Was Guardiola available when Fergie retired? I thought he had already decided on BM...

No mate & you're right about the BM job.

Guardiola had already agreed to take over Bayern long before Fergie met him in New York. They went out for a meal (January, 2013 i think) & Guardiola said that he wasnt quite sure if he was being offered the United job, because he couldnt understand Fergie properly, but that he had already give his word on the Bayern job & wouldnt break that anyway..

Aye, that's what I thought! Don't like Pep's style so I am not entirely unhappy that he's not with us!

Sky are reporting that Lukaku is back for Chelsea's pre-season and wants to fight for his place in the team.

That's a fair price.

I think what TD is saying is that for that price, there is no real financial gain of selling Evra.

So unless he has forced the exit and really wants to go (which is probably what happened), there is no real reason to sell him.

He's 33, past his prime and with a year on his contract. How much is he supposed to go for?

And he also wants to leave. It's a fair price but understandably their is an emotional attachment to him.

€1.7 million :wenger:
I don't care if he leaves on a free, he's been nothing but loyal to the club the fans and his commitment has gone above and beyond, he has gave his all and played when he should have been rested, he will go down as a legend in my eyes. As much as he loves the club, he won't want to play second fiddle after being first for so long, especially at his age.

With Evra going does anyone else feel it's a shame we sold Fabio just 6 months.

Disappointing as he would have easily been good enough cover for both fullback positions.

Should probably have posted this in another thread.

No, as much as i love the Da Silva twins Fabio just wasn't as talented as Rafael despite the promising early signs. It was a good decision to let him go IMO.

Wasn't meant as a dig. I don't know how much you were expecting for a 30 odd year old with one year on his deal.

Sorry about that mate

€5m wouldnt be asking too much in my opinion. He's got 2-3 years left in him playin in a slow-paced league like Serie A..

Compare how Baines played at the WC & how Evra (3 years his senior) played, yet Baines was rated in the £10m+ bracket before the tournament..

We always seem to get screwed selling players (Ronnie & Veron fee's were a one-off's), and much of that is down to United not ruining the chance of the player gettin his chosen move. Still though, its very frustrating..

There should be a fecking book about how we managed to choose Moyes when Guardiola, Mourinho and Ancelotti were available. fecking insane.

Thats a book i would definitely buy, a documentary with dramatic re-enactments would be great also.

Would loved to have been a fly on the wall and witnessed the events which lead up to the decision that Dreary Dave was the man to replace arguably the most charismatic and successful football manager of all time.

Do folk on here, not rate Vlaar higher than this lad?

I thought Vlaar was excellent in most (if not all) of Hollands games at the WC!

He is probably a solid defender but his lack of pace would likely see him exposed in an attacking, high line, 4-2-1-3 therefore Louis would likely prefer quicker defenders as he would probably look to move to that formation when he has his perfect 11.

Or were you joking?

Personally, I rate De Vrij higher than Vlaar and Blind.

£10million seems like a great deal for him too, hope we can get him over Lazio.

Yes been thinking this for a few weeks, Fabio i don't think will ever be as good as his brother but could have provided great cover for both full back positions next season, allowing us to concentrate on recruiting for other positions this summer. I doubt we even put a buy back clause in his contract.

Another stellar decision by Moyes, no doubt the first step in his master plan to turn United into a real mid-table force.
