40 million for Robben would be insane. I know he's probably the best winger in the world at the moment but he'll be 31 in January and he's a player who relies on his quick bursts of pace. We'll get maybe three great seasons out of him with no sell-on value. That's just not enough for that money, especially considering we'd certainly get Sanchez for that amount.

Obviously Sneijder isn't interesting either.
The money we would get from getting back into the CL would pay for most of the transfer. Without signing the right players we could be out for years.

Sneijder was a dodged bullet. After his amazing 2010 season, he struggled to make any impact the next years.
I dont think Sneijder would be in LVG's starting XI if he wasn't playing well and from what I've heard he's doing pretty well in Turkey.. I know the Turkish league isn't the best league in the world but at the same time, it's not fair to say he's struggled to make an impact either

Ask yourself these questions
regarding Robben.

1. Would he improve the squad? Yes dramatically.
2. Has his age effected his pace? No he has made the fastest sprint in WC history.
3. Can he play at the top level? Yes undoubtedly.
4. Would he make us terrifying on the counter? Yes.
5. Could we sell him on? No hed stay for LVG reign and then retire after the three years.
6. Is he better than the current choices? Without question.
7. What number would he wear? NO 7!

ffs, I thought ITK's were banned and hence this guy too.

Decent points though, don't think anyone will disagree although Bayern won't sell him in first place and 40m pound is a lot of money to spend on a 29 year old. If we can somehow get him for 30 then why not.

Yes, but he wouldn't be decisively quick like he is now. Mata and Silva have other strengths, both very intelligent and creative. Robben is very much a player who needs to be able to beat his man on pace. As long as he's able to do that, he'll still be a world-beater, but once he loses that, there's not much left.

You make him sound like Aaron Lennon...

Who cares about £10m?

Given that he was world class in 2010 it's a big drop in form. He's still a decent player but he's in the Dutch side because there's no one particularly good competing for his role.

  • Earlier today we brought you news that Al-Ariba coach Dan Petrescu is claiming Spanish playmaker Xavi has signed a pre-contract with the Qatari outift. It is news that has left Xavi's Barcelona team-mate Dani Alves bemused.
''I cannot believe it. You must be kidding. It cannot be. Not Xavi.''

    so dramatic, much wow.

That's a naive way to look at things. He's probably one of the most technically gifted footballers in the world atm. He has got more to his game than just pace.

He is a bit like Aaron Lennon in my opinion. Just a much, much better one.

He is absolutely nothing like Aaron Lennon. The only characteristic that comes close is their pace, and even then Robben spanks him in that department. So in conclusion: ridiculous statement.

Add Mikel (£10m), Ba (£10m), Romeu (£5m), Bertrand (£5m), Moses (£5m), Marin (£5m), Kakuta (£2m) McEachran (£3m) = £45m.

More signings coming in with that £45m.

If you get those prices for them I would be massively surprised.

fecking hell

Just seen our fixtures, obviously that "leak" was a load of horsedollop.

Anyone remember who tweeted that?

Dani Alves has a future as a dramatic novelist.

If LVG signs him at least we know that that he has spent a lot of time with him recently and knows what he is capable of. The World Cup is gonna be one long scouting trip for any of the Dutch players that LVG might bring on board.

Obviously he's worked closely with them during the qualifiers prior to this but (a) he didn't know he would be United manager and (b) I'm sure you'll tell much more about a players character in a tournament like this.

Thought Hull were signing Lescott or was that just rumors?
I thought that too. I'm amazed Villa aren't in for him. He's a Villa fan and has loads of friends & family in the West Midlands so I guess the baggies being in for him makes sense.

AS say we're close to signing him and Marca say he's staying, all in the same day!

Yep! I've seen reports saying we'll pay the release clause too.

Would be good if we get him, if only to hear this from a corner, "Van Persie takes, Miranda! Hart! Good save!"
