player, you can pull up just as many criticisms of Rooney.

Cavani has an excellent record, which is pretty much what most people on here use to defend Rooney and his shite performances when he plays anywhere but no.9.

Luke Shaw looks a bit big for a 19 year old. Hope he keeps his weight in check.
I think he's always been a bit stocky and this increased as he got older and for a defender that's not a bad thing unless you overdo it.

At least it's not fat! :)

Got to be honest for the amount of times I've seen him play (which is a fair bit) not really been impressed. Why would we even entertain the prospect of getting someone new or swapping him for experienced member of the squad? I just don't see the point to be honest! Anyway its obviously more paper twaddle!

Not sure to be honest.

I just paid for mutv. Currently half price for 3 months on sky - so £3 per month.

Hoping he gives us muppets some overdue material to work from. Been a quiet few days.
I was just about to post if there has been any goss, had a hectic weekend and haven't had the chance to catch up on stuff.

Calm before the storm? Hope we don't have to wait until we are back from the US before anymore business is done.

Woodward interview on mutv at 7pm tonight. Could be interesting.

Woodward excited by van Gaal arrival

Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward says new manager Louis van Gaal is leaving an "imprint" on everyone he meets at the club and believes the Dutchman's qualities made him the perfect choice for the Reds.

In an exclusive interview with MUTV, Woodward explained how he admires van Gaal's direct approach while noting his warmth as a person.

"He's got incredible energy and very importantly he likes attacking football. If you remember the Barcelona team [he managed] in the late '90s, who played incredible, attacking football, and those games we had against them in '98/99, that’s the kind of football Manchester United fans love. It’s part of our DNA," explained Woodward.

"The second part of what he likes is giving youth a chance. He’s got a track record littered with giving young players a break in the first team, who have gone on to be stars. Clearly that’s Manchester United’s philosophy and we want him to continue with that.

"I’ve personally found him very warm. He’s a very clear communicator and very direct. I like that in people; I’m a very direct person myself. He’s a stickler for planning and that’s something we as a club do very well. We plan everything in a lot of detail and that’s going to be a good fit.

"We’ve got someone who has confidence in himself about making difficult decisions and, when you boil down what makes a great manager, one of the key characteristics is making difficult decisions and we’ve clearly got a manager who can do that.

"I’m hearing a lot of good feedback from a lot of people about him and there is a huge amount of goodwill towards him and the coaching

staff," added Woodward. "Every interaction he’s having with people is leaving an imprint, which is superb."

The executive vice-chairman also spoke of the importance of having Ryan Giggs involved in van Gaal's regime.

"It was a very easy conversation to have [with Louis] about Ryan. He said he wanted Ryan to be in his group," Woodward added. "It’s very important to us as a club that we have continuity and Ryan is the perfect person to continue that continuity. He did a great job in the set-up last year and has obviously been at the club for a long time, so we’re very pleased about that.

"There is real unity in the squad and Louis clearly has something to give in terms of the special way he has with his players when it comes to binding the team together. We’ve seen that already with the steps he’s taken with the preparation and the training and the things going on around that. He’s going to deliver exactly what we expect him to deliver and in conjunction with Ryan, who has that great understanding of all these players."

Nothing on transfers YET, i guess it will be same line that club continue to work hard and we want to assess the squad etc. Mutv dare not ask a meaningful question.
