There isn't really much to assess. We've lost two central defenders and our midfield is poor, everyone knows that. I could understand him wanting to have a look at our wingers before buying one, but buying a centre half and a centre mid isn't optional. It has to be done.

We have 4 CB's there on tour all Young and with good potential, so there i can understand he wants to see as well.

But in midfield we are even worse off now.

I agree, but I think he knows that. If we get Vidal and Hummels we'll be in very, very good shape. I'd actually have us as favorites for the title.

Honestly wouldn't mind Schneiderlin here, would be an improvement on all our midfielders as things stand while Herrera settles.

Let's not start all this "everyone is better than what we have" nonsense.

It's the kind of thinking that saw us think Fellaini was a clever buy.

I think that says it all. his 5 years ago form!!

I think he was quite good during 11-12 and 12-13 as well. By the end of 12-13 he was injured a lot. This carried over to 13-14 and he got demoted to the fringes.

So it's not as long ago as you might think. He's been unlucky with injuries as well.

He completely lacks concentration. He'll never be anything better than a half decent CB who is pretty good moving with the ball and being a real aerial threat from set pieces.

As have Smalling, Evans and Jones. Obviously a player can get injured at any time but we'd be much better off going for someone who has a better chance of playing a full season for us.

I am confused what is to assess in terms of midfield options anyway. Fletcher can barely be relied upon, Carrick is out now and he's not taken Anderson or any younger mids on tour.

Surely we need one atleast ?
Yeah and I'm sure we will. Whether it be Vidal I'm not so sure.
Can see a lot of te players that were at risk playing out their skins this tour, players like Cleverley and Young.

He says he has a proper contact. Called RvP to United before any press got onto it. And he hasn't posted on any other transfers so he doesn't seem like he just wants to be a ITK
Would bidding for him during the pre season tour make sense though? Yeah he'd be back off holiday but wouldn't we rather get everything sorted now, so all he has to do is have a medical whilst we're out there, then he can join up with the lads and get cracking?

He's still on holiday too, plus he made it to the latter stages of the WC and is already nursing an injury. He needs to be taking things slow.

I agree this Vermaelan is dogshite stuff is overstated imo. He doesn't fit well with Koscielny and I think most of his poor performances came next to him as they both like to play the ball out and get caught out of position at times. Both need more of a leader who sets the back four up next to them like Merte. Kos is just better than Verm so he has been benched to go with his injury problems.

Yes but sometimes clubs agree a deal in principle along with the player BEFORE making the official bid. Either way he wouldn't be playing now what with his knee and all that. If reports in Chile are to be believed we first checked in his knee so it might explain delay in actual proper bid

This was the same psychology that Madrid used when they sold Robben to Bayern. He was injured far too often and couldn't make a big enough impact. He then went to Germany , bought by a certain Louis Van Gaal, who made him superfit with modern training methods. Van Gaal has a knack of rehabilitating injured players. It was under his guidance that RVP got fit to play an entire season for Arsenal, then us. He got that fitness upon training under Van Gaal's physios.

So the injury alone is not a good enough argument. We can still rehabilitate those players.

Or perhaps we and Juve have an agreement to hold this move off until they get most if not all their signings in? Many possibilities mate

I remember reading that now, just makes even less sense to call people bullshitters when we claim we're buying him.

Sounds like mega, ultra bullshit to me.

Because it is. The same guy a week or so was saying the deal is done, then a couple of days later that the fee had to be agreed and now this. Dotn know if still on his twitter or if he deleted it as cant be arsed to read his shit after what I have seen on here from him.

Who'll they buy now?

Schneiderlin or Bender ? Either won't be a massive drop off from Khedira and younger.

"Cesc wanted to join Chelsea" No shit.... he just signed for you
