Actually Im a little worried and excited at the same time.
It obviously means we will 100% be signing a LB but what worries me is that say Evra and Shaw rotate, what happens if Shaw is injured, wed have to solely rely on Evra who was showing alarming signs of fatigue and age last season. Who will we have to rotate? 3 at the back? play with wing backs?
Buttner has to understandably go, no question, for his own future more than anything. Who is our current youngster playing LB? Id enjoy a promotion actually.
This, its an insane fee for the back up to Benteke for Belgium, theyd be lucky to get half that.
Can't see any mention of a figure anywhere. Seems to be on a 3 year contract though.
Won't pay £32m for an established international 21 year old but will pay £30m for a novice LB.

I was thinking the same.
No way we're going to need 3 left backs. We only had 2 last season with all those extra fixtures and I'm sure we can agree we're strengthening here swapping Buttner for Shaw (or Blind or anyone else we've been linked with for that matter).
Plus Evra won't suffer from the same fatigue, as Shaw will no doubt be taking a lot of games from him and there's less fixtures without CL.

Buttner was such a bizarre signing. What was even seen in him by Sir Alex and the scouting team? I remember he wasn't even a top three fullback in the Dutch league at the time.

Buttner wasn't half bad as a LW but he's horrendous as a LB. Wish him the best. With him going it seems we're certainly signing someone in that LB position...everything falling into place for Shaw deal it seems what with Saints having a new manager now.
He was OK in a game in which we were pinned back and playing as deep as we could was basically the game plan. When we are in more opened games he is far too susceptible to poor positioning and a general lack of defensive diligence.

Whilst I don't think Buttner is good enough for United, he has always put a a shift in when he played. Seemed like he was proud to be a United player and his attitude was spot on.

This. You always sensed he was just happy to be playing in a United jersey. Unfortunately, he's not the standard we need and I hope he finds a suitable club.
How would Buttner's agent know?
Perhaps it was explained to him that Buttner is surplus to requirements because a new LB is being brought in this summer. Does seem unnecessary for us to have told him names though. Perhaps hes just put 2 and 2 together.

I have a feeling Van Gaal will sign one of the dutch youngens like Martins Indi who can play at LB for cover either if Evra/Shaw are out or for next season if Evra goes. We have Smalling/Jones who can cover in the middle and the right but never have any cover at LB, would be nice to have another squad player but for the left side.
