Looks like Woodard is a massive troll... It looks like he briefs one newspaper on signing a target, next, he briefs other one "we are not interested"

Nah don't think so. It was said more like a joke as it was when they cut back to the studio and everyone started laughing when he said it.Subtle dig at Moyes there I think
Ok Moyes is/was a spanner but I absolutely hate, HATE this nonsensical myth that has been floated around for years, that Ferguson wasn't a good tactical manager. It's probably because he was old school, or not fancy and foreign enough but the idea he wasn't great tactically is absolute bollocks. Very few managers have ever gotten so much out of so little. He was the master at making a team greater than the sum of it's parts. And the notion that he did this solely through the power of fear or motivation, is another ignorant belief. SAF took united to 4 CL finals in 12 years and the quarters or semis every other year except one. You don't do that by 'not being great tactically'. People pigeon holed him as being a mere motivator and fearless when it came to throwing on attacking subs. But the man reinvented his teams so many times, across multiple eras precisely because he was able to move with the times, understand tactical trends and continue to build championship winning teams.
Some people act as though all the tactical nouse came from his succession of assistants. But he went to 3 CL finals with 3 different AM's. Maclaren, Quieroz and Phelan. I suppose he just let them pick the tactics and then got wheeled out before the game as a Scottish Tony Robbins to give a pre match motivational speech..... I know you didn't say all this but just hearing that statement rubs me up the wrong way.
Just because Fergie didn't talk about systems and zones and lots of technical stuff in public, doesn't mean he didn't understand more about tactics than most top managers could ever dream of. The amount of time SAF put out a team that had us all scratching our heads and fearing the worst, only to get an unexpected win is beyond count. He guided us to a third place finish with a cm pairing of O'shea and an off form Giggs. Not bad for a tactically inept manager.....because contrary to uninformed opinion, he didn't just put out a 4-4-2 and be done with it. As he said many times, United hadn't played 4-4-2 for many, many years. His formations and tactics were far more nuanced than many people ever managed to recognize.
/rant.
A very good rant this. Personally, I view Fergie as a better strategist than tactician. What I mean is he knew how to assign players certain roles/responsibilities to exploit opposition more adeptly than concocting a specific tactic to maximise the situation. However, due to his motivational and game-management skills, he found ways to more often than not, get the best out of his players.
A genius at strategy and a pretty good tactician. I'm really disappointed English media don't press managers more on tactical/strategical questions like they do in other countries. There's a level of insight we miss out as fans from these managers because they're never asked such questions
And act like gary neville's training notes are a big exclusive to be front page! Your press is very weird. I can't believe how something as innocuous as training notes make front page headlines. The English press just want sensationalism. A good number would rather a player was caught cheating on his wife or beating up a teammate than discuss tactical issues with a manager.

I notice in Germany and Italy, they like to press managers on tactical/strategic aspects of game which lead to some interesting nuggets of insight every now and then. I presume you live in the UK. Do the UK tabloids just think sensationalism sells best??
right. so the papers just mirroring the culture and the cynicism towards england or is more of a media driven agenda in your opinion? They do - and sadly, it does.
The press here are bizarre. There are some good journalists in certain "high brow" papers but for me even a lot of them seem simply to try to take controversial opinions on things half the time.
England coverage is the worst. We have a history of building players up to knock them down. Rooney was the boy wonder, the great white hope - then they were all over his private life, and now he's gone full circle - "past it, never fulfilled his potential, should be dropped" - and they'll move onto someone else.
England are constantly criticised abc written off - until the World Cup or Euro's come round then the tabloid papers are all on the "lets get behind England" bandwagon because its patriotic and sells copies.
To be fair some of the papers football coverage us decent, but it is limited to the better standard of newspaper.

i see. that's interesting. if there was one thing about the english culture i am not a fan of, it's definitely the media. seem to self-entitled for me as if they arent accountable for anythingI'm not sure to be honest. Most fans are over positive about England I find - especially when these tournaments come about, but the media often seem unduly negative.
I think the "chasing scandal" side of it is just common for newspapers of a certain type - be it about footballers or celebrities and that is reflected in the sports writing at times.
They also often aim at the lowest common denominator. White van man doesn't want to read in depth tactical discussion - he wants to be told we're shite, or we're going to win the World Cup or look at player x's girlfriends tits.

Rafael and park
after leaving out Rooney Gibson and Evans for having the cheek to have a meal 4 days before a game or something.
I was gutted as Rooney was my fantasy footy captain and my massive point of difference over my rivals.
Not to mention the obvious, that it probably cost us the title!
Another absolute non story. Not on our list is the headline, yet not a "top" target in the "article".
And we're meant to believe we're waiting on Strootman and how his recovery goes? So we'll just wait 6months on the off chance he gets to top form, and that Roma don't actually want to benefit themselves from that!
Strootman should be back in light training by August, they'll have a good idea of how his knee is feeling at that point and we could easily sign him then and have him playing by October.
This thread has died down since it was created again with the blacklist.
The British media don't care about England. What they care about is sales. I mean how many other foreign press release exclusives revealing what goes on in their players' private lives. How many other foreign media release harmful information which could potentially ruin a home World Cup bid days before the FIFA committee decide who gets the World Cup. Our press is hilarious.
Not overly impressed.
EDIT: Shit I read that as Vertonghen, which wouldn't be great, but Vermaelen?
Michael Vaughan? He's hit or miss. Said Rene was going to be back at United, Fabregas going to Arsenal.Yeah, Roger the rum said ages ago that he's agreed terms already with us.
Is he out of contract at the moment?
Aye. He also said Schweinsteiger to United will happen. We'll see I guess.Michael Vaughan? He's hit or miss. Said Rene was going to be back at United, Fabregas going to Arsenal.
He's got one year left apparently. Is he out of contract at the moment?
