This thread has got really crap since we blacklisted certain tweeters :(

That would just be ridiculous. What in god's name does he know about the sport let alone who the club should be buying? I'm sure van Gaal will have ultimate veto power if he doesn't want Cavani.

Football is littered with people like Woodward that do inexplicable things. It's just a new concept to us because, until a year ago, we've been in good hands.

Ok, I understand what you're saying. The fact still remains that Cavani still doesn't make any sense, unless van Gaal somehow sees him as a potential useful cog in whatever way he wants to play.
Which means the Woodward bashing is unjustified.

Probably a lot more than you considering he works in the business? If you're gonna slate him for shite at least do it over things that have actually happened not rumours that you yourself said wouldn't happen about 5 posts up..

He knows about getting sponsorships and bringing money into the club. Would Cavani sell shirts? Yeah, sure. But is it what we need for the team? Not in the slightest. That's why I question his dealings when it comes to footballing reasons. Leave it up to van Gaal.

Enough with the Cavani talk?

If we sign him, I'm sure there is a very good reason why. If we don't, who gives a toss?

Your logic is flawed though. Is Cavani even a massive shirt seller? Also if we were pursuing Cavani it would be under LvG's guidance.

If we want someone to sell shirts, why not just sign Xavi on a one year deal. He'd still dominate 75% of Premier League matches.

Linked with with Cavani under Moyes = Woodward doesn't know what he's doing.

Linked with Cavani still under van Gaal = Van Gaal obviously wants him.

It's as though people want to pretend our problems ended when we brought in van Gaal. Woodward is still a cretin and probably still sees himself as the top dog considering van Gaal was brought in by him.

These journos that reckon we're in for him are ones that have been saying all along that it's Woodward that wants Cavani.

Italian journalists caught up with Vidal after the game and he said: "Will I stay at Juve? I don't know."

I'm basing it off the multiple reports of him wanting to make a name for himself in world football. I'm just going off rumors, I'm not saying what is reported is fact. The bashing is that Woodward should leave the blockbuster signing for van Gaal to figure out. Woodward's job is to seal the transfers that van Gaal will identify, not him trying to make himself look important by pushing for a big-name player that we don't need. I understand that van Gaal will have control in dictating transfers and Woodward will listen to what he says in getting players.

So Vidal will be linked with United for weeks, the Caf will explore in anticipation, and Vidal ends up at Real Madrid...cue suicides and talk of Jewish kids on Christmas. Is that about right?

Well if this is what you understand, there is no need to follow the unsubstantiated claims and use them as a reason to criticise Woodward.

I don't think van Gaal wants him though. I think it's bull shit like 99% of the other rumours about players we are going to sign.

I wouldn't be too sure. The word has been since before van Gaal that Woodward wants Cavani in order to put his name on the map in world football.

I have been watching LVG for a number of years and he doesn't appear to be one that can be trifled with.
He will have Woodie under control.

Bollocks, he's the first person to report in on twitter and Vidal speaks Italian so why would it be asked in English?

I've heard LVG quoted recently about how he admires Vidal and Chilean players in general so let's hope that may be an insight into his transfer strategy for 2014.

Fair enough. I didn't get my point across the way I wanted to and ended up looking silly. If we do actually want him, fine, I'll trust van Gaal and Woodward to get the deal done. If we don't, we're not worse off than we were before.

He came to United on Woodwards terms though. It was either that or Tottenham Hotspur. I think Woodward would be in a position to make a signing such as this, especially with van Gaal being a reasonably short term appointment.

Agreed. As much as everyone likes to convince themselves otherwise at the end of the day things are up to Woodward & if he wants Cavani and can do a deal it'll happen. Whether it does and van Gaal plays him or not is a completely different matter.

This is what I was trying to say but you've worded it much better than my own attempts, especially the bolded part. I think Woodward feels he has to make a statement to make himself known. Whether van Gaal is in the position to reject such transfers is something we don't know.

It makes absolutely zero sense to sign Cavani unless van Gaal wants him. I know Woodward hasn't did much to paint him in a good light so far but I'm sure he has common sense

You lot got your heads in the sand or something, it's well known that Vidal is for sale this summer if the offer is right and his most likely destination is Madrid....

Ah well, close the thread.

Edit: Hang on, its the twitter discussion. Keep it open, so that we can read about his move to Madrid.

He said that he was happy at the Juve and was only thinking about the tournament.

To Sky sport

The idea that he came out and said what that tweet reported is absolute nonsense. Anybody who knows anything about Vidal would know he wouldn't come out and say shit like that and as you can see, it's basically bullshit translation.

I've had a feeling for weeks that Cavani would be our big signing this summer - big name signing who is available at the right price - Woody will feel that this is his chance to make his mark

If they used an accurate quote my money would be on it being something like "We've just beaten the World Champions and qualified for the second round, why the feck are you asking me about this right now?"

It makes zero sense, we all agree. However, we've been strongly linked for months, just as we have Luke Shaw. I expect the rumours of there being a 'Manchester United transfer list' and a 'van Gaal transfer list' are probably true, which I saw reporters mentioning a few weeks ago.
