They signed him for £25mil, plus Matic, who they've since signed back for £21mil. If they get the reported £48mil for Luiz they've made a couple of million profit. No great shakes.
In a market where David Luiz was sold for £50m, you never know.

Luiz €50M = £40m - even less shakes

So he's "Heard" someone say the deal is likely.

Well, f'ck me..all is forgiven Howard Nurse
I think most sources on twitter "hear things" and tweet about it. Apart from few reliable top journalists. If anything he is a bit honest in his tweet mentioning his source.

All done, Felipe Luis and CFC. LB was is London last weekend and the deal was closed. Should be official in the next few days. #Chelsea.

Middle of June and Chelsea have probably finished their business after signing Fabregas, Costa and Felipe Luis.

No arsing about at Stamford Bridge.

Fabregas: His club didn't want him, signalled the fee they wanted and Chelsea were the only team to go in for him. Done before WC. Easy.

Costa: Release clause, no-one else in for him. Pretty much settled before WC. Easy.

Felipe Luis: 29 year old LB, A. Madrid have a replacement, Chelsea are paying upwards of €20m. Not at WC. Easy.

Our manager is currently occupied with the WC and, I imagine, so are most of the players he's interested in. Wait 'til the WC starts before we start judging this transfer window.

TBF Chelsea were reportedly the biggest suitors for Shaw along with United. So it's good news for us that the Felipe switch is close to confirmation. Hopefully it speeds up our pursuit of Shaw.

Luis had a release clause too.

Southampton might want to remember Chelsea aren't now hyping the fee up, so stop getting super greedy. 27m for an 18year old left back is ridiculous as it is

Exactly. Doubt any other club can match our offer with FFP in mind now that Chelsea are out of the equation.

Anway their outlay has been impressive but we've no reason to panic yet. I think United will be among the biggest transfer market players post WC. None of our rivals have strengthened much either.

Even if they could match our bid, you won't find another desperate team like us who's is ready to pay 27 million for Shaw. He is way too overpriced and Chelsea did the right thing to buy an already world class left back for that price. Now i'm not saying we should buy a world class LB because there are not many around. If we want a young, talented left back then thats great. Rodríguez, Moreno all would cost half as much as Shaw and the English is just as much a risk as the cheaper options.

Correct me if I am wrong, I don't think we can compare our transfer dealing with Chelsea. They are funded by a billionaire and we have a financial structure to work under, we are fourth(?) richest club in the world and we generate enough revenue, but I don't think we have the financial freedom like Chelsea etc to spend what we like.
I do believe we back down from deals time to time because off financial commitments - Chelsea on other hand just needs to play it sweet with dodgy FFP rules.

Their closing down off transfer deals is very impressive though.

Fortunately that's no longer the case mate. Under the FFP rules we can quite possibly outspend any club on the planet not named Madrid or Barcelona (just two clubs with higher revenues than ours). Chelsea, City, PSG are not even close. The only ones apart from the big two with the ability to compete with us are Bayern (including the CL money that we'll miss out on next season).

You are correct, but I am not convinced with FFP. We heard all the jokes about City and PSG fined ££ for breaking the FFP rules - like it matters to them clubs.
Anyway let's just hope for the best.. This discussion is for another thread. Somebody feed us tweets.

But the more they are fined, the less they can spend and if repeat offenders, points deductions, transfer bans etc

And perhaps he made an error in judgement. He still recovered enough to buy a CM.

Which CM did we sign when we spent a whole summer being linked to Sneijder under Gill?

Ed's far from perfect but he hasn't been as bad as many say (at least in terms of transfers).

Wasn't that 2010 and then we went on to win the 10/11 season anyway?

You are right long term but this doesn't really apply yet. Chelsea have been able to fund their transfers this summer directly from oil money, via the sales of Mata, Luiz, de Bruyne, and that's just from this past season. It'll take a while for our revenue to give us the upper hand.

Hmm that's a good point mate. Although apart from Oscar or Hazard I doubt they'll be able to attract big money for pre-FFP Roman purchases. And it might be equally expensive for them to replace those two, who by all accounts are Jose's pets.

They were very close to the FFP limit but managed to "arrange" some figures with the loanees, training, etc - and they're not going to sell someone like Luiz every season for €50m to the club which is in the biggest danger of heavier FFP sanctions, PSG

Just one night I'd like to come on this forum and the place has exploded with the buzz of a couple of world class signings :(

I keep dreaming for that day too but I think we will be waiting a while by the time Woodward pulls his finger out. Maybe the silence is a good thing though....I hope!

It won't happen during the World Cup.

The six weeks between the end of the WC and the closing of the transfer window will surely stretch muppet nerves to breaking point though. Agony or ecstasy, or something in between? Who knows?

Maybe, don't remember now.
However winning is down to SAF, not Gill.

I assume if LVG comes in and win the league without any new players, Woodward won't be getting "we won the league anyways"

Did De Bruyne cost 25M? Didn't know that, the Matic business was strange but I guess when your owned by a Russian billionaire it doesn't matter.

They made about ten million on De Bruyne, they made a few quid on Luiz.

But heres the kicker, ..they paid 50 MILLION SHEETS for Torres!

All together now, trololololol :lol::lol::lol::lol:
