No we're not. City maybe. But compare our squad and Chelsea's player by player and we're almost level. There's been some hyperbolic exaggeration of the weaknesses in our squad fuelled by Moyes' undending warcry that the team and our club itself was in need of a "fundamental rebuild". Under a competent manager and with Suarez' departure we have the 2nd or 3rd (by a very fine margin) strongest team in the whole league.

De Gea = Cech
Rafael < Azpilicueta (just)
Evans = current Terry
Jones < Cahill
Carrick < Matic based purely on last year's form. Carrick is the better player overall.
Shaw/ Evra > Bertrand
Herrera > Ramires/ Mikel
Kagawa < Fabregas
Mata > Oscar
Rooney = Hazard
Van Persie > Costa/ Torres

Nooo...the full swing to becoming a RAWK style Pool fan has happened, now we're comparing our players to better teams favourably. We'll be saying next year is our year next :lol:

I can only see 2 dodgy accounts reporting this and on SSN when asked about anything else he pied them and said he was only there to talk about Di Stefano

BS I reckon, if not it would likely be pogba

It's obviously Mats Møller Dæhli, here to fix our midfield crisis.

Or Pique. :wenger:

I would think its BS too.

As much as I find this a horrible way to compare and contrast individuals I will indulge. Even discounting Felipe as a player yet to be signed are you really going off the assumption that Bertrand will start instead of Ivanovic? They loaned him out to Villa last season and Azpilicueta played at left back with Ivanovic at right back. You are essentially picking and choosing who you want to come out on top in that comparison list.

That was quite freaky. I was about to write the exact same thing and then thought who is this guy with the same negative waves responding to the post almost word for word what I was to write......and my surname is Glanville ironically

Phelan to fix the lack of explosiveness problem:

It sounds like Phelan's quote, change slightly, and attributed to Sir Alex instead.

Famous sports journalist Brian Glanville would be so proud to share the same surname as ourselves.

Ok then Azpelecueta at LB and Ivanovic at RB. Results are the same only the order shuffles around a bit, maybe moreso in United's favour.

Rafael = Ivanovic (I know loads of people don't rate Rafael but he's one of the best young RBs in the world. Just one season ago he was voted into the team of the season and was arguably the best RB in the league alongwith Zabaleta. Van Gaal manages injuries really well and Rafael will definitely bounce back to his 2012/ 2013 form).

Shaw = Azpilicueta (Again this is not a unanimous view but Shaw was the premier LB in the league in 2013/ 2014. Even though I felt Azpilicueta was a bit better overall but Shaw really come on in the 2nd half of the season).

The point remains that our front 4 is probably the strongest in the league alongwith City's. Rooney, RVP, Mata, Januzaj, Kagawa is a combination most managers would kill for. The CM while not the strongest in the world is much improved with Herrera's arrival. I think Carrick has a couple of good seasons in him, his struggles last season were in large part due to the tactics. We do have some issues in defence admittedly I'll concede that much. But overall the team is in no way "too far behind Chelsea". We've already sealed our most important transfer in Van Gaal and he'll get the best out of the players unlike the previous manager.

Would I like us to strengthen further ? Of course we could do with some added quality. But even if we sign no-one of note henceforth we'll easily be there or thereabouts come the end next season. You only need to look at Liverpool to see what a solidified system can do despite a supposedly weaker defence and the squad overall being behind Chelsea's, City, Tottenham's and United's (surprising since pundits now declare we need atleast 5-6 players to compete) at the start of the season.

We have two other factors working in our favour :

1. Van Gaal's teams historically play better than the sum of individual parts.
2. No European football.

She also says it was BBC.

So he was more than likely on BBC radio 5 live.

Did he say that? Still no idea, investigating......

I highly doubt it. You'd think Five Live would have put it on their twitter feed if he did and if he refused to answer questions about the World Cup, I doubt he'd volunteer such close information on United.

Graham Hunter HAS just said on BBC radio 5 live, he expects Di Maria to join United if he leaves Real Madrid to fund the Rodriguez transfer from Monaco.

Ermm ? But we just signed James a few hours ago.

Silly season has started.
