I think ideally we need Lallana + one of Sanchez, Markovic or Shaqiri. I'd be disappointed if we only managed to get one of them.
You're not getting Sanchez. Other clubs can offer much more financially than Liverpool.

It'll be the papers who are linking us with these players, they have to write some transfer speculation. Are you people serious? fecking hell. I'd rather the morons in here who blame Woodward for us being linked to players would piss off before he does. He's a fecking Chief Executive, not a director of football and not the club's owner. He's purely in charge of negotiating transfers, he is not responsible for our transfer strategy or our list of targets. Get that through your thick skulls.
You could put most club chairmen in that group.Football is littered with people like Woodward that do inexplicable things. It's just a new concept to us because, until a year ago, we've been in good hands.
I thought he prefer a move to Juve or is that a rumour?I don't think we will get Sanchez unless Suarez leaves. My point remains though, I would be disappointed if we didn't bring in a winger on top of Lallana.
I think we can better Juventus though in terms of wages though.
If you get those prices for them I would be massively surprised.
They were doomed from the moment he wrote that article
Woodward is developing a habit of spending big money on novelty signings if this comes to fruition.
Mata is a novelty signing?
I think he meant Fellaini.. No one acknowledges Woodward signed Mata around here..
As for Woodward, one decent signing out of plenty of mistakes last summer does not redeem him. By all means provide a balance to the argument but the guy has A LOT to prove.
Well, you're taking "novelty" in a negative sense - he was a player that we did not need in terms of the position. I would call it luxury, however, i see the sentiment behind "novelty".

Well I kind of feel for Woodward. It's since turned out that Moyes veto'd most of the transfers we had lined up. See Herrera deal and Moyes value comments on it.

Give him time to prove it then. For all we know he maybe working on deals behind closed doors and just spoon feeding the media outlets different stories, to try keep the actual deals private.
It's better to judge him when the transfer window has finished.
Really? Why would he do so when he payed around the same money (well 3m less) for Fellaini? The only thing it comes to my mind is that eh said to Moyes to choose from one of them and Moyes chose Fellaini. The truth being spoken, that isn't a bad thing considering that it is a bit risk to pay 60m for 2 very unproven (in the top level) midfielders. I rate Herrera highly but there isn't any guarantee that it would have worked. Having another overpayed big signings would have send us in all kind of trouble.I dont like Woodward, however, you are correct that Moyes has to take a fair share of blame last summer too. As for Herrera - Moyes wanted him and Woodward screwed it. That simple.

Wrong.
"The stuff about Herrera, we made an offer for £23m and we were never going to go to the buy-out clause," Moyes told reporters.
"All the rubbish that was talked about that - with people going in, they were never working on behalf of us. Never at any time did we increase our offer."
Also
Moyes insisted yesterday the pursuit of Herrera ended because he simply considered the £30.5million fee too high, saying: ‘I really liked the player and still do. We were trying to do a deal but I just thought the buy-out figure was the wrong valuation.’

I think by now it's very clear that Moyes was the guilty party behind the shambles of last summer. It's not Woody who decided against Thiago, Garay, Strootman etc. So far my only critique of Woody is that he (or someone close to him) is a bit too media friendly.Well, you're taking "novelty" in a negative sense - he was a player that we did not need in terms of the position. Yeah but, er, Woodward hired Moyes. So there.
Moyes in supporting new Chief Exec shocker. What was he going to do - blame him? No chance.

Your statement that that Woody is at fault is equally baseless IMO. Woody was ready to splurge big last summer.Moyes in supporting new Chief Exec shocker. What was he going to do - blame him? No chance.
Wherever the blame lies, the right decision was made. Herrera would never have single handedly saved our season and his release clause was only £6.5m short of Mata's price. I know who I would rather have had.

Who? Mata? They don't even play the same position

Fair enough. I see the point you're making though. I just feel that the Woodward criticism comes from some of us still under the after effects of the Moyes debacle. We will have to agree to disagree mate. As for us spending big, i will believe it when i see it.
