Sport witness talk a lot rubbish mate. Ignore.

Urgh not this again. Did you read what the tweet said? Buttner's agent said it not Sports Witness.

They simply relay news from foreign media sources. Good riddance it's been explained a 1000 times in this thread.

Evra signs new deal, Shaw deal looks 99% likely, Buttner leaving is logical.

I have a feeling Van Gaal will sign one of the dutch youngens like Martins Indi who can play at LB for cover either if Evra/Shaw are out or for next season if Evra goes. We have Smalling/Jones who can cover in the middle and the right but never have any cover at LB, would be nice to have another squad player but for the left side.
Well, Vermaelen can easily cover at LB.

Sorry i should have comment more on the Buttner agent part as i highly doubt that United will be letting someone else's agent know what happening about other signings. The Shaw deal will hopefully be concluded after the WC. I think with all that was happening at Southampton, it was bound to happen after the WC and after they had a manager. Fair enough, point taken on Sport Witness relaying news. Have no fear.

Cheers mate. Glad we could clear that up.

Now can someone find Woody please?

James Ducker has retweeted all the tweets about Buttner / United trying to get Shaw.

Haven't followed Gaitan's career all that closely but were we not all very excited when he was a potential target a couple of years ago. Or did he just have a sexy name that sounded good?

Whilst I don't think Buttner is good enough for United, he has always put a a shift in when he played. Seemed like he was proud to be a United player and his attitude was spot on.
It kind of sums the Caf up that people are posting rubbish like 'good riddance' and celebrating the fact he may be leaving, as if he was a stain on the club. fecking embarrassing.
If he goes I wish him the best as he is a decent player an deserves to be playing regularly.

Agreed. On bad days, he seemed like the only player to care and played with passion and desire - something that has been really missing from the first team for a while now. As a player, he was fast, had a good cross on him, could do stepovers, and had the right attitude. Unfortunately, as a left back, his defending was lacking and for a winger, he wouldn't be enough for a club like United.

Some quotes from that article that may be of interest:

Despite Holland’s 5-1 thrashing of Spain in their opening game, Van Gaal said he was still struggling to convince the Dutch press that his switch to a 5-3-2 formation remained true to the values of Total Football.

“Whenever I say we’re applying the Dutch principles, it’s interpreted differently,” he said. “In the Netherlands, it’s assumed if you use three forwards, that’s tradition. I have a different view.

“There will always be criticism. If I use 4-3-3 there would be criticism as well. Some things are positive and negative. And when I’m involved, it’s generally [considered] negative.”

Sadly Gill is lining up a move to be UEFA President. The man is seriously powerful in the world of football and that's why we handled our transfers like a BOSS under him.
Seriously the revisionism needs to stop! We missed plenty of targets under Gill - Moura, Sneijder, Hazard. We hadn't signed a top class midfielder in a long time under him and our net spend for the last few seasons with Gill has been low. Why do people wnat that back. He might have had more savvy than Woodward but he seemed to toe the Glazer line in terms of spending and thats whats left us in a position of needing so many recruits.

What's the good news? Don't have times subscription.
Bit of background: Van Gaal's first game as Netherlands boss in 2012, Van Persie didn't start, Van Gaal challenged him to prove he was still the best Dutch striker, Van Gaal was impressed with Van persie's attitude after that and brought him back into the Dutch team. Van Persie then became captain and their relationship has blossomed.

It's almost as if these guys were in a alternate universe where Gill signed big names very year and had Hazard, Sneijder and Ronaldinho playing for us.

Also, this is the David Gill that knew SAF was retiring and knew how difficult the transition would be for the next manager. Instead of staying to smooth the transition, he decided to go at the same time. I don't blame him, it's just a job but constantly reading how wonderful he was is puzzling

Haha yeah didn't Hunterlaar start that one? RVP must have looked at Hunterlaar and thought really?

what makes you think Woody isn't? Woody's spending is on the other end of the scale.

Won't pay £32m for an established international 21 year old but will pay £30m for a novice LB.

K den.
Supply and demand. Hernandez is even more of a proven international and goal scorer than Lukaku and we wouldn't be getting £32m for him either.

No we didn't. We missd out on plenty high profile targets under him. I don't recall anyone on here saying he was great at his role when he was actually doing the job. All I remember is a lot opf gnashing opf teth at missing out on some top players and a lot of upset that the club was neglecting midfield -problems that have remained under his successor.

Don't get me wrong I'm not necessarilly defending Woodward, just saying that we were definitely not spoiled under Gill and its madness to want him to come back like he's the saviour. It was season after season of missed players.

I think a bit of sympathy towards Woodward's plight might not go amiss.

  • Gets working on Fergie's list of targets; Fergie retires, Moyes says no to these players.
  • Gets working on Moyes' list of targets; Moyes is sacked, LVG says no to these players.
We genuinely dont know whether LVG has submitted a list of transfer targets to Woodward, he may want to have more time to see what he already has at his disposal. The papers are all guessing who are targets are but could be getting their info from Agents trying to engineer moves for their players.

Ultimately Woodward should be judged on the 1st of September. If we dont have the targets LVG wanted then he will be rightly seen as a failure. But we need to remember, this isn't Football manager where a deal is done in 24 hours by just continually upping the offer. Most fo the best players in the world are in Brazil and clubs probably wont want to negtiate until they have replacements lined up.

Have patience!
