Al-Arabi coach Dan Petrescu claims Barcelona playmaker Xavi has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Qatari club. The 34-year-old has made 474 appearances in his one-club career but speculation over his club future is rife and it is reported that there would be little resistance to a move.

No we didn't. We missd out on plenty high profile targets under him. I don't recall anyone on here saying he was great at his role when he was actually doing the job. All I remember is a lot opf gnashing opf teth at missing out on some top players and a lot of upset that the club was neglecting midfield -problems that have remained under his successor.

I never said Gill was good at his job while he was at the job.
Its only when Woodward took over and everything we touched during the transfer window went to complete shit I began to appreciate what a good job Gill did.

Woodward should've touched Fellaini more during those negotiations..

Don't get me wrong I'm not necessarilly defending Woodward, just saying that we were definitely not spoiled under Gill and its madness to want him to come back like he's the saviour. It was season after season of missed players.

I think a bit of sympathy towards Woodward's plight might not go amiss.

  • Gets working on Fergie's list of targets; Fergie retires, Moyes says no to these players.
  • Gets working on Moyes' list of targets; Moyes is sacked, LVG says no to these players.
We genuinely dont know whether LVG has submitted a list of transfer targets to Woodward, he may want to have more time to see what he already has at his disposal. The papers are all guessing who are targets are but could be getting their info from Agents trying to engineer moves for their players.

Ultimately Woodward should be judged on the 1st of September. If we dont have the targets LVG wanted then he will be rightly seen as a failure. But we need to remember, this isn't Football manager where a deal is done in 24 hours by just continually upping the offer. Most fo the best players in the world are in Brazil and clubs probably wont want to negtiate until they have replacements lined up.

Have patience!

I agree with you on having patience and it will be down to Woodward getting the targets by 1st September but what im saying is, Woodward seems like he goes in circles. I like how everything is hush hush at United at the moment in terms of transfer talk and there are no leaks. I know its getting a lot of people knickers in a twist but we genuinely need to do it this way, as daft as it may sound, we just don't can't let any other club hijack our deals especially when we are not in Europe. Woodward just seems to have disappeared, and thats the worrying thing for me. In terms of Gill's signings, fair enough we never completed what 5/6 signing from his 10 years as CEO but the fact remains, Gill did not run around as with his tail between his legs.

I'd love to have Robben here. Cracking player and he'd provide us with the productivity that has been sorely lacking from our wingers in the past two seasons.

However I'm pretty sure he ruled out leaving Bayern a few weeks ago.

Haven't seen it in any British media!

But now that Bild have reported it, the Brit press will. And so the merry go round continues apace.

Come on LVG and RVP. Work your magic and tempt him here. You can mention Robben's age but he doesn't show any signs of slowing down in the near future. Even if it was only for one or two seasons at his current peak he would more than justify a 40 million price tag. He is simply that good. One of the few players you can say that about with confidence so you have to at least see if he can possibly be tempted into another challenge under a manager he respects.

None of us would question 40 million for Robben in two season's time when we're firmly established back at the top of the league and playing champions league football again. RVP, Robben and Januzaj would be a trio to give the premier league a nervous chill at just the thought.

40 million for Robben would be insane. I know he's probably the best winger in the world at the moment but he'll be 31 in January and he's a player who relies on his quick bursts of pace. We'll get maybe three great seasons out of him with no sell-on value. That's just not enough for that money, especially considering we'd certainly get Sanchez for that amount.

Obviously Sneijder isn't interesting either.

No Sneijder, haven't you made us suffer enough!?!

Sneijder was a dodged bullet. After his amazing 2010 season, he struggled to make any impact the next years.

Ask yourself these questions
regarding Robben.

1. Would he improve the squad? Yes dramatically.
2. Has his age effected his pace? No he has made the fastest sprint in WC history.
3. Can he play at the top level? Yes undoubtedly.
4. Would he make us terrifying on the counter? Yes.
5. Could we sell him on? No hed stay for LVG reign and then retire after the three years.
6. Is he better than the current choices? Without question.
7. What number would he wear? NO 7!

at 32/33 Robben would still be quicker than a lot of players. Like Mata, Silva etc...
Yes, but he wouldn't be decisively quick like he is now. Mata and Silva have other strengths, both very intelligent and creative. Robben is very much a player who needs to be able to beat his man on pace. As long as he's able to do that, he'll still be a world-beater, but once he loses that, there's not much left.

Bild story is a non goer, British media ran the Robben story few weeks back now and he since came out and saying he won't leave Bayern. Don't think iv'e seen us linked since.

Some guy on my timeline claimed Robbens agent was in Manchester looking for houses.....almost definitely bollocks but fun.
