Signing James Rodriguez was such an obvious buy at the time. Everyone knew he was world class.

I don't think he would have wanted to sign here had we bid for him. He(like Falcao) wanted to play in one of the big 2 from Spain. He took the Falcao route and signed with Monaco. He'll be in Spain eventually. Falcao will be at R Madrid next season and James will play one more season at Monaco before making the switch.

There was a time during the 2012-13 season that I thought James to United was a sure thing.

Rodriguez certainly wasn't world class then and isn't world class now, no clue what gave you the idea that he was or is.

From watching him play.

Anyone who doesn't think he is world class now is clueless.
Easy, it's been 4 games. Think we completely disagree on the definition of world class if you think being amazing at one competition is enough. No doubt he is quality and huge potential, but you have to show top class form for a season at least and be amongst the best in the world, or on that level to be labelled world class. His performances at the World Cup have been but that doesn't make him part of that group, not yet.

Every post I read from you just makes me laugh, it's actually becoming embarrassing some of the stuff you come out with

Edit: Actually, I'll take that back, I'm thinking of the other Cantona. You're welcome to call me a wanker for being a dick, even if you are wrong on this one :p

I watched him week in week out at Porto, while he was good then, he certainly wasn't world class.

Yeah, I agree with the guys saying Rodriguez isn't world class. However, he has had a world class tournament so far, but only doing that season in season out would allow him to be defined as world class.

Blimey £30 million should be no go for De Jong :eek:

I've actually always liked CantonaGiggs, since the newbies, and still do, he's a good poster despite his last few posts.

I'd take De Jong for the right amount.
I know it wont happen, but it would be nice to get rid of some of these squad players we have now, and add better squad players.
If De Jong stopped us signing somebody else though, then yeah, a no go

De Jong would be a good signing for 2-3 seasons especially when signing Strootman seems only a matter of time. Sign De Jong now and with Carrick possibly leaving next summer (it's quite likely doesn't it) getting Strootman after he's returned from his serious injury would be perfect.

Why is everyone so certain we'll buy Strootman in January? Roma don't have to sell and they'll pinch every last penny off us if we do indeed want to take him off their hands.

Roma aren't rich or anything, they have 2 midfielders who are much more important to them already a t the club and are much better players and have an excellent back up/replacement to strootman. Also LvG is really close to strootman apparently. Basically all of it says, they'd let him go for a solid offer, nothing ridiculous but a good offer, around £30m probably. De Rossi is going nowhere and pjanic would cost £10-15m more probably.

I'd sign De Jong for 8, 9 or 10 million! But no more!

Maybe it's just me but, has anyone else noticed the lack of balls and fight in our team in the last number of years? De Jong would bring that!

Perfect example was Nani getting done by Jamie "Aaaaaaaaaaalri maaaate la" Carragher, and Liverpool players standing over Nani taunting him, as our players backed away.....I miss the days when the likes of Keane, Butt, Stam, Bruce, Eric, Robbo etc would go apeshit at stuff like that

Yeah, another good example this season was the Meyler stamp on Januzaj (and the Riether one come to think of it). Nobody backed him up.

I still don't want De Jong though, good enforcer but he's rubbish at football unfortunately.

Yep someone was definitely too excited..

30m!

£30m?! Milan bought him for £3.5m and now he is worth £30m? Piss off.

I hope Woodward is working on bringing Luiz Gustavo to Old Trafford. Him and Herrera would do wonders. The best option is of course Vidal, but I don't think Juve are willing to sell.

Yeah, my memory failed. It's just the Hull one then, but tbf maybe they didn't see it. We do need a hard cnut though.

James Rodriquez definitely is world class as of now, that's the whole point of tournaments such as the world cup, to showcase worldwide footballing talent. While he wasn't world class at Porto, he has taken the world cup by storm, 5 goals and 4 assists makes him the tournaments best player(IMO) right now.

I don't really like seeing this guy waste himself in the french league, but at least he will be in the CL next season.

He's also a good example of why our transfer policy has to change(If it hasn't all ready). Monaco got what they paid for when they bough him, for £35million I believe, same with Chelsea when they bought Hazard. All this while we bought players like Young. Hopefully our recent purchase of Luke Shaw means we will also cough up for future talents on the market like him.

Van Gaal loves the guy, he will 99.999% be United player I think.

We don't. Keep the barbarism and archaic aspects out of the game please.

You can't buy everyone and when it's a top talent like Rodriquez your going to lose sometimes.

Anyone that throws the term world class around like you do is clueless.

Had you said "potential to be world class" then we can talk about it.

I have always felt that he was certain to be world class. I think he is achieving that in this world cup. I may be exaggerating because I have always rated him.

I watched him in the U-20 world cup and knew he was going to be special. He was the player I felt United needed to sign during SAF's last season.

I don't know why you say that I throw around the term world class. What other player have I called world class that you did not agree?

With one of the Januzaj stamps, didn't Giggs come on not long afterwards and throw in a particularly nasty challenge? I seem to remember something like that.

I agree we're missing dirty bastards.......a guy like Vidal would be perfect for that and i've heard he's quite good on the ball too

Yeah, Giggs was on like, 5 minutes and smashed the guy that tackled Januzaj.

Couple of us were saying at the time how similar it was to Robson doing the same for a young Giggs.

I rate De Jong, he's good at what he does: good tackler/is aggressive, not a great passer but can do the job, is one of the few "hard men" left in football...

But at 30m? No thank you.

It was a typo. No one in their right mind would pay £30m for De Jong.
