Great attitude by Butt in that article

If anyone wants to have a career in coaching management then I've not an issue. Butt does seem to be someone who is determined and motivated by the job. Some others seem to think it's a right of way to work here.

Silva's level of power at PSG becoming a major concern. If this continues, PSG should consider a sale. No way would Marcelo strengthen PSG.

I don't know what to make of what Gary Neville just said. Part of me thinks he wants Van Gaal to not succeed, even though he's a united fan as strange as that sounds.

He is downplaying expectations for LVG surely ?

How is that quote supposed to harm LVG ? Don't know the context anyway if he indeed said it.

I think he is on the bandwagon of british coaches/managers. He really wanted moyes to succeed, he wants giggs as the replacement. If he has said that, i think he is just being stupid.
I know this might belong in another thread, but Gary is speaking from tradition and the holier than thou attitude some ex united players have. Also, from an England coaches perspective. A non British manager might prefer a foreign youngster over a British one even if they've got similar abilities.

Yeah, attendance averages 40,000+.

You're not reading my post. He is better than anything we have but we would have to completely change the system to fit him in and I don't think the other players we have would suit that system well. To change the system completely to just get two or so years out of Xavi is very short term thinking and not something I would want for my club. Yes we would be getting a player better than anything we have, but I think overall it would hurt the Sounders in the long run.
Xavi is more than capable of playing in a midfield two in MLS, though.

It's MLS.

I'm not suggesting he's trying to harm Van Gaal, but I think he's a little uncomfortable with Van Gaal as united manager from his united "tradition" standpoint and his role as an England assistant.

Yeah i've seen a few games & highlights of MLS last season & the crowds are pretty large & rowdy alright. Great to see & fair play to ya's..

Not quite the same atmosphere as in Europe and South America but we're getting there. One thing I've noticed we are lacking when compared to Europe in terms of songs and chants is wit, I think that will come with time as more history is built between teams and rivalries heat up. There have been quite a few songs/chants that I've come across from fans of EPL teams that are extremely funny but we just don't have that yet for some reason.

G. Nev under Moyes: "I honestly don't think it needs a rebuild." With LVG at MUFC: "Won't be a revolution unless they sign 7, 8 or 9." Eh?

The MLS is lacking in technicality but it is quite physical and I think Xavi would have trouble getting up and down the field and keeping up with the pace of the game here. He can barely do it in Spain at this point and it is a much slower and technical game there. You really think he would be able to run up to support an attack and then recover when the ball is hoofed back? That is unfortunately what happens often here because of the lack of technical ability and I think playing in a two man midfield would require too much running for a 34 year old Xavi.

Even if he could manage it, it would not be for more than a couple years and the team changing it's system completely just to accommodate one player for a couple years is a mistake.

Opinions do change.

I think we need more of a rebuild now than I thought a year ago. I don't think we need 9 players though...

Liverpool in advanced talks with Swansea over Wilfried Bony with player's agent thought to be meeting Liverpool officials. #LFC #swansfc

I'm happy that they're trying to replace Suarez with Bony, obviously an inferior player to the former; but at the same time, I'm disappointed because I actually like Bony and now I'm going to have to dislike the guy :(

Did gary really say this?

Could be that Gary is saying that unless LVG builds a completely new team then its not a revolution. He's just achieving success based on a team SAF put together with LVG's 2 or 3 additions improving it. A revolution would suggest scrapping a whole team and coming up with something from scratch however we know that DDG, Rooney, RVP, Mata, Januzaj et al will form the bones of the team so LVG cant take all the credit.

He can surely sit deep as a 6 and pick out passes. He'd be willing to take more risks there too.

We played with Carrick and Scholes as 2 6's in a 2 man midfield and were pretty successful with it.

You's are still singin songs, which is the main thing & the game is growing more & more every year. You's are on the right track.

Some atmosphere difference between MLS & MLB thats for sure...

That's how I understood things given the Alex Shaw tweet as well.

Yes but as I've said before we don't have another that could fulfill the role of Carrick in that duo, Xavi would be the Scholes but our two best midfielders at the moment are more all-round midfielders that are warriors. They are not the type to intercept passes and think two or three steps ahead unfortunately, hence me stating that Xavi is great and all but we just don't have the personnel to accommodate him in the midfield.

For someone to play with Xavi in a midfield two right now they would have to be stellar in terms of reading the game and we just don't have that.

Remy has been linked with Arsenal for ages. I can only see him going there.

That would be 2 great signings for Pool..

It's still not what they need. Rather than signing 12 players they should have signed a couple of defenders and a decent, proven midfielder. They're like that fat Spurs kid in the sweet shop with the Bale pocket money. I can't help by fear for them next year how they're going about the transfer market. It seems so scattergun whilst also largely ignoring their main issue of being weak as nats-piss tea at the back.

I think he meant revelation. Either way, i think gary is a bit pro brit managers. After what moyes did, finishing in the top 3 will be a revolution.

I have no idea what personnel Sounders has and what system you play currently or how successful it is, but i am pretty sure Xavi can still play a number of roles in the MLS if he's arsed.

Just make sit as a 6 with a box to box guy next to him, or make him sit deeper like a Pirlo and give him 2 runners ahead of him. Obviously would have to adapt a bit, but unless you are onto something great there without him i'd imagine all the MLS teams would do that for a Xavi.

A bit of a strange one now considering they've now got Walcott and Sanchez who can both play wide and central.

Remy is a very good striker, better centrally than Walcott who is made of similar glass to Jack Wilshere. He's also a decent alternative to Giroud. They've needed a decent second striker for a couple of years, Bendtner isn't up to the job.

With Arsenal still on a high after announcing Alexis Sanchez, spare a thought for Blackpool. Their entire squad:

It's amazing when a rumour gets posted about us signing someone no one believes it. Then sky italia say di Maria is going psg.... It's bang on

I wonder how much Gary will complain when Van Gaal doesn't play a 4-4-2 and spend all game crossing.

To be fair if the first quote was just as Moyes was announced, then he was speaking when United were champions. They stunk last season, so there's a different tune being sung.
