I can't see the downside. We managed to fit in Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez so why the calls to the Samaritans if we go into next season with Rooney, RVP, Cavani? Especially when you consider how versatile at least two of those three are

I don't think the issue fans have is that they don't want another good forward, it's that they would much rather see the club prioritising other positions first and foremost. That's my attitude, at least.

Exactly. Besides haven't we always been told there are funds for a 'special player'? It's possible that the ordinary budget would be unaffected if we did identify and sign Cavani as one of those players.
Again though, if we're going to try for a special player, can it be where we need one most?

Well our goals record last season wasn't great. I'm warming to the opinion that if you look at how many City packed away last year, you need more than just one or two players who have any chance of getting over 15. Our back-up options are hardly prolific. Yes we need goals from midfield too but although I'd probably agree it wouldn't be the first priority, I don't think the lack of goals is that far down the pecking order of issues to deal with.
Especially when we're talking about a versatile forward. Were we signing an identikit RVP for £50m I'd understand the head scratchng.

We scored one less than them and only had two players over 15 goals.
You had others joining in. You can't really plan for that. You may think it'd be nice if the CM pitched in with 14 goals or if the defenders got 11 between them but it's not really something that you go into a season expecting to happen. Of couse maximising goals from all over the pitch is a target but there's a difference between hoping Carrick gets a dozen goals and signing someone who you know is probably guaranteed to.
