Cavani can play on the right in the front 3, cant he?

If we are going with 1 striker (which will be van Persie when fit), getting him and letting Rooney go might make sense on paper.

I really haven't seen the french league. He hasn't been terribly impressive from that few CL games I did see.

I do and Cavani underwhelms me more than Fellaini at that sort of money
Interesting to note that according to many posters on here we can't compete with PSG moneywise and we can't offer CL football yet we are now supposed to be signing one of their recent major signings

As long as Rooney is sold no. Contrary to people who have watched Cavani three times and have decided that he is shit, I have watche dhim for years on both Palermo and Napoli and think that he is brilliant. He is a better striker than Rooney and would be an upgrade.

However, signing him and keeping Rooney (and obviously RVP) doesn't make any sense at all.

Won't be bashing LvG but there is no point in bringing in Cavani and selling Rooney. It will be awful. Rooney offers lot more and is a better player.

That point stands. No point in having both Rooney and Cavani when you need to strengthen other areas. My point was if any one is against the decision then it has no relevance to whose decision it is.

Because he's unhappy there and wants to move. Nowt to do with money.

If he wants to appease the fans then Woodward should just offer £45m for Vidal and £300k per week. See what happens...

That doesn't mean PSG will sell. Look at Rooney and Suarez last season.

I know, I don't want them to sell unless we move Rooney on as we don't need him. Was just saying it's not really a way to say we can compete with them financially or anything as that wouldn't be the reason he wants to leave.

I agree.

If Cavani comes then it's pretty much the end of Welbeck, if Rooney and RVP end up staying.

Rooney in midfield? Not saying I would go with it myself but that might be the thinking, especially in a 4 3 3...

I meant there is a continual stream of posts saying that we can't compete with PSG , City and Chelsea and that all foreign players don't want to come to us because nobody's heard of United and we haven't got CL football so why would anyone join us etc etc , bla bla bla, not having a pop at you but is so irritating

This place went mental at prospect of Chelsea seemingly wrapping up Costa. We're linked with our own world class forward and the "do not wants" all come out of the woodwork. Maybe we should leak his name in relation to Arsenal and all those calling Woodward a muppet for apparently bidding will scream "Why not us!!!?!?!?" in anger.

I think it's more down to the fact that Cuntski are basically gearing up in a position they're shite at. We would've gone mental if we were wrapping up some half-decent midfielder as well.

I do hope that we don't sign Cavani, to make myself clear, we just don't need him.

Us buying another striker would be the same as if Wenger went in for another #10.

When we are willing to shell out 60 mil on a player why not use it on someone we need. We surely don't need any more self inflicted misery.

We don't need him and should spend our money on players we do need. Haven't criticised Woodward yet either, but I get your drift, every time any player whatsoever, doesn't matter if he's good, bad or whether we need him or not Woodward gets criticised for not buying him

Spot on.

Forget about Cavani, we should do whatever we can to sign Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal. They have been immense against Spain this evening.

Feck off Woodward. Useless.
Are you people serious? fecking hell. I'd rather the morons in here who blame Woodward for us being linked to players would piss off before he does. He's a fecking Chief Executive, not a director of football and not the club's owner. He's purely in charge of negotiating transfers, he is not responsible for our transfer strategy or our list of targets. Get that through your thick skulls.

I think a lot of other clubs will be thinking the same. Barca would be crazy to let Sanchez go anyway, especially since Fabregas and Xavi are supposedly out the door already.

We've repeatedly heard from Mitten that Woodward wants Cavani as a blockbuster signing, so it's not just a load of trash being reported. Hopefully van Gaal completely ends this nonsense.

I read somewhere they have to sell to raise funds for a striker. We have a lot of money to spend which a lot of other clubs don't apart from Chelsea, City, PSG and Real Madrid and I think we would be more of an attractive prospect then the next group of teams e.g. Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus etc. Also who says the other clubs with the money to match us will have room for a Vidal or a Sanchez.

Let Vidal or Sanchez be the blockbuster signing not another striker.

It doesn't matter if Woodward wants Cavani if van Gaal doesn't.

I agree with both of you... If LVG rates Cavani and thinks he will fit into his system then he will be bought, if not, then no.

I'm confident Woodward would never go over LVG and I have faith in the current manager.... The last manager maybe not so much. :)

I wouldn't be too sure. The word has been since before van Gaal that Woodward wants Cavani in order to put his name on the map in world football.

But he's not trying to get a deal done unless van Gaal has requested that he does so, which has no relevance to how competent Woodward is.

Ok, I understand what you're saying. The fact still remains that Cavani still doesn't make any sense, unless van Gaal somehow sees him as a potential useful cog in whatever way he wants to play.

That would just be ridiculous. What in god's name does he know about the sport let alone who the club should be buying? I'm sure van Gaal will have ultimate veto power if he doesn't want Cavani.
